I'm really starting to feed the effects of DQ boosting

MonkeyMadness··81 votes·3,124 views

I'm currently hovering around mid gold. I was here last season on my rise to plat, and it was some of the most competetive LoL I've ever played. I know you diamond+ elitists will give me hell for that, but it really was. Most of the games were close, and I was forced to actually get better at the game in order to rank up. I was constantly being challenged and it made me a better player. Now, mid gold is complete trash. Most of my past 20 games (both win and loss) were due to 1 or 2 players that absolutely did not deserve to be in this mmr and just couldn't play at this level. And before anyone tells me that "bad games happen" or some shit, there's a big difference between a bad game and going 0/17 (yes, this actually happened, and it wasn't intentional). I can only assume this is due to DQ boosting people. I know this argument has been beat to death, but DQ has absolute GUTTED the competition in ranked. Games are inconsistent and much less rewarding to play.

Edit: typo in the title: feel* not feed...so used to typing the word "feed" now that it just kinda rolled off my fingers...

Even Heroes of the Storm went to a Solo Queue ranked system.

I used to say "go play hots instead, you are too casual"

Now League is even easier.

Diamond 5 is most stacked elo with boosted people, cause if you would like to get boosted then to where? Ofcourse D5, nobody cares about <Diamond elos and Master tier is too difficult to boost so D5 is where most of the boosters end, and i can easly say that 3/4 of players in D5 dont deserve it at all.

MonkeyMadness22 votes

I feel like gold has a good population of undeserving boosters as well, as it is the minimum rank for the victorious skin.

Mister Support1 votes

Honestly I feel like gold can easily be reached without a person carrying them self at all, just get lucky with allies and they just let them self get carried.

MonkeyMadness9 votes

If you are solidly in silver or bronze, gold is challenging. However, when you play with a 5 man premade, it becomes very manageable for these players. Even more so when one or more of those premade players is a diamond on a smurf.

Hellen Keller9 votes

Thank you. I've played ~500 games in silver this season. I don't know if I belong in Gold or not (500 games would point to the latter, but I perform well in most of my games. I definitely have room to improve) but its so demoralizing hearing people say getting Gold is easy, even if its true.

Slightly off topic but its even more demoralizing seeing players that are worse than you getting a higher rank simply because they have a plat or diamond friend boosting them.

The thing with that is, you can feel good about yourself for reaching ranks alone that they couldn't. In the end boosted players are just a farce, a facade, whatever you wanna call it. If you can reach a rank without being boosted that will feel so satisfying. It did when I hit Gold last season, knowing I did it alone :D And I'm on the cusp of doing it again.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

What you are saying is true, but no one really puts stock in things like this. Plat border looks better than gold border, and that's all there is to it, unfortunately, which is why DQ is a problem.

MrWasjig1 votes

People don't put stock in things like personal accomplishment? Fuck and here I thought I was jaded.

Don't take my advocation of personal achievement as me supporting Dyno, I still fucking hate it but can at least take solace in the fact that I am where I am because of me and me alone.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

The issue is that I (and plenty of others) managed to get to plat last season, still on our own. Now I (and plenty of others) are stuck in gold due to the few % lower win ratios caused by DQ (and before any nay-sayers spew their vitriol about this, it's pretty much proven fact at this point that DQ causes slight dips in the rin rates of solo players). So basically, I am forced to sit and watch while others attain ranks that they don't deserve while I sit a good 2 to 3 divisions lower than last season. It's not about prestige. It's not about a sense of personal accomplishment. It's about fairness, and DQ is not fair.

MrWasjig1 votes

Well when you put it like thaaaaat...

Thing is I didn't reach Plat last Season, Gold was as far as I got so I can only take your word on that front, about reaching beyond Gold. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Dyno is fair, far from it. In fact a lot of moves recently (as in, past year or so) have been a gradual shift to pushing away pure solo players from the game, which in itself is unfair :P

Thanks for the good luck. Do you have any advice on climbing through silver and/or gold?

MonkeyMadness1 votes

Jungle. You can impact literally every other player in the game from this position as opposed to laning. Mid can also roam for global pressure, but seeing as how any competent player will announce mia when you do this, ganks will usually be a bit hard to pull off. Although, silver players probs don't call/react to mias very well so I guess it kinda depends.

Okay, I will. Thank you a ton for the advice, I'd love to play a game or two some time.

