Dear Esteemed Jungler

Drunk Rummate··89 votes·5,549 views

I love you. In a platonic way of course. When you come mid lane to gank my enemy laner and blow their flash, that's something I don't forget. If you want to tax me every time you gank, go right on ahead. I appreciate your presence in this game. Your mere attempts at ganks put pressure on my opponent, force them to buy wards, and allow me to lane much more aggressively. So thank you.

I also have some advice for you, if you would be willing to listen.

  1. I know that blue buff improves your clear speeds. Depending on the champion you're playing Fiddlesticks Nidalee Diana , I may not even request the second one, but here's what you need to understand about blue buff on me and how it impacts my game. Without mana gating, I'm allowed to spam my abilities on the wave to shove my opponent into turret. This allows me to throw abilities like my charm Ahri at my opponent on cooldown, significantly increasing my kill pressure in lane. Furthermore, shoving in lane without a mana cost gives me ample opportunity to roam. If I don't think I can kill my lane opponent, it's highly likely I'll take this opportunity to roam to a side lane or invade the enemy jungle with you while my wave is pushed. This makes your job a LOT easier and a LOT safer, and should be considered a massive benefit to you!

  2. When I recall or leave my lane to gank and you go there to pick up the experience and farm I appreciate it. I really am glad that you're covering my tower in my absence, because that tower makes farming a lot easier for me and I would hate to give up the global gold and map pressure that it offers. However please understand how wave control functions, and leave the minion wave in an acceptable place for me when I return to farm. Especially early on, if you halfheartedly shove the wave and my opponent freezes it I could potentially lose out on a LOT of cs as a result. So either last hit carefully and keep the wave on my side, or make sure you 100% push the wave into their tower. PS: I recommend last hitting carefully almost 100% of the time, because there's no telling when an enemy jungler (or my lane opponent) may show up to get the farm that you're pushing into them, forcing you to leave and resulting in a poor shove and freeze.

  3. When you gank my lane and get that big cooldown (heal, barrier, flash, ultimate) don't be afraid to come back. Maybe we whiffed the first time, but that cooldown will be down for awhile and if you have red buff especially then you bring a ton of kill pressure to my flash-less opponent. Getting flash will certainly help me lane and force them to play safer, but don't you want the 100-300 gold for that kill you've already set up? I certainly do.

  4. This last one is for you farming junglers. I understand that your power curve starts at level 6 or later. I know how important it is that you're efficient in your farming to get that power spike as quickly as possible. I accept that you aren't actively ganking lanes, and I'm probably playing very safe as a result. However, if I corner my lane opponent and you're in the vicinity, please come help me. If I've got an almost guaranteed kill, it's likely I just need another warm body to zone my opponent out. You may even get lucky and get the kill gold! If you see I'm getting ganked, or especially if they're diving me under tower - please come save me!! In return, I promise I'll come help when I see my opponent invade your jungle. Pinky swear.

Thanks esteemed jungler, and remember - I love you (platonically).

Platonically? I thought we had something special.

I think we should see other people. ...I'm taking custody of the buff.

At least leave the small ones for him then.

Not sure why you'd do that, he doesn't love you like you love him. Why feel like you owe him anything? XD

LOL I thought you'd say you're ganking other lanes, but still made me laugh

As a jungle main, +1. Thank you for getting it.

If I'm a farming, you're not getting buffs until I'm 6. Once I'm 6, jungle's basically open.

If I'm a tank jungler with a slower clear, I might still be level 4 when blue respawns (because I'm Silver and stuff). I want you to have the 2nd blue, but I still might need it.

This.

If I'm spotted by a ward, sweep it, then run away. I might come back, I might not. Depends on what I'm seeing on the map and stuff. But I probably won't hang around where the ward was. Kinda telegraphed.

Why I wouldn't give you blue: dying too much. I know giving you blue very well make or break the lane. But I don't wanna risk giving my blue to the enemy. But OP, I know you get this.

Otherwise, you get it. Thank you for understanding what us junglers go through.

Every game I work on improving somewhere. Now it will be consistently being 6 when my 2nd blue is up. Or at least, figuring out why I haven't been

TonyTonyMordecai1 votes

I never gave the jungler hell anyway, but it's difficult to be at the same level that everyone needs to be when: A: Enemy laner is fed/full health B: EVERYONE is pushed to their towers (allies are stuck guarding) C: Other jungler is ahead because he kept grabbing kills off of everyone *Sigh... Laning is hard enough when the enemy jungler can appear when you DON'T want him to help kill you, but whatever. Plus, I hate it when I'm jungling and I'm getting the hate mail when I don't come to help a lane that is pushed and the enemy is fed AND the said enemy is a tank that can easily kill both of our squishy champion's behinds... So yeah. Keep practicing!

djjomon1 votes

After getting some shit here for being level 4 at 2nd blue spawn, I started paying closer attention my exp. I haven't played too much in the past few days, but in my 3 games yesterday, I was consistently level 5 on the first blue spawn. So that's something.

