The problem with blitz.

greekvandaL··23 votes·3,646 views

Ain't his numbers or cd's or movement or w/e.

The part that makes him toxic is the fact that everytime he presses that damn Q button you gotta learn a new dodging pattern. The Q pretty much never hits properly and it is frustrating to say the least. Fix it it's been 5 years

Blitz isn't toxic and doesn't have problems.

He's binary as all hell, and can be frustrating, but he's a pub stomper in most cases, and an extreme niche pick at best.

Plat 6 doesn't exist, as others have said.

To clarify, I left a word out of my original post. That being "stomper", which would have come after "pub".

Blitz isn't toxic and doesn't have problems. He can be frustrating, but his primary role is a pub stomper to murder players who are already pretty poor at the game.

He's similar to Trynd and Darius; a marginally skilled one can make life a living hell for unskilled players, like those in bronze and silver. However when you start encountering players with mechanical knowledge, and who ward, he quickly becomes a non-issue.

He'd require a pretty hefty kit rework to be anything else, but he's pretty much fine as is.

Ah, so the pros are poor at the game? In the meta before ardent, he was p/b alongside thresh, and he still crops up from time to time in pro games.

Isn't being binary and frustrating problematic?

Sort of. There are multiple problematic abilities / champions in the game which are not toxic, overpowered, or even really worth mentioning.

Generally speaking, the problem with being 'binary' is that it makes balance a tight rope. Champions which are binary tend to be either noob stompers and little else, or godly death machines which have to be pick ban. It's extraordinarily hard to balance them in the middle, with acceptable variance, because of how straight-forward they are and how extreme their success vs fail cases are.

To be fair, it would be nice for some visual clarity on the range and hitbox of his Q, considering it's slightly different on every skin. Though I've also noticed, playing against Blitz, that depending on who I'm playing changes the degree of clarity needed.

For example, if I'm playing Soraka or Janna, it seems that the hitbox can be a little misleading. More often or not, when I get pulled the hook does not visually touch my champion.

Other times, when I'm playing Sona or Morgana and get pulled, the clarity is a little better because even at max range, the hook visually looks like it's at least touching the edge of the character model (in their cases, their dresses).

And despite the obvious solution to these specific situations being "Don't be in range of Blitzcrank," a QOL visual update to address the actual range and hitbox of Blitz's Q would be nice, if possible.

It does occasionally feel like there is RNG added to his Q hitbox around minion waves and it probably has to do with whatever Riot has done to minion pathing and collisions. Also, subtly differently from the previous issue, Blitzcrank can consistently hook people that appear to be visually well behind their own minion wave, but their hitbox is actually in front of the minion wave. This is a mechanic known to Blitzcrank players, but looks like complete BS to anyone unaware.

Even pro/retired pro players will "WTF" at some of the grabs that go through from Blitzcrank. There are a number of qtpie or Sneaky clips that come to mind here.

There are no decently skilled players complaining about Blitzcrank's grab when it functions as it appears that it should. People are complaining about getting pulled through minion waves or a hook visually completely missing them and still grabbing them.

Some clarity could be afforded here. I wouldn't say it's the single most pressing issue right now by far, but it definitely feels terrible to be "outplayed" by this ability's "hitbox".

Yeah, I agree. His Q hitbox is really weird, but this applies to the entire game though. Hitboxes simply aren't clear. Look at the magnetic Thresh hook.

I personally don't like blitz because he's a one trick pony. One really strong ability. He was like old nidalee - land that one ability correctly before a teamfight and it's gg. This doesn't make him problematic because he can really only do one thing, but it makes him strong at elos where people don't really know how to play.

Blitz has so many counters in bot lane he literally can never be meta other than as a counter pick.

Don't like playing against Blitz? Learn Tahm Kench and laugh every time he tries to pull the adc or thinks he can pull you and still win the fight.

55th highest blitz mastery NA and TK still fucks me

That being said I do think Riot is looking into changing Blitzcrank...

It's the combination of how powerful his Q is vs how unreliable the hitbox is.

Blitz isn't so far off from the "stop them early champs." If he can connect with his hook it doesn't quite matter what you do. If he can't, he's basically a big piece of meat. My other issue with him is that he basically necessitates hanging out behind minions because his hook is that strong.

Forget questions of fairness, that's just a garbo position to be in. And I think that's why you don't see him the higher you go. He's possibly bad in Bronze, he's definitely bad in higher ranks.

In high tiers aka dia 1+ they dont pick him for hitting the hook alone. The idea of him having the spell on the ready can change the course of the lane drammaticly. Take it from an upcoming adc abuser ( myself ) i'm not scared of dodging it i trust my mechanics the whole idea of him having it ready for a gank tho makes me wanna play like a pussy and lose cs/xp )

Blitz has one of the best examples of riots unintuitive physics bc the grab can go through anything and pull through anything which is why people dislike him so much and why he does so well in lower ranks. Personally I ban him every match and i've been playing for 5 years, why? Because if you play someone squishy or who doesnt have a movement skill then 1 grab equals your flash or death. You can only stand behind minions for so long before he can reach like 900 units and pull you almost instantly across lane to be instant knocked and then silenced, plus he can build ap and do over 1.5k damage easy with only 8-10 seconds before doing it again.

Lios Ashenblade1 votes

Im a support main, and I only ban him, if I dont like the adc picked for my team lol, his hook is really easy to dodge, BUT I played one with a friend the other day, enemy team had blitz, my friend was the adc, but was SOOOO terrified of this blitz hook since the wards lapsed, he just couldnt even focus on cs, it was kind of funny

IvernBramblefoot1 votes

i ban brand instead cuz with blitz i can just hide behind minions or black shield, black shield doesn't help against brand

blitzcrank is just too binary, lets just compare him with blitzcrank 2.0 thresh, his pull cant instantly pull you and it wont pull you across walls, this means two things. it is weaker if you hit the right target, but it is stronger if you grab that amumu you didnt wanted to pull. and thats just looking at both Qs in the vacumn, if you take into account the rest of the kit blitzcrank was clearly mean to be a fighter with attack speed and auto resets all set for dueling but his powerful Q make him a great support, unfortunately his Q takes all of his power budged making it so any missed Q is a big loss, and if blitzcrank team is behind sometimes pulling someone means nothing (your team can still not kill it)

That Q hitbox is like a callback to spaghetti code of seasons past.

Not in that it is actual spaghetti code, but in that it is buggy and has unexpected behavior.

Had a hook go all the way past my champ on my left while I was still moving right, and magically clip to me just yesterday. Tilting as fk.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

We should say the same to every champ who has hooks as well.

I remember one time a Rioter confirmed that it is "intended" and that it is a "lollipop effect", where the hitbox expands when reaching max range "so players and enemies feel good and accurate about it".

Not exact quoting because it was some comment buried in Reddit a few months ago, but I call complete bullshit on stuff like this.
