Tier 3 Runes vs 0 Runes 1v1 contest.

Can anybody explain the impact of Tier 3 Runes on a champion? Is it significant? Let's say you had two identical champions going 1v1 and the first had no runes and 10-15 masteries, the second had full set of tier 3 runes and full set of masteries. Assuming similar skill level, could the first champ beat the fully built champion in a 1v1?

Runes make more of a difference in the early game/laning phase, unless they are scaling runes. Basically, the champ with runes would likely come out with better farm and win lane.

Assume I'm an AP Caster and I start with Magic Pen Marks, Mana Regen Seals, CDR Glphys, and AP Quints. I'd litterally be better than my non-marked counterpart in every single way, especially at the start. I could stay in lane longer, I could cast more spells, and the spells I did cast would hurt more.

Late game, the stats may fall off, but the question is how big would the gap be before the runes fell off?

So it would pretty much be no contest?

Yes, the more powerful champion would win in direct fights. However, it mostly depends on the skill level. In bronze games at equal skill, this usually means that both of them die a lot, while if a pro accidentally took off runes/masteries in an LCS, they'd probably be around 30-40 cs behind by the 15 minute mark, but 0 deaths except by ganks/teamfights. It would probably matter a bit more bot lane due to there being two people to abuse the mistake rather than one.

Direct 1v1 full on fights are extraordinarily rare in the early game, so they shouldn't be the primary judge of what happens, even if it is where runes/masteries matter the most.

I think it was hotshotgg, who once accidentally forgot runes against tsm. they won the game lol

Lacking runes/masteries is not a GUARANTEE of a losing situation... But it makes it more likely.

And yes, they do make a difference. Think of it this way; if you take 9 flat AD reds, 9 flat HP yellows, and just two lifesteal quints... You've got yourself the equivalent to (slightly better than; up 2 HP and 1.55 AD) a Doran's Blade. And that still leaves your blues and one quint. To say NOTHING of Masteries.

That's how I prefer to think of the difference the right/wrong pages make; Your rune page ALONE can make a bigger difference than whether you buy any starting items at all!

Wow. So I am justifiably afraid to enter PvP blind pick or team builder on the rift as a level 13 player with only a few tier 2 runes. I can really tell when I get a level 30 well built player whacking at me vs. someone at my own level. It really hurts even from level 1! My health just melts away like butter. I feel that I am playing at a handicap from the word go. In order to avoid this I thought I could improve my skill by practicing in custom games but I really need to level up so I can buy Tier 3 runes. What should I do when I am playing against these over powering champs in the mean time?

Sit back and farm. Hug tower, and whatever you do, DON'T TRY TO TRADE! If you try to trade auto attacks or spells you will immediately be set behind. A good solution would be to play champions with long aa range like Annie or Caitlyn.

Good advice. From what I understand, I cannot see the real level of the other players until the end of the game. Is there? I would like to know when I am up against these players before they whack the bleep outa me.

To rephrase the question: how many skillshots would the runed player have to miss before the fight became even?

I think the answer is something like 2-3 over the first 5 minutes.

A complete rune page will give anywhere between 500-1300 or so worth of stats (typical starting rune page for adc/jungle for ex)

9.6 AD : equivalent to a longsword @ 360G
12.5 AS : going by dagger pricing 375G
12.5 MR : going by NMM 250G or CDR @ 395G worth of stats
10 Armor: going by Cloth Armor 200G

= 1185 Gold worth of stats at start of game NOT taking masteries into account

This means that without even choosing the most efficient runes gold/stat wise the Summoner with the MOST experience is given the equivalent of an early game triple kill, including first blood If the player is even remotely competent that advantage will dominate his opponent so completely the only options will be to cower (and get raged at by team mates) or to get killed (and get raged at by team mates)

It's the only situation that is actually mitigated by smurfs as sometimes there are champs on the team that are skilled enough to still win or NOT lose under heavy disadvantage... however you likely would get matched up against level 30's because of those same smurfs boosting the mmr rating of the team astronomically.

It's no different than starting out with a cloth armor, null manlte, and a longsword vs nothing
