Why not make the baron/elder changes for competitive only?

Rexxiee··29 votes·1,664 views

Games are too short in solo q, which is the opposite in competitive play.

So why not give those changes to competitive only? Solo q does not need stronger baron or elder or any more win harder mechanics, solo q needs stronger turrets.

Solo q does not need to be ruined even further because of LCS.

I’d imagine it’s because while the metas are different, soloQ and Proplay are still supposed to be considered on a patch. If Riot just made a LCS only set of patches that had changed only effecting LCS, then it’d be a waste of time and resources.

The only time they really come close to doing this is Worlds, when they stick Worlds on one patch but still have patches for soloQ afterwards.

SoloQ has always suffered from proplay changes. Why stop now when people should be used to it and learn to adapt?

just because you adapt doesn't mean it's fun

i can adapt to games becoming 20 min because slaying baron becomes auto-win push to nexus, by playing an early game champ and a champ that can take baron quickly

doesn't mean i have fun to force myself to not play the champs i want

I never said it was fun. Changes suck most of the time.

And if you’re not having fun, you can choose to not play. After everything is said and done and you feel there is nothing else you can do, just take a break. League isn’t WoW where you’re paying a subscription to play. You can leave and get back in any time.

Sometimes I take breaks for weeks.

Ahristocats6 votes

i'm already not playing doing like 1 game per 1 week

and it STILL isn't a viable solution to fixe league

That wouldn't even be a solution.

oh okay so if they make the game unfun for casuals to do something for pro play, the casuals should just stop playing? Another great point. You truly are on the side of the little guy, I don't think I've mentioned that before.

Ralanr3 votes

I’m a casual and I still have fun. Lots of people still have fun with the game, just as lots of people aren’t having fun.

Remember, fun is subjective.

Flawless Fetus3 votes

Meh. The reason the game length has shortened so much, and they've spiked damage so hard is in order to appeal to casuals. Lol. You're pretending like the changes are pushing them away, but according to Riot that was the whole goal behind all of the changes - to bring more casuals in. As much as I loved the glory days of season 2-3-4 where the laning phase was one of the more important parts of the game and games routinely lasted around 40 mins, that's bad for your average casual gamer (or at least that's what Riot says)

Sp33d Zer01 votes

I mean, if I'm playing anything for casual fun; DBZ Figherz, League of legends, Slay the spire, Rainbow Six Siege, WoW, Gwent, etc. why would I play it if I didn't think it was fun.

Actually yes.

Casual = most of the player base. If casual stop playing after a change they feel was bad and made the game unfun, it tells riot that they did something wrong.

If everyone keep playing and a few people ( like 200 or even 500 out of ... dozens of million players ?), are complaining about the change on the board, it just tells riot that their change was good and they were right to do it.

No matter what change they'll do, you'll find a minority of people unhappy with it. Most people dont like changes because it disturbs their little habits.

So, go on, prove us the change was bad and stop playing to show it to riot. Posting here will not change anything. Except if you feel better because you got some place to whine.

bro did you really just tell people to quit playing...in a time where tons of competition or this game has emerged...should I take that as the official Riot stance "If you don't like what we do, play another game and don't give us any more money"

Ralanr1 votes

No, it’s my own opinion. Sometimes you need a break.

Seriously, as a Sona player my champion isn't even online by the time Baron spawns unless I get really fed, and with Sona's poor early game that really doesn't happen often. I hate the idea of even more games ending before I'm allowed to really do anything meaningful because Riot doesn't like longer pro games. These buffs are so hamfisted

so the group of people who are historically the least educated and least skilled in this game, therefore the people least equipped to be forced to adapt, THEY should be the ones who should be forced to change, huh? Great point.

Ralanr2 votes

Considering the game is always updating, adaptation is a part of the league community. It’s a never ending process, sometimes slow, sometimes fast.

MalrothDragonia2 votes

actually it's that league is, at its core, a competitive game. You balance such a game around optimal play. I've seen posts that basically say 'it's dumb that if I forget smite when I jungle I get dumpstered' but getting smite when you jungle is the optimal play. Being educated has nothing to do with skill, also Baron buff is basically unchanged up until 27:00 with the new changes. the buff to baron is only for games that go 40 min+, I don't think it's that hard of an adaptation. Would you rather only pros got updated champions and abilities? that's silly. Riot is making League the best competitive game that it can. You can of course choose not to play bc you're not good enough and it feels bad, or only play customs with your friends.

