"Let's restrict toxic people from playing ranked and make them do normals for a bit"

Galewings··182 votes·6,825 views

Yeah! Let's ban them from playing ranked for being toxic and force them to play games with the people who avoid ranked games because of the very high amounts of toxicity found there!

Fucking brilliant logic.

I agree, give them ranked AND Normal bans. Force them to do 35 bots games :^) True punishment.

NOO What about us bot game players, sure i dont play bot games 24/7 but when i just wanna play a specific champ and find nice people a little chatty. Its literately the sandbox like mode that we want except it doesn't last forever and we cant control it lol.

Pls this is my haven aside from 3's and dominion <-- Remember those game modes?

Saianna10 votes

Then how about 35 custom games?

Or even better

35 days of ban :D

LICENSED HOOKER3 votes

No, they just have to fix it tbh make them play aram >.> <3 u aram mains

Also if we banned ppl that often. Ranked would be a ghost town lel

I'm ok with this. (>_>)

If the choice is between "play with just plain outright shit human beings who should be banned from interaction with other people period" and "wait 3 minutes longer for each ranked game", the choice should be pretty obvious lol

It really doesn't matter if you have a troll on a bot game...you can still try whatever champion you went to try and is highly unlikely that you will lose a bot game since pretty much a single player can carry the game without much effort. And if they are being saalty just mute them.

OR just implement a prisoner's island queue where toxic players are only allowed to play.

EDIT: I know draft normals is the current prisoner's island, but that was a very bad decision. Riot should create an actual queue ONLY for these people.

FoggyPaws2 votes

Yeah, Shadowbanned and placed into queues for toxic players for a certain amount of time.

That sounds like hell.

SparkleBrowniez1 votes

LMAO, this suggestion is actually funny as heck

Partholonian3 votes

Better yet, give players a permanent toxicity rating along with their skill rating, that adjusts as they play. Match on both. I wouldn't mind at all having a slightly wider range of skills if I had a range of toxicities narrower than "everyone".

Vekkna37 votes

There should be an "exile" queue for restricted players where they can play with others exactly like them. Maybe they'll enjoy it more. Maybe they'll make friends. Maybe they'll get a taste of their own medicine along with long queue times. I don't really care how they feel about it, but the rest of us will certainly have a more enjoyable time.

disregardable9 votes

That's called a "Prisoner's Island". Riot addressed them in their Dev Blog, Player Behavior Design Values: Punishment.

The tl;dr is that it's lazy design that would only make them lose business, and they have no plan to implement one.

Vistha Kai10 votes

In theory.

In practice they are making normals a Prisoner's Island, because of ranked restrictions.

AbodyHUN6662 votes

I'd actually like to see toxicity rates from all qeues to see if normal draft is really that much toxic though.

Marinaras Trench2 votes

According to Lyte 1% of normal draft is restricted people. But when anybody is toxic there people assume that they were forced to be there

"Prisoner’s Island, matchmaking negative players together, is a tempting, obvious solution to combating poor player behavior, but it’s ultimately just lazy design that only encourages further negativity. As players are exposed to more negative behavior, they just become more likely to quit playing any particular game--up to 320% more likely, in fact. That old saying about everything looking like a nail when all you have is a hammer applies here; low priority queues can work well in one very specific situation, but that doesn’t mean you can extend it to every player behavior problem. " -Lyte

"But what about ranked restrictions? We’ve seen some players concerned that by removing negatively-behaved players from the ranked queue into normal draft, we’re creating a Prisoner’s Island and just calling it something else." -Lyte

How about just ban them from playing League at all? Sounds like the best solution to me.

That gets evaded by smurfs.

In my experiences, norms are way more toxic than ranked.

Traxinator2 votes

Why, you might ask?

Well this is because the toxic people from ranked are getting put in normals, just like the OP stated.

air tiger5 votes

Make them play with each other, against non-toxics, and watch that toxic elo PLUMMET

Orangesilk4 votes

But, what if there aren't enough toxic players for a given queue.

"Okay, we have four toxic players, and Jimmy, rough luck Jimmy, may the odds be ever in your favor"

Matthias91194 votes

The idea is:

  1. You can't evade it by switching to a smurf like you can with a time ban.

  2. You can't grind it out with 20-minute bot games where you don't have to change your behavior, or use a client-side bot to run around for you while your teammates win the game.

  3. The tiny fraction of Ranked players who are restricted at any given time is spread across all the Normal Draft games.

  4. You have to win Normal Draft matches without getting reported too much to get back into Ranked. And they're chat-restricted while doing it.

