Seriously. At the very least, every single mob who doesn't drop an item should drop 1 gold.

MauriceqH1 votes

?? Did you even read the title ?

Durzaka12 votes

1 gold PER mob.

That means the first round of PvE would have 9 gold total if you dont get an item.

Prozzak6 votes

I mean the outcome of this would be the same then. If they get one item, you get no items you still only end up one gold ahead. Its no different.

The one gold is supposed to be a minor consolation for no item, it isn't supposed to be equal.

Fair point.

The problem then happens that there's no consolation. It's a pity-prize.

And the difference between 1 gold and 1 item is not even funny.

And the difference between 1 gold and no items is noticeable. I don't get how people don't get it. It isn't like they removed items to put in the gold option. It went from you getting no item to you getting gold at least. That is measurably better.

it was already in place that everyone would receive items but they changed it for some reason after basically saying that everyone would have an item from the boxes early on in the PBE. The people who do get items still have a massive advantage over the guys who get gold because items are worth way more and completed items add an effect to the champion to amplify their dmg/survivability by a TON.

So if you get 0 items you would have 9 gold

but the other guy 8 gold and 1 Item? Or 7 Gold and 2 items?

That would change nothing xD Would be exactly the same like now.

played my first ranked today, not a single mob dropped an item, gave me a bunch of gold which undoubtedly led me to have a stronger early game than everyone else and then i was last pick on the first 3 carousels, where there were expensive champs with good items for all the people who already had items from PVE and now they get expensive champs which makes all the gold i received earlier less meaningful AND they have items, then after 3 carousels everyone uses their items to destroy me, 4th carousel rolls around, nothing but armor and MR and no expensive champs on 4TH CAROUSEL so i get my 4th item of the game, on a 2 gold champ, these 4 items i have dont make anything good, in my next fight i face someone with 4 completed items on their champs and a component sitting on deck, they wreck me and deal 33(+) damage and kill me

unless im getting 20 gold then i dont want gold instead of an item, and even still, id give up 20 gold for an item any day but rarely would i give up an item for 20 gold

also if getting gold is equivelent of getting an item then you should be able to sell items for gold, but you cant sell items for gold, because items are worth too much, but then why am i losing items for a pittance of gold? riot logic doesnt follow riot logic smh

Ever thought on not wasting items on an early lead that means nothing later on? TFT has always been about building your comp then stacking items when you have one built up.

Theorex1 votes

I've taken first place all 4 ranked games I have played so far.

Gotten items, haven't gotten items.

I actually think that the gold is better than the items.

Now let me explain before people start flipping shit.

So by round 2-3, I had 12 or 13 gold., everyone else was under 10. I opted into take repeated losses, to gain more gold. I dropped myself down to 40-50, before I decided to start rolling for champions. I only pick up champions I need. THE CORE.

I get around about 50 econ, on round 4-1 ish. Normally at 4-1, majority of people are sitting on 25-35 gold. So I am going to get 3 or 4 rounds, of freely leveling up with no worry.

If my comp is strong enough to maintain above 40-50 hp, then I keep going for level up. Then at 40-50, is when I start rolling for champions. Because 1 extra unit on the board can equal 1 rank 3 unit, or 1 rank 2 unit. If you are running the synergies.

So gold is better than some items.

The only items that I ever REALLY want are core items. Spat, Raba, Tear, BF.

Everything else is just Pretty.

This guy is 100% right. In early you win mbe at max a 1g lvl 2 unit but lose carousel and more important item combinations, what actually hurts the most.

RNG is what makes this mode unpredictable and fun to play, if it's not equal valued it's bad for the game.

hoganftw12 votes

You really can't put a price on items in this game when there's no other way of getting them outside RNG drops and carousels

So items are priceless and can't be replaced with money?

This happened to me too just in my first game after the patch...I couldn't believe it. I was expecting the items to actually drop and was excited for the box drop and was confused as to why I was getting Gold. Then saw that everyone had 2 completed items already I was shocked at the power difference. I'd rather much have items than gold. And no the stacking Econ if you're have to work with the end of the pool doesn't work because I have to assume I can match the items too. Items are what the game is about. The difference between have a PD and a RFC vs Assassins and Yordles is HUGE but hey let's have gold maybe you'll roll something to counter it. Like seriously getting shafted AGAIN by the RNG.

NotaWeebishname6 votes

Yeah when I saw the patch notes I was like "oh alright maybe we'll get like 1 to 2 gold per item not dropped" particularly would make birds and wolves fairly okay to get nothing possibly. But yeah it's like 1 or 2 gold for the ROUND, not per minion/monster. Just oof, with how powerful items are it seems odd they'd think this kind of compensation is equivalent.

Personally I feel items should just have a variance of one, like the initial minion wave set should be 2-3 items, those who get 2 items only maybe receive an additional 5 gold, and keep the same mentality for the future waves.

Pandemic Punch6 votes

Everyone should get the same number of items. Doesnt have to be same items. Just the same number.

It seems very minimal but it compounds a lot into mid to late game if you save and reach tiers of 10 for interest. I wouldn't underestimate it just yet.

