Being 1st for the first several levels = ultimately losing?

It's like I'm first every game, for what seems like 5-6 rounds, if not more, and then suddenly my score gets hard nuked because champ select doesn't provide with any benefit. The first 2 people get attack speed items which ultimately wins them game because you can't even counter it.