AKA I got Gold 5 so now I'm good at the game; it's time to stop playing ranked until next season (that was also me for the longest time).

MonkeyMadness3 votes

I mean sure there are some people that will do that. But actually, you can't get demoted from gold due to inactivity, so if this mentality applies to anyone, then just fucking play normals.

Also, I'm in gold 3 right now, so these are not the people I'm encountering. Gold 3 should be solid gold level players, yet I regularly see people end the laning phase with scores of 0/5 or worse. I've even seen someone go 0/17, and based on the play I saw, it wasn't intentional. That's just not ok...

morris12 votes

Gold is the transition between very horrible people and very skilled people (ignoring the massive amounts of boosted players). There's going to be moments where your top laner just got in gold because he had a lucky winning streak in provisionals and their top laner will be a smurf from Diamond+. There's nothing to do in that case.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

Smurfs cause a whole other set of issues in ranked games, but that's a discussion for another day...

Ayasaki1232 votes

I've been watching some streams recently where challenger/master players are going like 0/12. And I'm not talking about random players in the stream, I'm talking about the actual streamer. Pros and ex-Pros even. It can happen. You can have a horrible game where you're tilted and the enemy just has your number. Doesn't necessarily mean the player is boosted.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

This is true, but did the 0/12 challenger/master streamer also continue to build full damage renekton after dying 5 times in the first 7 minutes despite 4 other players pleading with him/her to just build tank and play safe? Did the streamer continue to dive the fed as fuck enemy top laner UNDER TOWER despite being 5 kills down? Did the streamer refuse to ward to prevent the enemy jungler from getting free kills? If the answer to any of those questions was no, then we are dealing with a very different situation here...

Bro i feel you , i got stuck between G3 and g2 for probably 100+ because most of the players that i played with clearly didnt belong in Gold , i finally got lucky with good teams got to gold2 then from gold 1 to platv in a 9 game win streak

Side note : I play solo

StrokeMyHammur6 votes

Nowadays, it's healthy to stop at gold 5. Ranked is utter balls this season anyways. Get the skin and stop until rank means anything again.

Narasimha1 votes

I don't know about 'nowadays'. I've always stopped at Gold 5 and felt it was the best option. Theres no point going through the stress of ranked just to make your border look a bit better. The skin is all that matters.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

Well I got plat last season when that still meant something and it just feels wrong to allow myself to end this season lower than I was last season.

CaptnJakSparrow6 votes

Worse in diamond to be honest lol.

I always get a kick out of op.gging my team and seeing two of my team mates playing 50-100 games as TF with summoner 4 summoner 6 / summoner 4 summoner 12 For summoner spells. Hit diamond. Then suddenly they're fucking Zed players/Support players, whatever fucking have you, and now use summoner 14 summoner 4 for spells, and their CS drastically changes.

Then they run around going 0/15/0 bitching about their team. This is pretty much every game I've ever had, even in diamond 3 mmr when I was there before running into 30+ games of this bullshit. Doesn't help all the challenger teams were sick of their 6 hour long queues just to face TSM. So , they all hop on their smurfs just to amplify the huge skill gap already present.

There's a reason my friends list full of challengers/masters/diamond 2+ players is largely off line anymore. Nobody wants to deal with that fucking bull shit.

.+ 1 for honest edit reason :)

Captain Aishi2 votes

about your 'diamond elitists will give me hell' part, i'll just say that no matter what elo you play at, it's going to be the most competitive for you if it's your current skill level and also the one of those around you playing in your games, because you have to give it your all to achieve victory just as much as anyone else

Natsuki Chan5 votes

What? You learn nothing if you get stomped by a 3-4 man premade who just repeatedly rotate around the map and take objectives while your SOLO teammates don't know what the fuck is going on.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

Thank you, but there are plenty of asshats in this game that don't understand this concept.

Feed Daddy2 votes

Idk everyone Is garbage bro

The Yetii Rider2 votes

Upvoted solely for the hilarious edit. Playing with friends and climbing may get you on a level where you are outmatched in individual skill, but you climbed there because you were developing teamwork skills. You can go 0/17 and still be more helpful than the 17/0 assassin who doesn't ward, doesn't group, kills one person and then gets blown up.

Individual skill doesn't mean anything compared to teamwork.

Tempist7 votes

Individual skill doesn't mean anything compared to teamwork.

