Or you could go ap with rod of ages or start with 1 doran ring early. Go 21/9 and time your ult well? Or go 9/21 and peel all day
I've been wanting to play alistar jungle again, but look at the main reason why he was played there back in the day. The endless ganks and map pressure he brings from them. If you do decide to try him, remember you are a heavy ganker. The nerfs to gold/5 items really destroyed the roaming jungler tanks, but they might still be viable picks if one is good with them. Just experiment in team builder.

I played a game as ap alistar jungle. I used to play him quite a lot, and I felt that was the best way to play him since it gives more reliable burst and Cinderhulk's damage benefits from mpen. By no means was his clear god like. Xin Zhao and Rengar, both semi-farming junglers, clear better and faster with more health at the end of it. Alistar's clears are slow, but he won't fall behind now. If he can't gank, he has the option of farming. I think this is a healthy change.
I did try AD Alistar in the jungle with Cinderhulk. It took him a long time to reach any meaningful powerspike, even while ahead. He cleared relatively the same speed.
