Riot finally addresses 4v5 games with the new minion mechanic

By telling the team with an afk "rekt idiots lol" and making almost impossible to win because of being overall behind in levels. I guess this'll make it so that no one votes "no" at the 20 mark!

Another thing is bot matches are ridiculously faster since your minions are pushing harder >_>

Louis Cyphre2 votes

They aren't yet. Those changes were pushed back to 5.23.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

Well then good god, Riot needs to not add it to at least co-op vs AI matches. after this patch matches seem to end a lot faster so I assumed it was the minion buff. They add that to the AI mode on top of that and matches will end in 10 minutes flat with no one able to do what they came for (testing items/masteries/runes,learning new champ, etc.)

There was a step forward???

TurquoiseYoshi6 votes

The step forward was the champion select changes. Even though it isn't balance-related, it makes the game 10x more balanced.

planters2 votes

the two steps back was the part where they removed the efficiency of solo climbing

Anidan1 votes

The one step forward was the meta just after Cinderhulk received its first justified nerf. The two steps back was bringing us backward toward the Juggernaut meta (the juggernauts were so game-warping that the 4 of them got a whole meta named after them alone) and now this step.

One step forward, two steps backward.

I wonder though, does this mean that the losing team may actually be able to gain the upper hand by split pushing and out-objective-ing the enemy team? Also, when it is a 4v5, the team with an AfK invariably ends up ahead in exp unless they feed like morons, so they could actually get even more of an advantage in minion power.

The strength of a team with an AFK is that they scale slightly faster, at the cost of being down a member and ultimately being outscaled late game. The new minion mechanics actually heavily favor a team with a minor edge like that to be able to passively overtake the enemy team, and potentially snowball hard enough to win before they get outscaled.

The active players have an exp advantage. The team as a whole will be underleveled due to their level 1 Ashe in the fountain or whatever. Because of this, the team with an afk is punished and has to fight enhanced minions.

DarkRitual1 votes

Yup, the only way to fix that would be to not include people who never connected to begin with. But then that just auto gives it to the other team, who can out-pressure lanes already, unless you can hold them off untill they all reach lvl 18 as well.

Louis Cyphre1 votes

It considers average level, though. So not including a disconnected player means that the 4-man team (in which all four members are getting EXP and gold) would be, on average, higher level than the five-man.

Only Play Darius14 votes

Lol i made the same exact post as that guy on another thread and completely forgot about the lvl 1 dragging down the average team level. Oops.

Anyways I think i'm done with League for S6, at least until they get their shit rebalanced halfway through the season. Seeing ADC's get major buffs despite being the most important class already dynamic queue punishing solo players for not having any friends, and seeing repeated nerfs to my favorite champion Nasus with nerfs to Teleport and splitpushing, removal of Elixir of Ruin, Rift Herald and minion changes punishing weak early game champions, and Riot promoting early team fights even more, I don't even feel like playing anymore. Fallout 4 released just in time.

Penta Penguin4 votes

dynamic queue is one of the greatest things to happen to a game which is supposed to be about competitive team-work.

Only Play Darius5 votes

Makes it harder to climb if you're solo, in a game that is already becoming increasingly roam and teamfight reliant and as such gives a massive advantage to premade teams, with a system that doesn't grade you on personal performance. Maybe if you were given LP based on personal level of play then dynamic queue would be excusable but that isn't going to happen.

But you thinking "dynamic queue is one of the greatest things to happen to ranked" means I'm probably wasting my time trying to talk logic with you.

Whiteeye Avelyn1 votes

Wait i thought they said team would be matched with teams and solo was matched with solo? is this not the case?

Biffolo1 votes

Only 95% of the time. Sounds good at first, until you realize how many games that actually means can get fucked over by this.

chiotti3 votes

But there's already team ranked...

Penta Penguin1 votes

You have to create a static roster, and thne you need 5, not 4 or 3

With a bunch of people who aren't always on at the same time, this is better.

downvote 4 life

chiotti1 votes

Okay, okay. I understand that. It's just that I hear so many complaints about somebody being boosted that's all. Also I have only about 2 friends that I enjoy playing with and I feel like I'll be at the disadvantage for this next ranked season. However I will remain a bit hopefull and trust that since I will mostly solo queue, riot will make it so I will play against mostly other solo players, or if I am against a team of 5, I hope they will be well below my rank. It seems fair if the matchmaking works well.

ADC one isn't too bad, should really get balanced out soon. I think Graves is a little overtuned, and there will be a couple of ADC's (im betting on jinx) that will synergize too wiell with the new items, but otherwise that is a good change. Rift Herald is to make up for the TP nerfs, that's supposed to be the compensation for your Nasus, especially since he JUST got buffed from the juggernaut items. Herald might need some coordination from your jungler or mid laner, but the buff really helps out.

I completely agree with the minion wave stuff though. All of their changes to wards and income make for faster paced games; changing minions to prevent lane freezing was entirely unnecessary and frankly a little stupid. Why would they remove such a huge macro aspect of the game? It is not worth reducing the skill cap just to reduce the skill floor. It will make professional play completely unwatchable. Most macro based teams will fall completely out of favor, which I particularly hate as a Cloud9 fan.

