I feel bad for the brand new players just joining us recently.

I was lucky enough to begin playing League in early 2010, with myself hitting the six year mark a little while ago. That was during a time that you were allowed to fuck around, because everyone was fucking around. Nobody knew what in the hell to do so pretty much everything was allowed to slide because no one really knew how to play it better. Now, back then there were some serious problems with the game that I won't get in to for the sake of time, but it was different than it is now. Now new players have to deal with extremely toxic players who ridicule them for not instantly mastering a game they are still learning how to play, trolls who just want to screw with them for the hell of it, and people like smurfs who go down to a lower level account just to make it seem like they're so much better are officially the worst people on Earth. I'm sorry that you have to experience all of this, potentially impacting your view of the game for the rest of your time playing it. If there was something more I could do, I would. But if you somehow find a match with me in it, I won't yell at you. I would assume that not yelling at people still learning was a trait of common decency but I guess I was wrong. Thanks for listening.

That's what I hate about League in general. It's that most veteran players demoralize everyone and each other. It's a HUGE disappointment that players get angry at new players, and people who recently pick a champion don't master them in under 10 seconds.

I bet you right now. There are people flaming each other for not mastering Aurelion Sol the second they buy him.

I myself, have gotten into the game in early January/Late December, and still learning a few things, and still get shit on by players.

Recently, I played my second-third game with Vi and my ally Kog'Maw was going off on me about my build. It was something like: "Why are you building that first?? You build that SECOND smfh"

Thats false the most vetran players are usually higher elo and only disrespect either A.cocky players who are mostly toxic themselfs. B. boosted players. Most of the time its the frankly newer players like season 4 and up are the ones that are lower elo and toxic. All the players above diamond are usually extremely nice to new players. Its only the inbetween that is a bigger problem. But I agree with everything in the OP's post.

That can I agree on. I have a few friends I go to college with that are above Platinum+ ELO, and some people I've played against that around that were really nice to me and didn't care if I was Bronze.

There was a time when I was being placed with Plat-Diamond players nearly every game (it was really uncomfortable to be the only one without a border) and they were honestly some of the most enjoyable games ever. It forced me to learn how to play safe, and get wiser on engages (both if I should engage and potential the enemy has to engage). I learned a lot of things, and while I didn't feed I definitely wasn't doing the best. These guys helped me understand league (without meaning to) just by not raging at me and giving me time to learn from them.

All of these players were randos btw, meaning that higher elo players are noticeably nicer and more tolerant than lower elo players. Just my last game there was a Diamond Lee that was doing extremely well top lane, and took our entire team to shut him down until we eventually won thanks to Trundle camping my lane (bot) and snowballing it. Lee was really nice and yet the lower elo players on his team were raggginnngg at him and I felt bad for the dude because he didn't do anything wrong ;n;

We love you high elo players, keep doing what your doing and thanks again for the informational games (thankfully plat/diamond players only appear occasionally in my games now)

Often true. The really knowledgable players understand what it was like to learn, its the banned silver 5s that make a smurf and scream at everyone about everything. If you know youre competent theres no reason to put others down, if youre desprate to feel superior theres every reason to.

I'm sorry, brother. I'm working on changing the culture one player at a time. :)

You know what, I don't feel sorry for new Brand players. I hate Brand and can go burn in hell. Oh, wait. He is already on fire. So, when hell freezes over, that will be the day.

Ruin Lance2 votes

lol yeah man this post is a about new brand players and not brand new players

JVP152 votes

Those sentences mean the same thing. I don't feel sorry for Brand, new players. See, the adjective new refers to the players. Because of the comma which was definitely in the original post, brand doesn't refer to players, but players refer to Brand. Therefore, through convoluted English that may or may not be correct but you are too lazy to check you will automatically assume it is either correct because why not or that it is incorrect just because it sounds wrong (and there are plenty of things that sound wrong in the English language) even if it is a correct way of speaking.

As if only that was the problem, in current stack damage meta everything and everybody dies so damn fast there is practicall 0 room for a mistake, ever. Unless you play some champ that has alot of room for mistakes in there kit. I know for sure, if I had started playing league today, I wouldn't have lasted long.

I love when people claim they know something without actually having any proof, evidence, reason, etc.

What you just said would be the same as me saying "You obviously read this thread, got mad because you smurf smash players who don't even know how to play yet just to feel better about how bad of a player you are". If I said that would it automatically be true? No. This world already has enough people who think they know everything about everyone, and that crap is getting old fast.

The OP is right. Smurf players are not kind at all to the new players. I've had friends join the game, and we played bots together. Still toxicity from players towards my friends because they picked a "lane/champ" that doesn't fit the meta... IN BOTS. Those people then spam pings at that person who is trying to get used to everything happening in the game. Those friends did not stay to play. Out of all 5 of the friends I invited to try the game 1 stayed. The others found learning the game to be too stressful.

And I just felt like pointing out that you were being a hypocrite. Or I guess still are because you are still pushing the narrative that he shouldn't be expressing his valid opinion just because you have an unfounded assumption. Your kind are the worst. You contribute nothing of value to the conversation, and up just wasting time. Maybe you should be the one who is silent until you learn how to take part in a conversation properly.