Also with a lot incoming QoL changes to champion abilities activating properly you may or may not even notice a 'NEED' for items.

Asukazzz14 votes

1 item and 3 gold isn't going to even out with interest against 5 items and 1 gold coming out of the first 3 waves.

What I'm getting at is that not everything is decided in the first 3 waves. I've seen players jump to 1st play upsets just because they had an OP comp that countered everyone else's build. The interest can make a huge difference.

I'm not saying 1 gold is the best they can come up with but it's certainly not worth disclosing until we see results in live.

The interest on 2 extra gold isn't going to make that difference. Saving so that you get the interest at all is. Did you know that the person who gets 5 items and 1 gold can also save and would unlikely to be even as much a full round behind in interest by the end of the game? Most arguments supporting the new method (and the old one) amount to the idea that the person who gets lucky with the items will play badly so it will all work out.

Sometimes it works that way and sometimes it works the opposite way. You are loosing to comps just because you were not able to complete some of your items that are needed to counter that comp. Like RFC, Morello/Red Buff etc. Honestly the problem with TFT is that the items are too strong and too easy to make(just two items). And sometimes you crush certain comp just because you were lucky to complete the item that counters them. Not to mention that because it is easy to make powerful items sometimes you end in situation where you have good comp, but have items for other comp and you might get run over by inferior comp that got lucky by getting the right items for their champions.

For example the original Auto Chess had the totally random drops too, but the completed items weren't that strong or the strong ones were really hard to make so a lot of players did just had some basic items(like the equivalent of unconnected tear + BF sword) or some completed items that weren't that strong on their champs. Dota Underlords on the other hand went with the guaranteed items each wave that are on higher power level but everyone gets the same number of items so it kind of negates itself as nobody just powers through the game thanks to that advantage. TFT decided to go the middle way and in my opinion it does not work well for a competitive play.

I said it in other topics already but RIOT should decide what they want to do with TFT. Do they want it to be competitive or just fun mode? Because in the long run item RNG will negate itself as noone can be lucky 100% of games, but if they want to make tournaments and esport out of TFT the RNG needs to be as minimal as possible. The more RNG game has the more games there needs to be to negate the influence of RNG on the result. There might be people who just get lucky in the 2-3 games they play and they get good tournament just because of luck. Nobody wants to watch esports that is dominated by RNG and nobody wants to watch 10 hours of the games just to negate the RNG abundance. So for the sake of the competitive the RNG should be as minimal as possible or TFT should just be proclaimed ,,fun mode" and keep the RNG. So far the signals from RIOT are a bit mixed. They implemented ranked but on the other hand they made statements like ,,We want to keep high RNG so you can have stories for your friends about the massive drops of items you had".

Sorry but no, there's just zero contest that item stacking is far superior than a few extra gold.

live with it. Better than nothing And iMO its actually rly good, that there are not tooo many Items and Gold Drops by Mobs. Imaging every Game the Carries having RFCs etc, etc.

And also with the Gold: If your lucky and get something good going early you can try to Eco-- if not you probably have to reroll a bit more or lvl up to not fall too far behind. If every Creep would give you Gold thats like 20G for free, thats lots of rolls and lots of Unit Quality if your lucky- and in the End just another factor of RNG. Imo its cool that its not Ultraoverloaded yet.

TakaDama1 votes

While an even distribution of item drops would be preferrable to a bit of gold, if they stick with gold they should double the amount you receive (same goes for pirates, even if that should be limited to 2 gold itself).

This may not seem significant in and of itself, but 2 extra gold is essentially an extra reroll, which would help you build your composition much earlier.

ShadWooo1 votes

What is a point of having so many cool items where you can barely build 3 items before you get killed?

Games where I get low amount of items are not fun at all. Especially because I cannot get a single champ to 3star ever. I play basically only for the small chance of getting to top four and getting lots of items as at that point the game is incredibly fun. But it sucks not having chance to get there in more than 50% of games.

dragonethh1 votes

imo they should just remove item drops and make a shop where you buy items with gold like normal league make managing your economy actually a skill and remove some pretty unbalanced rng in the process

Riot's Response to this topic: https://twitter.com/Mortdog/status/1151873694320320512

I think they are forgetting that, balance aside, it feels SUPER DUPER BAD to get 1 gold when someone else gets items. Gee I sure do appreciate 6g to hoard as I hope I don't get matched against the guy with two and a half items before Krugs so I can collect even more gold... Excuse my sarcasm but I genuinely don't agree with Riot's priorities for this mode here. Items are the key to success so Riot cheerfully saying "you are going to suck this game and finish in the bottom half no matter what you do" is BAD. I don't care if it's good for their vision of the game; it feels awful to me as a player. So much that I've basically abandoned this game mode already.

They seem like they're not going to budge on this unless the clamour keeps up and the Little Legends Casino operation falls short of expectations. Guess I'll check back in a few months to see what the outcome is.

The worst part about this is that they had it right on PBE for a few days before the patch. They had it to where everyone was going to get an item. They even released a PSA saying that everyone was going to get an item.

THEY HAD IT RIGHT.

And then at the last minute they pulled the plug on it and gave us this clusterfuck instead.

That's the worst part.
