Veigar - 5.14 - The Hidden Boss of Mid lane - Veigar - Guide for League of Legends on LolKing

Hey guys I made a Veigar guide its a little shallow right now but I plan to update it based on user comments and questions either from lolking or from here. If you have any match up questions comments, or advice to improve the guide in any way I will try to keep it updated consistently. Some background on me, I'm fairly analytical, I love Veigar and I was Diamond 5 last season.

I also prefer Unholy Grail over item 3165

Good stuff though.

Hi, I saw this just posted up and I could not resist to check out to see how other people are playing my favorite tiny master of evil. Just as background, I have been a Veigar main since just after the start of season 1. He has always intrigued me with his play style, and with the changes to his kit I was more than excited.

To start I noticed a few things that might help out somewhat when building, leveling, and structuring him. I was refreshed to see you shooting for max cdr. With the changes to him, he works VERY well getting those cds as low as possible. I noticed on your masteries you opted out of the last point in cdr. I know it is not by much, but it could continue to shave his cds down to where you want them. Between my runes and masteries I end up with 20% cdr all by itself so that my in game build has an extra slot opened up for health and defense. I also noticed the lucidity boots in the build. I have tested out lucidity a couple of months ago and found that if you opt out of the sorc shoes and they obtain any form of mr, it really hurts your early game ability to burst and trade.

For the Morrellonomicon, I like having the extra 20 ap early on and if I am going against someone who can sustain. Most of the time though I prefer the Athenes due to its ability to solve both your mana problems and cdr while still giving you decent strength and mr to shave dmg. The mana font ability stacking with Veigars passive in the mid game is VERY nice for prolonged sieges or teamfights.

On the ability progression, I was happy to see you already knew to level up the stun second (it seems odd for people to choose it over lower cd and higher burst on W). You can actually stop leveling it at about rank 4 and start putting points into W at that point to obtain the lower cds and higher base dmg. with just 4 points you still have a 2.25 sec stun which is more than enough to assist in team fights and get the cd lower to spam more often.

One last thing for now would be about Rod of Ages. I have just recently started putting it into my build and rushing it with the changes to ap items. Since the meta is so tank focused, I liked the idea of adding it back in with the boosts they gave it. So far I have found that it keeps me from being bursted by little nasty people like fizz and lux. The early mana also strengthens your pool to cast more spells frequently. Lets not forget about the awesome healing and regen of catalyst in early laning as well. you could try that out and see how you like it if you want.

Well that is about it for now. I am very happy to see someone working on playing him. I hope that I did not ramble on too long for you, and that you don't think that I am bashing your build. Just wanted to put in some of my years of playing him and see what you thought about it.

Some things, I agree largely with your guide, as it is similar to my own personal build for Veigar.

I run Flash/Barrier (I can't tell you how many kills I've gotten under tower because the enemy forgot I had barrier and so they aggressively flash ignite me expecting to kill me but then they don't and they get stuck)

Runes are pretty much Identical

Masteries: I'd personally drop spell blade and put that point into sorcery. that'd give you that last 1% for CDR with your Lucidity boots to give you a full 40% CDR. Other than that, masteries look good.

Items: I personally prefer Grail over Nomicon when I'm facing AP matchups. The slight boost in MR along with scaling MR/level glyphs help out SO much. Tear against AD matchups is also a choice if I need the shield, and eventual Frozen Heart (to make up for the loss of Nomicon in the build) mean that I get about 170 AP from Seraph's.

Overall, great guide. Situational items are solid as is the explination for them.

After trying out scaling cdr blues on PBE for various champions I'm really loving them, I think it might be worth it to take 9 of those over MR in some match ups and get pen boots. You would still be down 7% cdr or so until level 18 but blue buff cancels that out and you would deal more damage.

Adding matchups as I encounter them havent had a lot of time to play recently but I will say Veigar has a tough time vs Riven

Bit of a late post but have you tried this build? item 3020 item 3174 item 3089 item 3135 item 3110 item 3102

Max CDR, good tankiness, unlimited mana and decent AP. Only thing is you'll need to get good AP stacks in lane to have enough damage later on, but if you manage that then this build is pretty beastly late game.