The Yetii Rider2 votes

Well, Riot spent an entire year releasing champions specifically for pro play (TahmKench Azir Kalista Bard RekSai ). Some of those champions, like Bard , have done alright in solo Q. Others, you simply do not have access to the power level of their kits because you lack coordination (especially Kalista ).

Because they want people to be able to watch competitive and think "I could do that".

They want the only barrier between the dramatic, high tension plays in the LCS and your standard Wood 17 pleb to be skill - if the pros get separate patches, people won't feel the same connection.

People will watch and say

"Well of course Baron was the right call there, it's stronger in the Pro game."

"Of course they rotated there, turrets are easier to take on the Pro patch."

That takes a lot of the appeal out of spectating competitive play.

What about those of us who play league but don't give 2 shits about the LCS because we'd rather be PLAYING a game than watching it?

At MSG in 2016 at World’s Semi-Finals the reporters there interviewed me for Time Mag the cool thing was me, a pleb, got to explain to people how to play the game.

Imagine if basketball was a different sport for the NBA than it is for a pickup game.

If football was different for the NFL only.

One of the things that is great about sports is that it’s still the same sport regardless of the skill level.

So yeah, pro sports are "balanced" around the highest level players, IE the pro team that has the most money, that's why I don't watch them either. When the top team can spend as much on talent as the bottom 10 teams combined, yeah, that's not a sport, that's a business.

I mean... Salary cap?

Have you not heard of or watched Moneyball? I mean those are concepts that negate your point.

Also sure it’s a business but life is a business bud, I try harder at work so my boss will “balance” the team around me. Because that team is balanced around me I require more incentive to stay, because of that I have a nice truck/house/toys. Life is business

What your asking for is a 3 point line 1/2 the distance as the NBA’s and your point is “Well fuck the nba”?

I think Boba’s point is, Riot wants you to feel that satisfaction that even though your Wood17 you too can make that over the wall Baron steal at 41 mins that wins your team the game just like Apollo did. Could you compare the 1/2 distance game winning 3 pointer to hitting that same exact shot at regulation distance?

Did you play league in 2016? MF support...

How about this week? Skarner OTP?

There is a reason people idolize pros, they want to be as good as them, and if not to at least pretend it... You can’t even pretend if it’s a different game entierely. It might take you 55 blast cones over the wall into the baron pit, that 1 time you steal that shit. You’ll be like “Are you kidding me, Cavesloth steals the baron and the crowd goes wild, ahhhhhh”

Yeah I watched Moneyball, and I also watched at the end where it said he sold out and now everyone has that formula. Paying attention is OP.

So the Yankees have the same advantage they've always had, more money. That's why when asked who I root for, I say whoever is playing the Yankees.

As for watching league pros, even if I had the time to waste watching it, I probably still wouldn't. For the same reason I'd rather PLAY basketball, baseball or any other sport than watch them even though I suck at them. Because its far more fun to play than watch.

And to be clear, I'm not saying that making separate game for the pros is good idea, I'm just tired of them making stupid changes to try to make the LCS watchable by making more "flashy" and "fast paced", and it ends up making it LESS watchable because it makes the LCS players play even safer and slower, and they DO NOT LEARN FROM IT. As someone who doesn't even watch the damn thing, there is nothing more infuriated than them making stupid changes that any logical being will say "this will make LCS games take more time, be more boring and less watchable" and the rest of us get screwed for it.

Basically the second elder or at 40 min baron the game will end by brute force thanks to an exaggerated buff. Games aren't allowed to last that long, it's the deadline according to riot.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

Well, how many games drags to 45min anyway ?

RainbowIcee1 votes

The good ones, but now they'll be cut short because if a game makes it that long the team with a fast baron raid group will win. The damage in the game is far too high. They should buff baron if they are gonna buff his buff.

xelaker1 votes

we get the qol changes that lcs gets like a year later lol. remember how long it was before we had 10 bans?

Lord of Math1 votes

If soloQ games are too short, then the games will not go long enough to get multiple Elders or Barons on each team.

Because having a separate balance cycle for pro play is a terrible idea.

Two seperate balance teams, one for pro and one for solo queue, is expensive. The two systems would just develop into their own metas, completely different from one another. Pro's won't be able to scrim each other. Casuals won't even be watching the same game they play.

Yeah because obviously riot cant afford it, they are a small indie company after all!

If any change means the game is ruined for you then do yourself a favour and just quit now, because Riot isn't gonna stop, no matter how much you complain and cry and make ridiculous suggestions.
