Checklist ✓ : What to do when you Ace the enemy team
One of the hugest issues in low level play stems from people not knowing what to do when they win a teamfight. Just yesterday, I was playing a game where we aced the enemy team, had supers pushing mid, and 50 second respawn timers on the enemy team. Unfortunately I died in the teamfight, and the rest of our team decided it would be a good time to do BARON instead of simply walking up mid lane and winning the game outright. That game took us 15 more minutes to win despite our huge advantage because we were unable to kill their waveclear in subsequent fights and we were never healthy enough to dive.
So following is a checklist to help you make the crucial decision of whether you should do a neutral objective, steal the enemy jungle, take towers, or push to win the game.
Checklist - The following information is readily available to you on your UI. It should take you about 2-5 seconds to acquire and process this information, allowing you to make an educated decision on your next move.
- Number of surviving enemies (and which) ✓
- Enemy Spawn Timers ✓
- Minion wave positioning ✓
- Availability/Timers on neutral objectives ✓
- HP bars of myself and teammates ✓
- Mana bars of myself and teammates ✓
- Availability of waveclear (relates to mana!) ✓
- Availability of ultimates ✓
STEP 1/2 Check the enemy respawn timers and how many are alive. I can't stress this enough. When you kill the enemy team, the first thing you need to do is press tab and see how much time you have. If it's late in the game you have to assume that they own, or will buy homeguards and make it to their ~inhibitor tower almost instantly after spawning. They will have full HP and mana, and they will probably outnumber you if you lost any teammates in the fight.
STEP 2/3 Ask yourself: "What can I get out of this?" You know now from step one how much time you have and how likely your opponent is to contest your next move. Next you glance at the minimap and look where the minion waves are. If there isn't a single wave past the river, you aren't getting a tower unless there's 30+ seconds left on their timers. Rather than try, take a neutral objective and get some key wards down for your next teamfight. But if waves are in position, remember that towers > dragon/jungle camps. Don't be that ADC who runs off to steal the enemy red buff after acing a team. Your damage and waveclear could have helped your team push for 2 towers instead of 1.
concluding thoughts There is no right or wrong answer. I could spell out every single situation I thought of for the next hour and I still wouldn't cover them all. What's important is that you use the information at your fingertips and make an educated decision rather than make an uninformed decision. All too often I see people push too hard and too long for towers and die to the homeguard enemies when they respawn. All too often I see people opt to take objectives such as baron/dragon/red buff instead of crucial structures like inhibitor towers and inhibitors. You have the information right in front of you. Use it!
