Knowing your limits and win conditions
Part 1
I seem to run into an obscenely large amount of people who for some reason, try very desperately to not just win lane phase, but get 12 kills during it too. Dont get me wrong, if you can do that on any champion its great, but if you are playing something like
you really are making things difficult, or at least risky. Veigar is going to be huge late game anyway, so why do you NEED to use every q on that
(who has built in MR and magic shield) when come late game, you land your stun he is gone, instantly. It just makes your job more difficult, you are sacrificing smaller chunks of AP+ in the HOPE that you MAY get a kill so you have 300g extra to get
faster. Regardless, even if you do succeed, you'll probably attract attention from the likes of the enemy jungler (and maybe even support), making a revenge kill in the next 5 minutes pretty likely, which loses you out on minions and xp, possibly putting you further behind than you would have been without that kill. If you want to kill that jumpy mofo early, play something like
.
TL;DR Jeopardising your win conditions for the sake of a kill (a risky one at that), only makes things harder for you (most of the time).
Part 2
Early game counters.
vs
. What reason do you have to kill caitlyn in lane. To get ahead? You do that anyway by waiting 25 minutes. What does trying to kill caitlyn accomplish? Puts you into fighting range of caitlyn, making her job of killing you easier. If you outscale and/or beat your lane opponent later on, think if it's actually necessary to kill them in lane, most of the time you are probably going to get killed yourself. Vayne isnt as well equipped as caitlyn to get early lane kills.
TL;DR Learn your limits, you dont have to be super saiyan 3 by the time they hit level 6
Part 3
Late game win conditions
(blue) vs
(purple)
Sorry can you say that in my good ear, i thought you just said Lets teamfight.....
Unless something pretty stupid happened on most lanes early, blue team is going to win a fight. You need more? DONT FIGHT THEM 5v5!
Set up a split push, as soon as udyr and trynd push bot and top, blue team has to make 2 decisions, which lane to go to first, and who to send. The first choice doesnt matter much, but the 2nd choice is huge. If they send kat and gnar away, they are left with 2 tanks and an adc, if lucian blitz and TF didnt cluster, theres no way a 3v3 fight in mid would come out with jinx still fighting, shed either have had to leave the fight and let sejuani or leona die, or get killed herself. Suddenly its now 4v5 and (assuming no one on purple died), and theres at best leona or sejuani and jinx to defend mid, once blitz hook lands leonas either dead or jinx gets jumped on. Trynd Udyr still split pushing. At worst maybe tf died in the first fight in mid, but either way, somewhere on the map a tower will die.
Now the same scenario but kat jinx and leona stay mid, and sejuani and gnar go to try and stop tryn-dyr. Between the gold card, knockup, and silence, there's next to no way kat should get a decent ult off (leona would have to land a double ult stun on blitz+tf), without any kills shes useless for about 8 seconds, she'll probably die very fast, if jinx leaves, leona will be dead too, if she stays she'll probably die second, and leona might get away (or die as well trying to save jinx).
No matter which way you arrange this, with 1/2 decent positioning, there's no way for the other team to successfully defend against all 3 pushes, somewhere a tower will go down, and by repeating this, you can use it to even reach inhibitors or set up things like baron (have trynd set up a minion wave bot and kill whoever comes to clear it [probably kat or jinx-why does leona need the cs]), or wait to get an easy pick (kill jinx grabbing that red buff) and then give the enemy team an ultimatum, either send (probably 2 people) to stop trynd and his monster creep wave from winning the game, or defend baron. They cant do both, worst case scenario you get an inhib and no baron, best case you get inhib and baron. no matter what happens it is a win for your team.
TL;DR there's more than one way to win a game, you don't have to 5v5 clean ace to win
NOTE: This is set up at the completely opposite ends of the spectrum on purpose for the sake of making my point easier to make.
