Custom Skin community needs your help

Dear Community and Developers,

My name is Martin I am a small part of custom skin community after getting referred to Boards by the Player support I want a few minutes of your time.

We in custom skin community make skins that haven't been made by riot yet. Our non-professional work gives people placeholders until they have found a skin they want in League. Even though we had custom skins we still bought Riot skins and unlike some programs we don't supply riot skins for free usage.

Our humble community has been active for more than 3 years now. The past 2 years have been rough for us cause we were getting tossed around by the changes made in The League file systems, every time trying to find a way to use our creations without being against ToS having less and less creative ability as more limits arise and every time losing a lot of our fans.

Now we are stuck because unintentionally Riot has closed all the doors for us. The only way for us to use our skins is to get our accounts potentially banned. This might not look like a bad deal, but all our efforts would go to waste and our community which once had thousands of members would disappear altogether. No more Maps, no more HUDs and no more pre-rework champions taking the fun we get making them and seeing other people use them with it. For some that bit of fun is all that keeps them playing this game.

We know you are supportive of the idea of custom skins, but right now we need your actual support and perhaps a way to make this possible again.

I was so sad when I found out that the latest patch made it impossible to use custom skins with a well-known custom skin app. I am feeling so nostalgic for the old Summoner's rift, and I was really happy to know there's an alternative, and I didn't even get to try it once.

Please Riot! Hear us out, both fans and creators.

While I don’t know if help will come I certainly hope it does, as I enjoy watching the “Serious Montage” Kshaway does. I’ll never get tired of the AP Singer montage, with Singed as a Coke machine.

I am a custom skin creator myself and would love to be able to use the skins I made again. The community invests a lot of time into making their skins, even when it's just small edits. What Seriu said is really true, some people (me included) only play this game due to the skins they use or even made themselves. It's a great opportunity to be able to make something you already like more enjoyable by editing it a little. Custom skins don't effect other players in any way after all.

Playing without the custom skins is also somewhat challenging (?) if that makes any sense. People get used to the stuff they install, especially things like custom maps. I personally used the mystic rift mod and find it extremely hard to play the normal game since the original League Of Legends Map has a completely different colour saturation.

We are not hurting anyone with the skins we make. We love the game and want to support it. Custom Skins are just there to make it more enjoyable for us. Please Riot, we beg you... Don't take this away from us. We're not hurting anybody.

Custom skins have proven awesome for content creating, or making skins that could never be made by Riot themselves due to one small detail:

You never have to care for a lack of clarity as the opponent never sees the custom skin. You can give your skin outlandish animations, bring back older versions of champions for oneself, make humorous skins that no opponent would want permanently in the game, or even have characters cosplay others!

When making custom skins, the last thing I want is having to create them in spite of anticheat measures. In the past year, this was possible; a majorty of cosmetic assets, from textures to models to animations, were simply replaceable by custom ones, with no critical methods needed. Some people in the custom skins community were insanely good at modeling, or bringing flavor of entirely different artstyles into the game. I've enjoyed watching Kshaway's 'Very Serious' montages because of custom skins. Because of this, I just hope there's still a place for custom skins left in the game!

I'd like to add to the fact that those of us using custom skins DO STILL PURCHASE OFFICIAL SKINS. They're not generally being used as a way to avoid buying skins, etc. I myself generally use custom skins more for HUD/Map, with a few custom champion skins on the side for times when I find something interesting that Riot's never done.

For me, personally, I use the map skin I use because it's darker and easier on my eyes, so I can get more games in per day without getting a headache or strained. The fact that the map is super pretty is a bonus.

I'm not a creator, but I see the work these people put into their skins, and honestly you can see how much time and effort go into the planning and execution of them all. Custom skins are just as huge of a part of the creative community as Youtubers, streamers, etc, even if we might not be as large. Their creations encourage people to try new champions, play more, and maybe even learn the creative side themselves.

I and most others won't be using the alternative method found, as it doesn't bode well with Riot's TOS and none of us are looking to break rules here. We'd genuinely like to work with Riot to find a solution that works for everyone, so our community can still flourish.

The members of this community all pour their heart and soul in making their passion a reality by creating their very own custom skins. I truly hope Riot would observe this issue attentively, and aid the community in reviving their works.