I remember when I first started :) (2011)

2 1 2 lane and champs just played in any lane.

Junsui Aoi1 votes

I would have loved to have experienced that. I like taking what I want to any lane. I don't understand why we have to follow this meta. Yeah, the pros do it, but what's to say trying something different won't work? And now riot FORCES you to have a jungler? Maybe you had a sick plan for duo top. Yeah, you lose SOME gold, but if you play it right, it could work. Why can't I take an AD Bruiser bot? Why can't I try a jungle champ in the mid lane? Why do I need an AD bot when my whole team is already AD? Why do we enforce this so hard that there is literally no other option.

Narvuntien1 votes

If you want to F around get a premade of 5, people who have all agreed to the fing around then do whatever. if you have played this long surely you have friends that want to play. I mean I have a pretty regular team of leaguing buddies we can do whatever we want as a 5 man.

New players do have all the proleagues to watch and learn from, we didn't have that kind of resource. I remember the first one.. dreamhack... after dreamhack suddenly everyone leashed for you as a jungler it just wasn't a thing before then.

Doctor Dyment4 votes

No no, I have the most fun in League when playing with friends. In fact I rarely play alone anymore. The point of this post is that back in my (our?) day, we really didn't NEED to play with friends to have a consistently good time. We just played, as apposed to the obsession over winning now. I'm not complaining about game balance or anything, this is mostly directed at my feelings of sorrow towards to newbies who have to put up with things we didn't back in those days.

Slythion2 votes

I understood your post, but I felt like addressing this guy was necessary seeing as he tried justifying bullying new and inexperienced players as a "veteran" player

Slythion10 votes

Did it ever occur to you that new players aren't as invested in league as the rest of us, and should be given time to learn things? I don't know about you, but I wasn't interested in league nearly enough pre-30 to sit down and watch hours of pro footage while reading article after article of champ info/builds/tips.

That stuff isn't enjoyable until you enjoy the content, and to enjoy the content you need to learn the content. To learn the content you need time to play the game and get invested in what the game has to offer. New players are the future of league and to bully them out of the community is a mistake. That's how you kill League.

I'll admit I have a smurf account I play on but when i play on that smurf it's with my friends that are new to the game and it is always with a champ I never play in a role i that i don't play like MasterYi jungle or someone I really don't understand like Jayce or Corki (dont laugh). In my smurf games theres always someone else there thats smurfing besides me. Guranteed. That person is a reaaaaaaal dick. Like why are you shouting at a lvl 6 for dieing under enemy turret or recalling out in the open with low hp. Calling them names and telling them to uninstall is a great way to lose new players. And for goodness sakes if someone doesn't want to jungle let them go duo top with you. Most of them don't even know what jungle is. I myself never went in jungle until lvl 10 and that was just because i was wondering what the purple thing was on the map...Old Shen can not solo baron at all

I'm still not entirely sure why smurfs even exist... Beyond the smurfs used for, like, challenge runs of some sort.

Meurtrierr1 votes

In my opinion, only no life make smurfs. How long it too me to reach level 30? Way too long. How long it takes to have 2,3,4 level 30 accoutns? Way too long.

It doesn't take long for new players to start fighting only new players and for alts to start fighting only alts.

I have leveled up a couple accounts and can confirm. The alts on alts games can be pretty brutal with toxicity. You really are not sure what level smurf you are up against you just know they kinda know the game and you kinda know the game and neither of you have runes or possibly keystones. Leveling in general sucks but I really cannot imagine being a new player in the last few years. Has to be the shittiest experience.

I remember one of my first ranked games in season 2 going mundo support because "wtf is support right?" Also Urgot adc because I thought he was cool. I also remember telling a teammate jungeling is dumb and a waste of time when someone suggested I jungle instead of going duo bot with my friend back in season 1. Ahhh the good old days.

i recently joined the game about a patch before the juggernaut meta and i can agree that the game has some people who are toxic AF, but the thing is riot seems to actually be pretty ok with banning people.

ADepressedLeona1 votes

It is very sad that new players have to go through with this. This game has a VERY steep learning curve, because you have to learn what 130 champions can and can't do in order to play them/against them. And not only that, but you need to learn was csing is, what champions are good in the jungle, all the summoner spells etc. This is not a game you can simply pick up and be good at, it takes time. And it's very sad new players are getting shit on by toxic people because they're not instantly a master at this game.

I was recently talking to a new player about the game and I realized how much techno babble I was spouting to them and had to stop myself because I was amazed how much I had to explain about this game then I ever have before. It may look easy to learn but God damn is that an understatement these days, too many things to throw at a new player compared to 2010 - 2013.

Knoyle1 votes

The new player experience is shit. Half the time I get mad at someone I'm angry at myself because I'm probably just as shit as them and can't do anything to make up for their mistakes as I make mine.

Heartsought1 votes

I joined pretty recently (couple weeks ago, I think) and, yeah, I did encounter some of that. It seems that everyone in League gets magically way nicer after you git gud. xp

I've had a few newbies as laning partners in the later half of my League career. I always try to be nice, stop the enemy from ganking and feeding off them (which, ironically, tends to get me fed at their insistence,) and honor them at the end.
