Unpopular Opinion Regarding Orange Essence Changes

To all you people who are demanding that Riot revert the orange essence changes: are you fkin 5 years old?

Riot is literally giving you free stuff. Yes, you can argue that the aim here is to get people more invested in the game via a tangible reward system because people spend money when they are more invested, but at the end of the day, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND MONEY, so this stuff is literally free. And here you all are, complaining about how the free content ISN'T FREE ENOUGH. Think about that for a moment please.

Riot has clearly decided that microtransactions aren't turning enough of a profit for them, so they've limited the amount of free stuff they give us. That's it. That's all that's happened. They are not taking away content. They are not forcing you to spend more on the game. They are just trying to make more money on content that is (and I can't stress this enough) PURELY COSMETIC.

And just to get out ahead of anyone who might play the "but I already had bunch of skin shards/hextech chests/event boxes that I was saving", well let me remind you that Riot literally had an in-client notification recommending that we disenchant any and all shards that we didn't plan on upgrading before the essence conversions changed. They literally warned you about this, and you chose not to act. That's on you.

Now my final point: >To make up for essence drop rate changes, we'll tune the way loot boxes work to increase the amount of skins you'll get from them. We'll also add "bad luck protection," so you won't ever go on long streaks without getting a skin shard or a gemstone from chests.

Stop. Fucking. Whining. Riot is giving you stuff. They absolutely don't have to, and they probably still lose money even after the essence conversion changes. Be grateful or be silent.

The "free stuff" and loot crates are meant to prey on addictive personalities and lack of self control. #Related video Different things, same concept.

First off, let me say this: I've never bought a lootcrate, and I never intend to with real money.

The problem is that Riot's goal and their methods contradict here. They want users to buy additional loot crates with RP, but users have no motivation to do so if they decide that their return on investment is not worthwhile.

Riot needs to strike a balance between refunding the right amount and allowing players the fun of getting surprise content from the boxes. If players receive content that they do not want and they cannot get a good return on investment by refunding it, then they will become discouraged from ever buying a loot crate again.

Maybe loot crates bought with RP should come with some sort of protection against receiving as much content that you already own. Or perhaps the crates should allow you to get a larger refund on content that you have to disenchant because you already own copies of it.

The only thing I want to "complain" about, and it's really just me bringing up this point because it's something even I missed at first is that: Riot isn't increasing the amount of things you get from purchasing chests with RP. Therefore, right now, you are getting less than you did a week ago for real money.

I think Riot either needs to decrease the prices of loot boxes currently in the RP store, or increase the amount of things you get for the current price. But ONLY because you get much less now for disenchanting anything you didn't like. Other than that, I'm not upset about them changing it, because I agree people could get things really quickly for free.

I'm not upset about the free content changing, but I am concerned that the real money purchasable content has been nerfed, and is no longer "worth" it.

The worst part about this thread is its been pointed out to the OP in other threads that the in-game client addressed only Champions/blue essence shards and that the Riot Plz article is almost 4 months old and is not a specific announcement. He seems to be under the impression that EVERYONE was supposed to **read **let alone remember that single line hidden in a blog post from 11 weeks past, but never reiterated in other OFFICIAL FAQ or given with a ratio.

I lost interest in what you had to say the instant you defaulted to "It's a free game" argument.

They cut down on what we can earn for free to encourage more purchases. They have said this outright. To this, your likely response is "They are a business and need to make a profit!"

A business still needs satisfied customers to make said profit. And Riot is pissing off more and more players. Even if Forums are a small sample, the fact is that it's still a huge percentage of unhappy players. And we end up feeling like Riot is creating smurfs for the sole purpose of trying to sound like normal players are happy with the changes or shouldn't bother to complain.