Now to work on getting 6 by then. Though in at least one of those games, the top was taking Krugs, and mid was taking Raptors. I didn't complain though lol, they took jungle when their lanes were in control.

But yeah, you understand it.

TonyTonyMordecai2 votes

Yeah, exactly.

I'm trying to Improve my Lee Sin... But I'm fairly bad with him in the jungle, so I want to go to lane with him... But someone else gets top (ugh).

Whatever, I'll continue to practice jungling with Lee, but I always feel like I get too close to dying. I respect people who are good if not above average with Lee Sin, because it is pretty difficult to actually become better with him. He is super fun to play as, however.

The few times I've done fairly well in the jungle, is when I went Teemo Jungle, Blitzcrank Jungle, Vi Jungle, and Master Yi Jungle. Vi went surprisingly well, even though I haven't played as her in forever, and then Teemo/Blitzcrank Jungle went REALLY well, Teemo Jungle is the one thing I want to eventually bring into Ranked, but that'll be another story...

We do well with some jungle picks, we do poorly with others... It more so just depends on the day, to be honest. Good luck!

For anyone who doesn't want to read, here's a very simplified version of the OP.

1: Blue please, it helps 2: Don't come to my lane when I'm gone and screw up the minions. Push it all the way, or just last hit. 3: If you burn the enemies flash, if they are still pushing, come back and get the kill. 4: Please improve your map awareness.

The OP tried to sound nice, but to me personally, it came off patronizing.

you definitely sound like you're trying to sound too nice I can grab a niice red marker and just cross out all this useless fat and you would have a completely normal post

it's abit excessive.. the only other time we would see something like that is in stereotype memes.. which is meant to be ironic

and also, no one who's disagreeing with you would understand the meaning of some wiki page, get on to actually elaborating if you're serious of trying to get a point across

The niceness was my attempt to convey that I know the struggles that junglers go through. I don't believe it was excessive or unimportant at all. I know junglers are constantly behind in levels, almost to match that of the duo lane. I know they often get pulled in several different directions by players asking for ganks. I'm trying to give my perspective so that junglers can understand my requests as a mid laner and how helping me also helps them. EX: I don't want blue buff so that CSing is 'easier,' I want it to increase my kill pressure and roaming. I don't want them to stop shoving my wave because I'm angry about missing 6 CS, I just want them to be careful about the minion wave control while they do it.

I completely understood that OP was trying to polite, and not patronizing

I dont care, as long as YOU ASK FOR THE BUFF** FIRST**!!!!!!!! If you just start attacking it, and ask me while ur fighting i or dont ask at all, I'm going to stand their watch u do all the work, and smite it right as you would last hit. So you know how it feels.

I will give ANY buff to ANY ally thats** ASKs **. If you dont ask, you dont get it. End of story.

Reason: If i NEED that buff, and u take it, then i'm behind and cant help the other 3 players on our team.

Technically, anyone who plays league is the kind of garbage who kills for money. We all kill a minion at some point, right?

Yormaughm4 votes

Kinda unrelated, but I feel like Sejuani is one of the champions that needs all the blue buffs. I'm not sure if this is commonly known. Anything earlier than late game she basically runs out of mana using all 4 of her abilities in one fight, it doesn't help that she has to keep W up constantly to farm either (of course, item 3713 helps with this a little bit now though.) Either way, I'm reluctant to give up 2nd blue as Sej and I know people expect me to.

Amumu is even worse. Poor little fella has serious mana issues.

Was gonna make that exact same point, I think fiddle too, but amumu needs to build tank, so building ap sustain harder for him than ap mana whores

When you come mid lane to gank my enemy laner and blow their flash, that's something I don't forget.

Kalista OMG, their flash is down. Why didn't anybody tank tower so I could kill them? Useless jungler. Can't even gank properly. ... Don't even get me started on this trash support.

(Disclaimer: I don't like kalista. There's no other reason to single her out.)

freeformline1 votes

I totally understand, but for me it's Vayne.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Really?

I've never had a Vayne pull me in from 1500 range because they went into a 1v5. Then give me a 900 range dash in exchange.

Never mind trying to hit that thing when you're against one (Exception: Taric).

