Think about it for a second. Kalista has 3 abilities with which she can proc the shield. One is her super thin spear, which isn't too hard to dodge. One is her ult. And the third is her e. If you can avoid being hit by her spears, then your shield will block her e for you no matter how high she stacks it. And the magic resist will even help dealing with her w.

Of course you'll need to watch out for procs from supports and teammates, so another item may be better depending on the situation.
