Wrath of the Holy Knight (Part 1)
A (not quite so short) story starring everyone's (least) favorite crossbow using monster hunter. Broken up into multiple parts for your convenience.
Another monstrosity on the list, another monstrosity the world won't have to worry about anymore. Vayne silently moved her way through the shadows of darkness on the outer ring of the Demacian suburbs. She carries all matters of methods of disposal. A small wrist mounted crossbow, a large packet of regular wooden bolts for unmagical targets, and a smaller, but significantly heavier pouch of pure silver bolts reserved for those who have fallen to the darkest of nights. Small blades also adorn her skintight spandex suit, with one in the boot, one on both sides of the hip, and a final one hidden behind her neck. But the most impressive of all the weapons Vayne carries is the overly large crossbow that she carries on her back. Powerful magical runes are carved into its beautiful wooden frame, and it pulsates with a pure power to destroy all darkness it touches. Sacred oak from the once great Blessed Isles make up its powerful body. Only for emergencies... or when nights start to get too long.
This particular creature she has been tracking is a shapeshifter able to take on the guise of a regular human. It has infiltrated the ranks of the Demacian Home Protection Force and is slowly and picking off man after man each night. When the morning sun shines upon their desecrated corpses, only the strongest are able to stomach the gruesome sight. Just another day on the job. Vayne effortlessly leaps up between two walls and jumps up on a rooftop to get a better view of the area. She scans for the places where the Protection Force generally patrols with groups of two. Her heightened hearing from years of training perks up as she hears the faint screams of a man who has seen true terror. She springs into action, jumping from roof to roof to find the best possible route to the man. Eventually she pinpoints his location, and jumps down into a nearby darkened alleyway for cover. She slowly creeps forward, and sees the creature in the light for the first time. It stands at easily over eight feet tall, with lumpy gray skin that has been stretched far beyond its breaking point. Dark blue veins are easily visible on the creatures moldy flesh, and its arms are strangely misshapen. One is much longer than the other, but both are extremely thin and bony. Yet despite this, the creature seems to have superhuman strength.
It easily disarmed this once proud Demacian soldier, and is now holding him well above the ground in a stranglehold. It hisses at the man, "Why so glum child? You get the privilege to become my next meal." Its voice is quite low, but carries a sinister hiss that makes every s roll. It draws a single, dirty, overly long nail across the man's chest, then laughs to itself as the man shrieks in terror into a muffling hand. "Shhh, don't cry my child. All will be over shortly." Vayne pinpoints where to hit the monster.
Once in the right leg so it goes down, then twice in the back. Roll around to the front side dodging all possible attempts at a counter attack, then plant a final bolt straight between the eyes. No need for silvers tonight. She readies a wooden bolt on the small wrist mounted crossbow, and takes aim. But she hesitates. Something is off. A large voice booms into the night sky.
"Prepare yourself, creature of darkness. Your day of reckoning, has COME."
That's part one. Based on the demand (which will be low 'cause nobody likes to read these things and my writing is bad) I will write a part two, and maybe but probably not a part three. Leave criticism below (constructive) and thanks for reading.
