I'm a Vel'koz Main

What is your skill order?

Few times I played Vel'Koz I defaulted with Q first, seemed the efficient spell. Then I played against one which started W level 1 and dumped both charges on me and my minions to push his lane and damage me while proc'ing his passive. That's annoying.

I prefer W in the mid lane, with a straight CDR rush. I take Q in the bottom lane with a mana regen, and vision rush.

1. The only poke support I have difficulty against is Sona. She can trade harder, and can sustain longer. If you survive her early you'll get a better mid/late game.

2. I'll use the three most common Braum/Leona/Thresh. Voli/Shen which sometimes show up go in your favor.

When against Braum I tend to give him very little respect. I constantly trade AA's, and spells as I'll always trade out on top. Just be careful with his passive as that'll give him a strong moment of engage potential. Also care with your ult as he can easily interrupt it, or block damage done to himself.

Leona has a weak level one and you need to punish her for this. Be up in her face, and try to zone the enemy ADC from farm. If you hit lvl 2 first in this lane you should straight up win. If she starts to get ahead keep the lane bushes warded, and tell your ADC to play safe. Stay at max range and slowly poke her down. Only engage when either her, or her ADC drop below half HP. If you're ahead just walk over them, and if Leona jumps on your ADC focus their ADC. If both ADC's end up stunned you'll come out on top.

Thresh is a very dangerous lane to play. Both of you snowball extremely hard if played correctly. This is a skill matchup. Learn to dodge hooks and you'll come out on top, but eat them and you'll feed.

3. lvl 2, lvl 3, lvl 6, lvl 11, lvl 16 are his major powerspikes in the support role. Vel'koz gains strength the longer the game goes on. If you lose the lane you can still come back. The most important thing about Vel support is you want experience hard. If you start losing out on experience you'll fall off hard.

4. If you lose lane hard, you'll be pretty screwed. If you're a few levels, and around 1k gold behind the other support you'll have a tough time clawing back up. Just play smart, and look for ults. One Vel ult can change the tide of the game.

5. The number one thing that ticks me off is when ADC's don't understand when the right time to trade is. When playing a poke support you begin to see opportune times to trade in the bot lane, and some ADC's seem to ignore it. Best way to deal with this is tell them to follow your pings most ADC's will follow their support.

I really don't like a Sona matchup due to how difficult it makes his early game. I also don't like blitz due to outside of lane pressure. Blitz just keeps me on edge, and stressed out the entire game. Zilean can also be annoying due to how his champion is designed. Other than that I like the matchups.

As mid Vel your priority should be wave clearing first. With a clear wave you should be able to harass them with Q's. If you're having difficulty landing your Q, don't shoot it straight at them. Aim it at an angle that can cover everywhere they can step (this takes practice to learn, but it comes only with practice). Your Q should only ever be aimed at them if they're chasing (They'll have to dodge and lose ground, or eat the slow and lose even more ground), or if they seem to not care about dodging Q's. If your Q hits combo in on them (as long as they aren't an assassin) you'll likely 100-0 them at lvl 6. If you're against an assassin focus solely on wave clearing and then max range poke. If they drop low on HP, or waste their mobility, combo in on them. You must give assassins respect, but don't allow them to stop you from getting farm. If they attempt to stand by your caster minions throw Q's and W's at them, and even sometimes ult. Your ult used early can get them low enough for you safely to farm or roam.
