Rolling for 3-star Units, How do you win against this

Stephenizgod··1 votes·1,208 views

Anyone else notice this is the strategy in Normals? Everyone just rolls non-stop to 3-star their 1-2 cost units. The only people who don't are the 5th-8th place people... In Ranked, I am used to econ and playing for the level 8 comp. In Normals, I can't place higher than 4th because the top 3 players have 3-4 gold units. They just absolutely roll over any comp. They don't even stack them with good items, they just throw all their items on them and its impossible to seriously beat them. The annoying thing is they are spending all their gold on rolling and leveling, so I basically am only 1 level higher at most against a team of gold units.

Should I be rolling too? I don't know why they can have some cobbled together half-assed team of nothing but because they have 3-stars I can't beat them. I mean the other day I faced 2 people who had 3-star Veigar... barely had a comp around him, but I just couldn't compete with that so early on (pre-level 6). I have no clue what the meta is anymore, I took a really long break after Hextech was introduced, so I am trying to figure out the meta again. It seems totally random... I don't think Normals playstyle should work as well as it does, but in every game at least three people have half their team at 3-stars AND they are keeping up in levels...

Streamers say you have too match the gold spenditure of other players.

Why do you need a comp for 3 star veigar? You just want defense and mana on him and he can 1 shot the 2stars.

The meta at the moment can be summed up as have knights, guardians including Panth with a carry Shyv or Asol and gj ggwp you are genius and win for free. Kaisa comps and assassins are next best I believe.

Don't run for 3 stars units, make interest gold and don't use re-roll till level 7-8. Of course you need some rerols if your HP goes down fast. The idea is to increase level, buy and migrate to level 4-5 units. You will beat 3* low level units.

They need luck to achieve 3* units and playing more games this tactic will decrease their rank level.

My main issue is being dead by level 6, i can't get my comp online before 3 or 4 gold units with 3 items just roll over me. The games that I am capable of getting to level 8 I can make it top 4 usually. Its just really hard to not die early on.

Tier 1 3 stars are kinda trash, they dominate the early, can swing the midgame and are useful late game but even the best tier 1s like Vayne and Kassadin aren't carrying comps late

Tier 2 3 stars can compete with tier 4 2 stars usually. Its definitely a massive advantage.

However, if you can only 3 star these units, and other people get high value 2 stars and fill their army with them, will you win? I think if you get multiple tier 2s to 3 stars, you've made a path to winning the whole game. If you can only make tier 1s at that level though, they're going to fall off late game. Tier 1s just do not compete with tier 4 or 5 at all once they're ranked up.

My issue is I am not making it that far, I try to econ and shoot to roll for the higher tier units, but I am so low on HP and they have so much gold from their winstreaks.

That's an issue with econ mismanagement. Riot has sped the game up, so early leveling and rerolls are more rewarded. Passive play still works a bit, but not as much. You want to pay attention to the top 5 and plan on how you're going to beat them.

And really you only need to reach lv7 for high tier units. If you're dying before that point you have to be fielding a really weak comp. You won't get tier 5s but tier 4s are worth early leveling for. Your OP describes waiting till 8 when the actual strategy atm is waiting till 7 if you're behind... and again, that's if you're behind. If you get a strong start you should push for winstreak, not be passive all game.

Early game build 2 knigths and/or 2 wilds and/or 2 gunslingers or 3 blademasters or 4 knights. Try to add Lucian/Varus (even 1 star is enough) or 2 stars Nida and give them rageblade/giantSlayer/bloothirster or Morrel/Rabaddon on kennen/Lissandra or Bloodthirster on Zed.

Strong comp early game:

  • 3 blademastyer + 2 gunslinger (4 units)
  • 2 knights + 2 wilds/knights + 1 ADC/APC

All about rng.. Can still blow your load and not get 3 star units... Then need the rng to get the right items for said 3 star units or they are worthless..

I mean its not hard to get level 3 units to be honest, I've tried it multiple times and its pretty easy. Now I just shoot for late game comps and try to hit them earlier than everyone else. Seems to be the only reliable way to beat people who can 3 star 3-4 units.

You have better rng than I do. lol

This is honestly one of the worst parts of this game. Rolling champs into 2 star should be the max, and the rest should be how you arrange your characters, what items you give them. Getting synergies removes a lot actual tactics, and makes it more about rolling the right champs.

Just to add, I have won plenty of times with only 2 star champs, but it is undeniable that the power level of 3 star champs is a bit too excessive, especially if you get them the right items.
