Riven help

Hey guys,

So me and my girlfriend do this thing every month or so where we mystery gift each other a skin and then main that champion for a month and then see who adapted to the champion better after a few weeks of playing them.

It just so happens that the skin I got was Arcade Riven, and while I own Riven and have played her a few times and have intended to get better at her I've never really gotten around to it. So I was wondering if there were any tips I could get to improve my Riven play (like match ups and how to properly do that magic trick called animation cancelling) from any Riven players out there.

I've tried reading a guide and watching videos on animation cancelling but none of the ones I watched were very helpful and more confusing than anything.

Well, just google the basics of animation cancelling.

BoxBox is an amazing riven player and streams often.

Here is a pretty indepth guide that he did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azfhS76_6fE

The main idea of animation cancelling is activating certains skills in her kit that can "remove" or utilize the delay of each of her skills.

A simple one if you noticed is the delay after she uses "Valor" ( The Shield Dash ). She's kinda stuck there for a half second. A basic animation cancel for this would be using, "Valor" then "Broken Wings" in succession. If done appropriately, the animation for the "Broken Wings" takes over during the lag period of her Valor. Effectively increasing the amount of actions per second which is extremely important.

quick crash course.

generally rush brutalizer into lucidity boots. with masteries and runes this should put you at max cdr, which is your only resource to manage.

2 most common skill orders are r>q>e>w and r>e>w>q

the first is more bursty and damage, the second is better for harder matches due to higher early shields and shorter cooldowns. leveling w or e drops cooldowns. where as q gets no time reduction.

pop ult before you engage. as its a good buff. you lose alot of damage if you pop it after you engage.

everyone will be a hard match up until you get more familiar with her. jungling with her isn't a bad option, more stationary targets to practice the combos on while you clear.

Mute everyone every match. I guarantee this will save you an infinite amount of shit that will be thrown at you by teamates and enemies. It doesn't matter if you do well or poorly, everyone will hate you and you will on average every game have at least one person who won't stop running their mouth.