Only Play Darius2 votes

Herald is bad for Nasus. He's way too weak early to contest it. Even if his jungler helps him take it he honestly doesn't want to push down the lane early because that makes it harder for him to stack his Q. Herald is going to bring midlaners and junglers toplane earlier than ever and Nasus hates that because it makes it hard for him to stack in peace. And now that TP isn't required anymore people are going to be taking ignite and killing him under his turret

iamleburk1 votes

Herald seems really easy to take as long as you have a second person and neither of you are ranged. But otherwise yea I see your point, its gonna be tough now that you cant really just afk farm. I would still argue the recent juggernaut items help him well enough, but yea i guess he is weaker now. Maybe if the wave mechanics weren't so bad (or if they actually continued to exist) it wouldn't be so bad.

Only Play Darius2 votes

Only juggernaut item that he likes is DMP. Hydra works against him, black cleaver is inefficient on him, and streaks only works on him if he wins early and even then it leaves him too squishy and he doesn't have enough AD scalings to really abuse it.

planters1 votes

sterak's actually only improves base AD so no champion with good scalings actually takes advantage of it. think of it like a more frequently active sheen proc.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

Actually it's an item to combo with AD sheen users, because it buffs base damage which in turn, sheen procs scale off.

However, as it was already calculated by some other guy in the forums here, the numbers seem nice but the damage given is conditional and inefficient compared to straight out buying another AD item instead.

I have a feeling the whole new "first towers down at 8 minutes, game over by 30 minutes" vibe will kill Nasus. His power starts when the games are now ending. First towers have been going down between 8 and 9 minutes, he doesn't have time to farm before team fights at 10 minutes. Sion is with him. And, my favorite mid, Cassiopeia, doesn't hit her 500 stacks until ~30 minutes, making her extremely hard to reach that power spike and be useful. Laning ends earlier, so she won't build stacks as fast poking in lane like normal. Same as Nasus and Sion.

Thank god Fallout 4 released so I don't have to play this giant ball of unbalance.

This minion thing it awful all around. It promotes snowballing and riot said snowballs were only supposed to be in ARAM!

Arakadia1 votes

Wait so if you have an AFK your minions become stronger orrr? I dont understand lol.

Clockwork Mouse1 votes

If you have an AFK the nemy minons get stronger. It is all in the patch notes.

Louis Cyphre1 votes

That hasn't happened yet. It's scheduled for 5.23. It is all in the patch notes.

Clockwork Mouse1 votes

Yeah, I happen to have read the patch notes the day they came out. They still have the info on what they want to change in there, so my point is stall valid.

Ook thx! That clears it up.

Except you get more exp per player if you have less players on your team. Just saying. Generally you have level advantage until level 18 if you are 4v5.

Only in one lane, and that is provided you don't get totally zoned out of creeps so that you don't even get experience from them. Let's say your adc is level 7, whereas their bot lane duo are lvl 5 (which is quite optimistic anyway). This surely won't compensate for your level 1 afk player.

Niaphim4 votes

True, forgot that the level 1 (or whatever it is) afk player still counts. My bad...

hey idiot, did you even read patch notes ?

UPDATE: We froze the pushing changes below at the last minute, so these won't be going live in 5.22. They'll make their official debut in 5.23!

Auroramancer1 votes

It's not like the enemy minions would be harder to kill. The enemy minions being stronger means that they push into you faster, you get to farm safer by being under tower, and enemy laners can't push as safely with the wave always being biased toward your side.

Obviously this doesn't make it any easier for a 4v5, but this minion issue was made for teams that are behind in general. This minion issue shouldn't even be brought up when talking about 4v5s.

Rolldembones1 votes

Downvoted because I won a 4v5 a couple of games ago exactly how Junglerboy16 (who has 10 downvotes) theorized.

How about we all actually play the new patch for a bit before we comment on it.

The new minion mechanic isn't active this patch. It was postponed to next patch because of a bug. As almost every comment on this post says.

THE D1C1 votes

My solution to the problem is this,

Just Average the highest 3 players on the team, I feel like this season was to try to remove some toxicity. By averaging all 5 players on the team you:

  1. Punish the entire team no matter how awesomely ahead they are even 4v5.

  2. If someone gets behind in lane, not only will they get raged on for "feeding" because bad games happen... but now it's they are under leveled causing not only the disadvantage being 0/3 but now you are dragging down the level of your minions too. Give it a matter of time and people will start raging at people for being level 5 to their opponents level 7... even if they don't feed but back a few times to be cautious... It isn't a good feeling to have to stay in lane with 200HP and try to farm under turret just to not be at a minion level disadvantage.

Average top 3

Top: 11 Mid: 11 ADC: 11 = 11

T/M/JG/ADC 11 Supp: 1 (AFK) = 9

Their team 10... you're behind even when ahead...
