Hey Riot, How Many English/Philosophy Majors Do You Employ?
I don't expect you'll give me those numbers if you track them in the first place. But I increasingly read that tech in general is starting to onboard the Liberal Arts class because the problems of the future aren't technical but philosophical, psychological, and (for lack of a better term) moral.
To that end, how many of those folks are on board with you guys? I ask because it seems to be some of the balance issues that exist or the reworks that don't work (Ryze) are because people aren't taking the 10k ft. view and saying "What happens if this goes live and we don't have a solution for X?"
To be clear, I'm not looking for a job. But as I finish up a Master's in Sustainable City Design, the question of philosophy comes up a lot. To put a finer point on it, I was listening to Jarrett Walker (A prominent figure in transit) and he was recently saying that Mayors look at a subway and see the cost, so they don't build it. But the cost of single-occupancy vehicles still exists, just spread out in different forms, so they don't think about it. But it still costs us, and subways can resolve the problem IF mayors can see beyond the bill to the overall SROI.
I sometimes wonder if there isn't a bit of that in reworks. Things like indirect nerfs and the gap between "what we wanted to achieve with X" and what actually came of it - those are all the issues I think more LAs would help with since we basically sat around for 4 years taking apart and putting back together everything from grand plot narratives to whether or not a junkie politician would actually care about his own daughter.
But hey, maybe I'm wrong and you ONLY have LAs on your balance team. In which case, have ya thought about an engineer?
