how do you play vs yasuo as jax?

I feel like its jax's worst match up bar none. can't get to cs. you pretty much have to stay back i got destroyed... granted i was matched up against a diamond 2 yasuo and i had like 5 flat armor from runes. if i could replay it i'd of gone cloth 5 and vamp scepter on first back and stay behind turret as much as possible.

his 3rd q is like a tf card he can hold it long so he just waits for you to go for cs and is sure to land it. even if you do wait it out you miss cs. he has a 175 auto range and his q has such good poke.

That should be a pretty easy matchup for Jax. You have Counterstrike to dodge a large portion of his damage, Yasuo is squishy, and none of your abilities are blocked by wind wall.

Okay, just looked at the game and I see several issues.

  1. You started Doran's Blade instead of Doran's Shield or Cloth5. Jax needs some levels and farm to really be useful and your start left you with very little sustain for laning.
  2. I see that you bought four health potions are 2:57. This likely means that you either did a jungle camp at level 1 (in which case you took about 20-30 seconds too long and missed a lot of experience) or you got pushed out of lane really early as a result of picking unfavourable fights.
  3. You rushed Boots of Speed and Tear of the Goddess instead of any useful combat stats. Yasuo had an item advantage and Ignite, so you had no chance of beating him in a fight without jungle help or a massive mistake on Yasuo's part.
  4. You started building Bilgewater Cutlass for the AD and sustain, but by that point in the game you were too far behind to outsustain Yasuo's damage, since he could just all-in you can kill you.
  5. You appear to have distributed you skill points oddly, taking an early second level in E and then maxing Q. Against most melee matchups, you typically want to max W on Jax.
  6. Do not build Tear of the Goddess on Jax. While Muramana can give a lot of burst damage (since Q, W, and R are all single-target spells), Jax typically doesn't need that much mana and using the toggle will drain your mana horribly fast.
  7. Your mastery page was alright, but I would recommend taking the Attack Damage masteries either instead of or in addition to the Ability Power masteries. If you want to see an example of the page, you can check the mastery pages "[Lane] Hybrid Offensive" or "[Lane] AD Def" on my profile.
  8. Your rune page is pretty bad. You have a large distribution of stats, which means that the bonus to each stat is pretty inconsequential. I would recommend starting with a simple +15AD, +9Armor, +12MR rune page until you can afford better runes.

If you want some suggestions as to how you can improve your play:

  • Start either Doran's Shield/Blade and do a jungle camp at level 1 or start Cloth5
  • Focus on farming early game, though you can harass Yasuo with the occasionally AA+W
  • Max W for trading and mixed damage.
  • If you have stayed even in lane, try and get Sheen on your first back; if not, get Phage components. Sheen is great for improving your burst trades.

When you have Sheen and your ultimate, ready an ultimate proc on minions. Then Q onto Yasuo and hit him with W+R(Passive)+Spellblade for a large burst of damage. If he tries to return damage, just use Counterstrike and beat his face in. Otherwise, continue harassing him until you can kill him.

I would recommend rushing either Blade of the Ruined King or Trinity Force on Jax in most matchups. Ninja Tabi would have been a good purchase in that matchup as well, since it reduces the damage from Yasuo's autoattacks and Q by 10% in addition to the armor. After your two main damage items, you typically want to build defenses (i.e. Randuin's Omen, Banshee's Veil) to help you survive teamfights.

Just get level 2 or 3 and run straight into Yasuo's face, over and over, enjoy free exp and gold pre lvl 6.

Then be careful for his nado-R after 6 then you're cool.

no don't look at my game ... i tilted, deserved to get reported that game. Got too frustrated and stopped caring early, felt like nothing i could do. I Pretty much did everything wrong you can think of. So i know what i shouldn't of done. But I think it was a sort of vicious circle because he could harass me so much i took it the wrong way and tilted instead of trying to see what best recoursive action i could take to bandage the situation. i mean we wouldn't have won anyways all lanes lost. but had my other lanes done okay i would feel pretty bad.

honestly the game was over before half those items. i was looking to try a build were i wasn't looking to fight him just farm under tower. only fight in favorable instances. was acutally going for archangel staff. it works fine in 3v3 but thats different and not likely vs diamond players XD. its a strong build come late but not optimal build path. i do think tear is okay on jax. lets say you take triforce out of the equation. because you want to try something different.

Honest what you wrote is nice on paper but alot harder to do in game. also lets assume we don't do a camp lvl 1. Like i get how jax works. thing is with his shield being up so often it isn't as easy as it sounds.

i guess your right. it wont be easy but you can manage if you plan ahead. its sort of like playing vs renekton/ strong early harass poke. need to survive until 6 and not tilt like i did feeling like i couldn't do anything.

Start Crystalline Flask 3 HP Potions, rush Phage or (ideally) Sheen. Put a point in (E) Counter Strike at Level 1, use it only defensive, wait for level 2 (where you level either Q or W, doesn't matter too much) or 3 to engage on him, and make sure his 3rd Q proc is not available during an engage. Save your ward for Leap Strike in case of a jungler or if you're getting all-in'd after losing trades (which should not happen provided you get Counter Strike off properly).

Yasuo is actually one of Jax's easiest toplane matchups, you straight up lost in a matchup where Jax is a solid counterpick (which goes to show that counterpicks mean almost nothing if you are (1) not good at the champion and/or (2) the other person is skilled at their respective champion by comparison). Most likely he was able to avoid your E entirely, out-CS and trade you without counterplay, and you are most likely not an experienced Jax nor a better player than this Diamond Yasuo, so it made it a relative cake-walk for him to abuse you.

In order to outplay Yasuo properly, you have to focus on where the minion wave is, and when and where he will most likely use E to make an escape and trade. If the wave is clumped together, it's more difficult for him to get favorable trades or scraps, whereas if they're spread out in a line, it's simple for him to dash up to you, Q + auto, and then E away for free.

Your runes/masteries were pretty bad also. Run flat ad marks/quints armor seals mr glyphs and go 21/9/0 going on the ad side not ap. If you are gonna lane i would start flask, if you are gonna start a camp i would start d blade. As max vs a yasuo I would go E W Q max w then q then e and get ult at 6 11 16. Remember that your w is an Auto reset so try to auto then w. Depending on if i was winning or losing the lane i would go phage/sheen or tabis.

bruisers should shit on yasuo. he's too squishy and can't handle the sustained damage so you should be able to just bully the shit out of him.
