I've found out what gold players fail to do.

I've taken a break from rank as I started to become toxic after I hit gold IV. My flat mechanical skill with my main Velkoz didn't seem like it was making me win games anymore. Of course like any solo queue player after games I blamed it on my teammates instead of myself. After so many games I gave up for a bit, and went to play other games. Upon coming back after watching diamond+ streams, and taking a break I finally found out what I was doing wrong, and what my teammates were doing wrong.

  1. If you're playing as support/Jungle, or extremely fed always take control of your team. Every team needs a shot caller, and if it requires 15 pings for your team to follow than spam those pings. Make sure if you're making a call that it has logical backing. Before calling a dragon call ask yourself why you're calling it. If an enemy just died and the four of you are relatively healthy go take that 7-8 minute drag.

  2. If you see people chasing kills instead of taking an objective. Run towards the objective, spam ping it, and back ping them. If you've been leading the team so far they should listen with relative ease. People are more willing to follow if you're playing well (Damn human psyche). Objectives rank as this now Inhib>Baron>InhibTower>Dragon>OtherTower.

I've won my last 7 games in this new mindset, and have even climbed a rank. Last time I played I was about to drop back to gold V. Hope these tips help for people stuck in low gold with me :D.

This isn't really just Gold. This is everyone. People tunnel in Challenger, just a lot less frequently.

{quoted} 15 pings for your team to follow than spam those pings.

People like you are the reason I play with pings muted every game.

Dragon isnt always under inhib tower or baron if you ask me

SexyTaylorSwift12/30/2014, 2:13:52 AM2 votes

These things don't work for me. I spam ping and get reported for spamming. People are just dicks and don't listen to people that know what they are doing :/

Oh my god Inhib>Baron>InhibTower>Dragon>OtherTower. This should be written in the bible. SOOOOO many times I've pushed mid and then my entire team leaves to go get dragon instead of taking down inhibitor turret.. I actually lost my last game because a stupid Rek'Sai went drag instead of invading their base.

I think it's just a placebo. You will have loss streak soon

if someone pings 15 times i usually do the opposite of what they were intending me to do, so annoying...

Gold III-I seems to be that butter zone where you realize that none of what made you good in silver is good at all, that you have to essentially learn the game again. I hated that T_T

I always try and do this, I end up usually getting flamed when I don't follow my team through the jungle to chase down 1 or 2 enemy champs because im going after their turrets. I always end up having to say kills don't win the game objectives do. There have been so many games that we were way down kills but because my team actually went for objectives we won the game. Sure kills get you the gold you need for items but you are already ahead why continue to chase them with the whole team instead of taking a turret or 2.

I know my opinion might not mean to much because im only in silver 5 with 14 wins, but thats because I know i need to perfect my game before I go into more ranked games, so I dont ruin the players game who is in Silver 5 with over 100 wins.

I'm actually surprised they haven't forced you to change your summoner name ^^;;

I more often than not just play with my friends in non-ranked environments, so it doesn't apply that much, but I often try to suggest courses of action rather than forcing the issue. Then again, I'm really not the leading type to begin with :p

Just as an aside... I pay attention to a ping if someone pings once or at most twice. If a person spam pings, I ignore them and move on with life.

Well done!

Also in my experience:

Bronze: Either not even trying to play a MOBA as a MOBA, or special cases. Silver: Is playing the game, but fails to understand at least 25% of the many core mechanics, either micro or macro. Gold: A basic understanding of most all aspects of the game. Plat: Basic or near competence at most all aspects of the game. Diamond: What can actually be called "good" in the sense that they go above and beyond competence. Challenger: I'd like to assume it's just 10 Bjergsens running around like Bjergsens every match.

TBH I think if Riot put some basic micro/macro tips in the loading screen instead of "Blitz grabs you with his right hand" 90% of silver would be in gold (in skill level, since gold is only the top 10%) because there are just so many aspects of this game you'll never learn just by playing.

dragon ranking is pretty dependant on what's going on. 1st and 5th are HIGHLY important. 3rd is generally good but not as important. while 2nd and 4th are situational. If you have a comp that is winning fights but you don't have the damage to take towers. (perhaps your adc is behind and you are mostly tanks/ap) or you have a split pusher/want to finish the game then 2nd dragon can make a big difference. I really only see 4th dragon as a way to waveclear if you are being sieged or if you want to siege. and to be honest you shouldn't have 4 dragons if you are being sieged (which is why it was better at 2nd) unless the enemy is throwing, but it does help against a baroned team.

5th dragon though is more important that baron. If you get 5th drag and the enemy gets baron then you will most likely have comparable stats but you will have more movespeed and you can waveclear the baroned minions thanks to 4th drag and the true damage

100%.

I've been playing for a long time (since beta) and just made it to Plat this last season. I succeed largely because of my teamwork and shot calling, not because I always win lanes or make incredible plays. There are a lot of ways to win!

Curling Veigar12/31/2014, 2:52:56 AM1 votes

As Veigar, I got diamond by winning lane every game, roaming bot, killing somone, and getting drag. snowballed bot = gg

Ginjavitis12/30/2014, 12:04:09 AM1 votes

Doesn't really help...in this community if they want kills they will dive and die for it, if they want baron they will let you splitpush to nexus for it. No one wants to listen lol...I recently started playing LAN and you'd be surprised how easy it is to solo carry by getting the udyr on your team to run while you push and the enemy team chases him for a kill...took 4 turrets in one go with azir like that. The spam ping is a double-edged sword yes it alerts, but people willing to listen will already be listening/following while the ones who don;t listen will begin to rage at it. Last, i think your objectives are slightly skewed--- nexus(i have lost many games by people baroning instead of killing this...) >Inhib (pressure) >baron >inhib turrets >drag=inner turrets >outer turrets

SecretAgentHulk12/30/2014, 12:14:42 AM1 votes

Yep. As a support main, one of the things I keep getting better at is calling the shots, and it and counterpicks are probably still the areas I need the most work on.

freeformline12/30/2014, 2:09:40 AM1 votes

That, and ask for help warding. If you can civilly convince everyone on your team to place a pink ward or two throughout the game, you'll have a much easier time of it.

MidEvilKnight3k12/30/2014, 4:11:38 AM1 votes

I would say you should probably use 3 pings max in one place so that they know you are serious and have no chance of missing it, any more than that and they will probably get mad and ignore all future pings.

deadlychuck12/30/2014, 5:00:16 AM1 votes

This is how i carried as zyra support into gold for season 3. I just ran around CCed people and called what to do and when to do it.

Spacesuit Spiff12/30/2014, 5:41:55 AM1 votes

Nexus > Inhib AND Inhib turret > Baron > Inhib OR Inhib Turret > All

You'll also need a good sense of what it's possible to accomplish in soloq in terms of teamwork. If your team is in a lane, for fucks sake don't try to herd them to another lane because there'll be 1/2 people that stay and die pointlessly. Mostly just take objectives one at a time and make sure you herd your team to the objectives properly.

Zamiake12/30/2014, 6:32:37 AM1 votes

This is exactly why my teams lose to much when im playing. When i make calls people act like they know better and ignore calls. If a support is calling for something ot happen you need to do it immediently. They have the time and most likely all the information needed to make an informed call or emergency play. Its practically their role to insure the team is getting what they need to win. So when u get into a match and ur support calls for something. Remember they are trying to help you win therefore let them make your calls for you and just listen

Im Andru12/30/2014, 7:57:36 AM1 votes

The problem I face is that my team gets mad if I spam the pings and ignores them out of spite, but if I don't spam them they just ignore them. I've also found that most of the people in the gold 5 elo don't want to win, they just want kills.