Which is exactly the issue people have with Dynamic Queue.

By allowing solo players to queue up with premades, and giving all the players an individual rank, you completely eliminate any sort of ranked integrity.

It's a fundamental flaw with dynamic queue, that no amount of pretty words from Riot is going to fix.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

I agree with Tempist.

Also I really don't care how many wards you place, if you are 0/17 you are NOT helping the team. Let me also emphasize that this was not an exaggeration, I actually had a 0/17 mid laner. Can't remember exactly how many assists, but I think it was around 5. And like I said, it really didn't seem intentional. Like, they guy was just doing his best, but he sucked that bad. Yet he was of gold mmr, and this strongly points to boosting. And he wasn't warding or playing defensively either, which tells me that he didn't just have a bad game, as his awareness and game sense were horribly lacking, as well.

Umio1 votes

I believe your KDA reflects your actual MMR 0/17 = B5

MonkeyMadness1 votes

idk if I believe this to so strictly true, but when you have KDA this poor it raises a lot of red flags, especially when coupled with the amount of game sense displayed by this guy.

Sammystorm2 votes

The main problem I have is that games are much more stompy. It might be the meta but I doubt it. The conclusion I have reached is the same as what you have reached is that the inclusion of premades makes for bad games. The mmr is probably balanced out between teams. However what happens alot is a lower tier player is matched in a lane against a higher level team mate. Gold is also where people have started to learn to end games. So it just results in a lot of faster, stompier games. Not as many close ones in my experience.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

I have noticed this, as well. It's all part of how Riot is trying transform the game into this "team-oriented" bullshit. Dragons are worth sooo much now, especially since elder dragon doubles all the bonuses you've managed to accrue throughout the first 35 minutes. Baron allows you to absolutely destroy the enemy base without much counterplay available. Towers are super easy to take down (and to make it worse, dragons give tower killing power and so do red buffs). If you have a team that can work to take a few early objectives, it's very hard for the enemy team to make a comeback. Also, with all that Riot has done to shorten game duration, early leads confer even great advantage, meaning that whichever team comes out of the laning phase on top usually stays there.

Enraged Piglet2 votes

idk I've been hovering gold 2 and 3 and it seems like everytime I break through gold 2 my teamate quality instantly drops and I can get close to gold 1 and then I lose enough to drop me back to gold 3 because my teamates just seem to either be tilted or just doesn't seem to be able to play as well.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

I'm in the same position with the same issue...

I am Pacman1 votes

Here is how generally the lower tiers of skill level go (gold and below).

If you are bronze then you don't have mechanics or game sense at all.

Silver people start to become good in the laning phase but don't really know what to do after.

Gold. This is where things diverge for a tier. You can get to gold pretty easily a lot of ways. You could just one trick pony it, get lucky, be shit at laning but have good game sense, or great mechanics but bad map awareness. You could easily have two gold players with vastly different abilities. One could just shit on the other in laning phase and then lose the game because he got caught out or vice versa.

Once you get to plat you need to start being at least decent at everything so skill level evens out again and then you just need to remember more information get better mechanics as you climb higher.

Then again these are just my observations on a couple smurfs now and my own journey though silver and then gold a couple seasons ago when I first started playing ranked.

The Deckowner2 votes

more like in lower elo even if you have the strategy your team have no idea why you are doing such and such so they never follow you up.

ActivatingEMP2 votes

Idk, I recently got placed in Bronze III and I don't think it's as bad as people say- everyone seems to follow up on cc

The Deckowner4 votes

People don't know how to rotate, take towers, buffs, and other objectives like baron and dragon. Literally all they know is group mid and teamfight, which is why games drag out so long in lower elos.

ActivatingEMP1 votes

I'd agree with that

Narasimha1 votes

I highly doubt it. I mean, let's be honest, no one is going to boost just to Gold. Theres noting to boost there. If you're going to pull someone up, then you may as well do it to atleast Platinum. Yes, there will be a few outliers, but those are far and few between.

Steven Mcburn5 votes

Why boost higher than gold. Not like you get a whole lot more for being anything higher than gold anyway. And a mid gold player might've fallen from plat too, especially if they went 0/17 in a game.

Narasimha2 votes

People like to show off. Hell if I know why. To be fair I suppose, Plat is really when you can start to say "I'm good at this game."

The Deckowner4 votes

they probably boosted to gold for endvof season reward
