I need help learning to roam.

This seems like a classic bronze quote,but whenever im doing good my other (bot) lane seems to feed a lot. i have said to myself that i'd try to roam more,but i can't seem to do so right now,maybe i need a better champion or im just flat out bad at it. Can anyone teach me when or how to do this correctly?

Don't Roam if your lane isn't pushed; you enable your mirror laner to push you and take MID while you're helping a losing bot.
Don't Roam if bot just died - those low bot laners look tempting, but unless you have high mobility and can guarantee you'll a) make it to bot lane before they base. b) won't be followed by your enemy mid laner and subsequently walk into a 3 or 4v1 if their junglers is there.
Don't Roam if you don't have vision.