We love working with our own skins and we do not want it to die out. Since I play League games I use something like that. It's fun and personalized the whole game for everyone. I work for example on the old map because I like it better than the new one. Because I play since s3. And that gives me a funny feeling. i really wish for custom skins to come back like they were before , i had so many great memories whith em it's really sad that they don't work anymore now.. i really do think custom skins as well as their creators do spread positivity and happiness , i hope we get what we deserve back!

Also, Riot!

Sometimes we want to make awesome cinematics like Akali's and Sylas' reveals! We can't do that without extremely high-res textures. And how do we get those? We modded them in!

And the Riot creation contests that come and go ever so often? Yeah, custom models and particles put onto a skin!

Shen's training room? Mods!

And even I, slowly making mini reworks to the visuals of abilities, sounds and model of a champion? All thanks to mods.

We're not taking away from you, probably we're doing the opposite and giving instead. I've seen multiple community creations ( Dragon Master Swain, Pizza Delivery Sivir, Dragon Trainer Heimerdinger. ) go from forgotten concept to possible in-game skin thanks to mods, and soon enough with so much attention you added them in yourselves!

Even Pulsefire Riven, started as art, into a skin mod into a real skin!

If you're going to give us the rift ( League Director ), why not give us the power to make something out of it?

I want to add in I personally use custom skins in order to play with the Winter Summoner's rift (the one created by Riot). I have a sensitivity to certain wavelengths of light and the blue texture of the Winter skin helps be able to play League without headaches. I know this probably doesn't apply to a lot of people, but I am also aware of people who install lower res textures in order to run League on their computers.

I'm new in custom skin creation but I loved it alot. It made me look at League from another perspective and opened eyes for a different views. Seeing players like your skins makes you feel warm inside your heart, awesome feeling, trust me. After the Morg and Kayle rework path it freezed, many of us were trying to find the way to bring custom skins back for life. We couldn't make it. Dear LoL community and Riot Games, I beg you for making custom skins playable again, we are really tiny community, but we also can be helpfull. And we don't break the rules ok? We respect Your work and not cheating like making official skins aviable for everyone for free, we are good for You, please be good back.

I haven't been able to use sound-mods... For probably over a year now. Any workaround the skins community has come up with has not included sound. Sound has been dead ever since the anti-cheat went live.

It has been a question I always asked myself, why does Riot not support the custom skins community as much as Valve with DoTa or CSGO? I was never too bothered by that question, but now that this is up, I think that it might be appropriate to ask that question here as part of the topic going on.

Like I don't understand Riot.... Why would they disable something harmless and the only person who can see it is the player using it.

So, unfortunately, I don't see much coming of this. While I certainly see how this sucks, you have to realize that you have forever been exploiting loopholes that were never guaranteed to be there, never supported, and never allowed.

Riot has started making changes that may have inadvertently closed the loopholes that you were using, but that doesn't matter because you were never supposed to be using them in the first place. Custom skins have never been officially approved or supported, and will never be. League is not a design studio or a moddable game, and it won't be.

Garen is fun, but I dont like any of his skins, custom skins allowed me to be an actual bad ass knight, not to mention a Witch Hunter Gangplank, skins which I would buy if they actually released. Now I cant use either, and it brings me a tear to the eye, its a real shame to see such creativity go to waste.

As someone who does custom HUD designs, that is something that Riot never implement into the game, it is really sad that I cant use those and share them with other people as well.

Giving use that small opening to be creative again it will be more than enough for all of us in this small community. summoner 1

I joined the custom skin community when it all started. I always used those skins for more variety and made my first custom skin about 5 years ago and still love doing them. There are such talented creators out there. One skin sometimes takes weeks or even months to make. The sad thing is every time the community created ways to share, use and make custom skins, something changed and all work was shattered. It´s a bad bad feeling when you invest so much time and energy into something and you know tomorrow it could be all for nothing. Please Riot, for many it´s the only thing keeping them invested in the game. We are not a very big voice and you could easily ignore us but I hope you don´t. Support us, please!

Hey, I also support the custom skins, maps and HUDs. honestly why cant we be like dota, they have a modding community and our could be so much larger, Also can we have custom icons for champions abilities (shaco main wants to use old ability icons if its possible tell me pls)

Been Permanently suspended for custom skin usage. Summing up Riots response to me is them saying that they don't endorse it and can't tell if there is an advantage over other players.
