If you shield a jinx as she is in the cast animation for ulting but then the shield goes off jinx before the rocket hits will you get the bonus damage or is it janas shield has to be on her when the ult hits and it doesnt matter about being on her during cast animation?
The Janna shield must be on her as the ult hits.
Most abilities calculate the damage when the ability hits rather then when it was cast.

i was wondering the same for Varus Q....can i shield while he's charging so he gets the bonus from the shield or do i have to shield before he press q?
When the ability hits. This is also the case for auto attacks.
A neat trick for Nami support: Wait for your adc's auto attack to be midair to the enemy to then use your E on your ally. The bubble will hit and the enemy wont really expect the extra damage + slow.
