Or you could go ap with rod of ages or start with 1 doran ring early. Go 21/9 and time your ult well? Or go 9/21 and peel all day
Ward The Sky1 votesI've been wanting to play alistar jungle again, but look at the main reason why he was played there back in the day. The endless ganks and map pressure he brings from them. If you do decide to try him, remember you are a heavy ganker. The nerfs to gold/5 items really destroyed the roaming jungler tanks, but they might still be viable picks if one is good with them. Just experiment in team builder.

I used to play him quite a lot, and I felt that was the best way to play him since it gives more reliable burst and Cinderhulk's damage benefits from mpen. By no means was his clear god like. Xin Zhao and Rengar, both semi-farming junglers, clear better and faster with more health at the end of it. Alistar's clears are slow, but he won't fall behind now. If he can't gank, he has the option of farming. I think this is a healthy change.
I did try AD Alistar in the jungle with Cinderhulk. It took him a long time to reach any meaningful powerspike, even while ahead. He cleared relatively the same speed.
LilxPaprika1 votesWhat if you try a bit of both worlds. Maybe get 1 doran ring, and hybrid pen marks. Sell doran mid to late game. Itll pay itself back just in mana pots. And will give you enough DMG during banks until you could finish triforce.

Blue Collar Bear1 votesTaking hybrid pen marks reduces your clear speed, since Alistar jungle mostly deals damage in the form of autos. Attack speed marks and quints are a must. He doesn't have any abilities that scale off of AD, so the armor pen is more or less wasted since attack speed will deal more damage. Monsters have no magic resistance, so the mpen is wasted. Doran's Ring delays your build in the jungle too much to take it early, since you want to rush your Cinderhulk immediately for better clear. I also never have to buy pots as jungle Alistar.
If you were to go laning Alistar, that would be the go-to rune for burst damage.
You can still W auto combo, if you Headbutt them into a wall!

so played in team builder they didn't noticed i selected jungle until game started. i definetly picked jungle tho they probably had any role in player search for support.
ended up going double jungle and rekt them.
funny enough i didnt get cinderhulk until after doran ring/sheen, mostly because i want roam a bit since wasnt enough jungle to clear.
it worked out really well. had some mpen runes to give me some burst.
also got scaling mana regen runes. and it saved me twice with just barely enough to press e. tbh sure i could work around with less mana but it really opens up your options i find when you have a bit extra. if i leave a fight i can stay a wait on the sidelines if i have enough to knock them away to save a team mate...
wait wut lolololol i had energy runes that game XDXDXDXD 3 X +0.064 Energy regen/5 sec per level (+1.15 at champion level 18)
maybe i did select support in team builder too after all ;P