"Prisoner's Island" causes its own problems. It's certainly not a cure-all, and depending on implementation it can make things worse over time. DOTA2 goes with this approach and there are still tons of complaints about player behavior in that game.

Shinjusuke2 votes

These are actually things I hadn't considered. Well put. +1

Catastrop3 votes

There should have like a "banned" queue. Where only banned players play. That would be fun to spectate.

UrPalAl2 votes

Fine then, make the play against bots, oh you don't like that? Well find a better solution.

Vistha Kai10 votes

How about fixing all things that lead to toxicity? You know like lags, lack of compensation for AFKs, unstability, DCs, having to relog after DCs, bugsplats, lack of punishment for anything not chat or DDoS related, etc, etc.

Tomatosx5 votes

lol butthurt trolls downvoted ur comment to oblivion

Vistha Kai2 votes

You'd think I was to get dozens of upvotes for telling you should loss less LP when having AFKs and feeding being bannable, right?

Tomatosx4 votes

right? its not fair to the players to be forced to play with summer trolls for 20+ minutes then lose 20 lp, then get a chat ban for even saying can you play safe

Lag: They're in the process of setting up new servers.

Lack of compensation for AFK's: Does need work, Riot wants to fix this, but they're trying to figure out a non-abusable system.

Unstability: They are in the process of ditching the Adobe Air based client, which would in turn result in more stability.

Having to relog after DC: Ditto

Bugsplats: Ditto

Lack of Punishment: In the works, plus believe it or not, Riot's system has actually been quite a success.

Shinjusuke2 votes

Because one thing is a realistic goal, the other is the average player outright not having a goddamn clue how things they whine about work (network stability for example) and yet somehow feeling entitled about those same issues.

Ban them.

They can't do that because people will complain about how the had an emergence and had to leave, which is half the time true. That's just life, sorry. So that's not a solution either.

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

This is a thread about dealing with toxic people. Nowhere does it say anything about AFKs and leavers.

My bad, I was talking to someone else about a solution towards AFK's and leavers, and I responded to you instead. But banning them is still not a good idea, it's a little harsh, especially since you would be banning quite a few people in the process. Though maybe temporary bans could work, I believe that's what you meant. Having a 1 day ban for first time offense, and eventually scaling into a fool week. I don't know.

HellsLegacy2 votes

I think the punishment for toxic players should be a ranked and chat restriction. They shouldn't be forced to play with bots and if they have a chat restriction they won't be toxic anymore. It'll teach them not to be toxic unless they don't want to talk and play.

WOWyMe2 votes

I think reopening the tribunal might be a good approach......maybe It might stop more toxic players

Tansen2 votes

Honestly give me 4 supposedly toxic players over 4 idiots any day. He'll I've been reported as toxic after 10 wins in a row with not a single remotely toxic comment made in those games. I've also raged for 10 games straight due to the sheer utter stupidity of team mates.

Give me an option to remove chat all together and I promise I will never be toxic again. Why is this not an option? I can ignore my entire team so why can't I turn off chat?

Make it an option that when selected auto blocks refusing to comm reports.

BTW I've been in multiple games where people have said report so and so for toxic he's their best player we'll get him banned. Great system Riot, completely fair huh.

IonChamber2 votes

You have to bear in mind that RIOT really doesn't want to lose customers. Some of these suggestions will force people right out the door.

You can say what you want, but if someone has a really bad day and is usually good, and then you force them into 30 bot games or prisoners island, they're likely to lose a solid amount of customers.

It just doesn't make business sense. And then if you lose a bunch of players, who are you going to play with? Some of the verbally toxic players that get mad are actually really solid players.

Maleke2 votes

I would like to add an alternative idea that might go along with this.

Sort of like ARAM rerolls lets add a mechanic like a vote to kick, or perhaps a dodge button.

With Vote to Kick if 3 out of the 5 players in the ranked queue want to kick then they get kicked out of select for 3 minutes.

Similarly give a dodge button with 2 charges per day. If select is looking terrible just click it to dodge.

In my experience you can tell who is trolling from the select screen alone.

Reynard the ƒox1 votes

Not to mention that in Normals, there's no LP on the line, which means there is 0 consequence for losing.

It just entices trolling even more.

Matthias91192 votes

You know they have to win matches to be able to play Ranked again, right?

Cloud Potato1 votes

If they continue to be toxic in normals they will get a regular ban. The reason for having the midway point is that some people will care more about being forced to play normals more than just not being able to play at all (and go on a smurf or something). Having a variety of punishments means more people will get a punishment that makes them rethink their toxic ways.

Well apparently I have gotten over 10 automated restrictions since the system came out for being spam reported constantly, never got action by Riot themselves so still flaws in the automated system.
