When to buy Ruby Sightstone?

So most supports buy sightstone as one of their early items. I'm just wondering, when is it appropriate to upgrade it to a ruby sightstone? Like, under what circumstances would that be a strong buy? Thanks.

Supposing you're playing support, I would hold off Ruby Sightstone for items that give me either CASH or improve my abilities of harass or sustain.

I find that the regular Sightstone does the job perfectly and is incredibly gold efficient. I hardly ever come across an event where Ruby is needed.

Speaking of events, Ruby would be great if you're dealing with a lot of harassment and need that extra tinge of health to stun or save.

The only time I'd see myself buying it is if the team actively flushes out my wards, like, a lot.

Until then, use the 800 gold to invest in something else

I buy it as the very last item If I need more hp i can go randuins/sunfire/aegis/righteous glory/face of the mountain/ etc etc

The only thing RUBY over regular sightstone offers now is additional hp. When there was a cap on wards placed at a time from the original, it offered a +1 to that, but as they removed that, there's only really the added.. 180? I think.. nope, sorry, 250 hp. The extra gold spent on that could really be used for something (or a piece of something) more gold efficient at this time.

Most support games I don't even finish it. I'd sooner get extra pinks or elixirs than buy it. If, for some reason, I'm like scrooge mcduck and swimming in gold, I might finish it. If I remember.

I just don't feel like it offers enough benefits for the gold you're spending to make it worth your while.

I pretty much never finish it. The only situation I can think of where upgrading sightstone is viable over buying / saving for other items is if you're already fully built.

i buy it like really really late game for maybe the extra 400 health? tbh I don't really need it anyways. Buy it when you have nothing to buy in the store. lol

When Baron is a strongly contested objective. That extra ward means that you don't need to back as often and can stick around the team much longer.

So... like Lv 16+, when either team is capable of winning a fight at Baron. Or a little bit earlier if the battle for vision is becoming harder.

Otherwise, spend your gold on other things.

Generally I save Ruby Sightstone for once I get every important item. Ruby Sightstone is really not a high priority UNLESS you want "extra" survivability (+250 HP).

While most of these posts are right to describe it as a luxury item, the other situation you buy it is when a lot of other roles would buy elixirs - when you need a small extra boost to combat effectiveness right now and can't afford anything else, and the game will probably be decided in the next few minutes. You'll often see a lot of ruby sightstones pop up when there's going to be tense standoffs around baron/dragon in the mid to lategame, both because the extra ward is important and for the immediate small increase in survivability.

I finish it last since it only offers health and 1 more ward. You'll get more value upgrading your other slots with your limited cash.

Treat Ruby Sightstone like a luxury item: Buy it when you don't have much else to buy and you'd like that extra charge, but otherwise hold off on it if there's something smarter to buy.