Apollocliptic1 votes

You know you can ignore Kalista ulti and just place yourself over a wall when that happens :D

More annoying is a Kalista that doesn't use her Ultimate ONCE all game. I had 4 deaths (we still won, other lanes carried) but ALL of my deaths could have been prevented by Kalista, but a lot of adc's don't play to help their support (same reason I have died Xmillion times when that "heal" spell would have saved me. then they don't re, go back in, then pop the heal when leona stuns them and they die anyway

Another Kalista example: playing as Taric or other melee champ like leona. Just jumped on enemy adc. About to land your stun Kalista "No you're not" ^^

Dear Laner.

  1. Blue does more then increase clear speed, it allows me to gank lanes more often. Unfortunately if i do not get to those lanes fast enough im going to get yelled at for not ganking. Besides the fact that a third of the time the blue i give ends up on the other team :/. The time your spending ganking our teams lane could be time you spend pushing while i gank as an assassin... but then your mid lane AND the lane you are in are now ungankable unless i Am there with you, however mids never... ever, wait for the jungler.

  2. I understand if you just go to base to buy and return, but if your going to take a ganking oppertunity away from me, i NEED to push your lane because your taking possible gold from me ganking a lane before im there, so now im left with two lanes i cant gank and an empty lane that i need to catch up on because i could potentially lose out on a LOT of gold as a result. But i can not stay in lane like a laner, if im halfway done and i need to be elsewhere i just leave... i can not stay as i am not a laner, just as people can not rely on mid to gank lanes every game because mid is a laner.

  3. Maybe we whiffed the first time, maybe because his stuff is on cooldown he is going to play more defensively, as somebody should who just lost a fight and had to use summoners... Your opponent knows he/she is flashless, he/she will be doing what they can without it. Getting their flash willl certainly help your lane, but if they use flash and you dont, you should be able to deal with your lane after that.

  4. 100% agree.

Esteemed jungler~ :)

how do you manipulate waves?

Drunk Rummate2 votes

{quoted}

how do you manipulate waves?

Basically you look at the number of minions your wave has and compare it to the number of minions in the enemy wave.

More enemy minions means the wave is shoving towards you, so last hitting only will cause the wave to continue pushing in your direction and is really useful if you want to play safe or hold the minion wave for a teammate.

More friendly minions means the wave is shoving towards your opponent, so hard shoving the wave is probably a good idea in this scenario as it will help to reset the minions back towards the center of the lane faster.

A good rule of thumb when freezing is to leave about 2-3 enemy caster minions up and let those minions aggro you instead of letting them crash into the turret. Pull the minions in a perpendicular direction away from the turret before they reach it and your laner will absolutely adore you for it. If you pull this off properly it even sets up a gank opportunity - the enemy laner will have to come forward to CS, so if you stick around and do raptors or wolves you can come back for an easy kill.

hi nasreth.

if you die with blue buff then the enemy gains all those advantages over you if you take blue, then back , you have it active for around 1 minute. have the mindset of never getting it when you choose your champion.

that said, when i jungle i pretty much open the jungle after second clear.

Yes, part of giving your blue buff away is the risk that it will be lost. But that risk is more than worth the potential benefit, which is why it's commonly done. Giving blue to your mid is essentially freeing them up to hard shove the lane and help gank; it opens up the door for 4 man ganks, duo or trio (with support) jungle invades, and a plethora of other strategic options that you would otherwise not have access to.

If you're tired of people asking you for a gank every 30 seconds, consider that freeing up your mid lane with blue buff would allow them to cover up some of those holes for you and give you more opportunities elsewhere.

Partholonian2 votes

Keeping the blue risks losing it too, unless you intend to JUST sit in the jungle for the whole duration (in which case, what do you need it for?)

Unless 0% of your ganks result in your own death, which would be really impressive because even pros can't say that.

Nucleophilic atk1 votes

Exactly why I do not give blue buff if my mid laner is either dying or not warding....basically if they aren't good. That blue buff is a magnet for enemy junglers...and if you aren't warding, you aren't getting mine.

Squidblimp1 votes

Dear esteemed mid-laner: you may have my buffs, but only if you ask nicely. You may also not have it at level 1, I need the experience. You may have it when it next respawns, but not if you are feeding, as you will give it the enemy mid-laner, increasing their own kill pressure.

But I do agree with this post, you don't seem like the kind of mid-laner that I'm referencing.

Facade451 votes

Lol.. if only you said that to all junglers. They would listen. With a toxic community, they never listen.

On the other hand, there's newer players out there who don't know these things or haven't played in a while so they don't know the meta. I don't main jungle but when I play, it's difficult to follow all the advices u said above. Maybe if riot added tutorials for those things, it could be solved. :D

If I see my mid lane die, I instantly can't trust them with a Blue.
