OHHHH HERE WE GO. This is gonna be fun...
First off on my rank, you seem to think this is the account I focus on. I assure you it is not. Don't pull the rank card like it means anything.
Interesting: so this is a smurf for you. Why, then, are you only in silver? If you are good (as you so clearly imply) why are you only being placed in silver? Incoming comment about how you had bad provisionals or how you don't play your main on this account. Either way, silver.
You also heavily imply that since the player you point out did not try his hardest, you lost. You're placing blame.
Here's why we actually lost: The player in question started the game by automuting a player on our team for what he believed to be a critical comment directed at him (in fact, it was a joke directed at a different player). Already off to a bad start, but then, throughout the duration of the game, this player utterly refused to respond to both chat and pings, resulting in him/her frequently being either overextended or simply not grouped with the team, resulting in him/her getting caught out and killed and forcing a great deal of very unfavorable teamfights (and he/she was playing kennen, so that ult was sorely missed). You can say I'm playing the blame game all you want, but facts are facts, and a 4v5 in plat is simply not a winnable scenario when your comp is based on an aoe teamfight combo (kennen + amumu + lulu).
This game is an esport, but ranked queue is different than any sport played.
No, not really, and this is why: LoL is a team game, just like football. And just like in football, every player has a position or role. Each person is responsible for that role in order to make the team function. If one player fails in their role, the entire team will suffer for it. Ergo, if you are not playing ranked with the mentality of "I have to devote myself entirely to this game because I have 4 other people counting on me" you are being a selfish prick and you are actively ruining the game for those 4 other players. The only real difference between LoL and a "classical" sport is that the teams are formed randomly and there is no practice/training. However, proper communication/coordination can sufficiently replace practice and training, especially given that the enemy team has the same problem. Any way you slice it, LoL functions very much the same as a conventional team sport.
Their mistakes are your mistakes. Their mentality is your mentality. Their loss is your loss.
This. This right here. Their mentality is evidently NOT my mentality (which is, ofc the reason for this post...duh). Their mistakes are obviously NOT my mistakes (I don't control them, so this is an incorrect statement). However, their loss IS my loss, and therein lies the problem. I can play as hardcore as I want, but if some asshat wants to just queue up to "have fun" and not play to win, I have to suffer the consequences of his/her actions. This is not right, at least not in a queue that was designed for the sole purpose of true competition. And it is this competition that I am fighting for here. Riot has gone to great lengths to reduce the competition in ranked (ie DQ), and I and a great many other ranked players find it difficult to enjoy the game because of it.
YOU ARE THE ONLY THING YOU CAN INFLUENCE IN THIS GAME.
Yes, this is correct, and when I'm actually playing I do my best to abide by this mentality. But when I'm on the forums, I can afford to actually take a more principled stand against that which I believe to be an injustice to rather large group of players.
