I get it, I really do. Zed is unfun to play against. Riot buffed LeBlanc for some reason. Fizz is a chuckly bottle of annoyance and makes games a living hell. Yasuo should trip on a rock and stab himself with his sword and die forever. God f*cking damn it Riven. Really. I do get it.

But if you honestly want Riot to take us seriously, you have to write out actual intelligent posts. Highlight things that are overly powerful and give reasonable ways to improve it. Give ideas on how to change this or that to make someone more balanced. Be helpful. Do NOT smash your keyboard with such fury as to create a crater the size of the one left by the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs over how a Zed popped your ass under your tower for the fiftieth time in the first twenty minutes before blinking away. Do NOT threaten CertainlyT with putting him inside of a blender, turning it on high, then feeding it to rabid pigs which are then killed with flamethrowers and devoured by H.P. Lovecraft's Eldritch Horror monsters. Who are you more likely to take the opinion of seriously: A homeless man wearing a tinfoil hat screaming at pigeons about why the economy is run by reptilian aliens, or a man dressed sensibly talking at a reasonable volume about how to fix a few things in regards to unfair taxing laws on imported foods.

I expect downvotes.

EDIT: Well, front page. God damn it.

Just not worth, Riot does what they want regardless of how well written your thread is, when a champion is nerfed it isn't because the community wanted it that way.

though i can agree i myself would prefer better posts than just rage and insult.

UtilityPunk5 votes

And that's really the issue. There's no positive reinforcement for a thoughtful 'nerf plz' thread, aside from the upvotes, which you can get just as easily by making a funny criticism of a champion, or a simple statement without raging (the community is sensitive to toxicity). Riot generally makes a point to avoid controversial topics (like OP champs) they don't yet have an official stance on, so the thoughtful threads are ignored anyways.

No, seriously. Some time ago I've seen a thread that interested me while I was refreshing Boards. Used the search function exactly copy-pasting thread's title... and it was nowhere to be found.

Riot takes FOREVER to make, pathetically tiny changes.

And then blames the community if it fails, or accepts responsibility, but reassures us that they still believe its the right decision, or there was a supposed "compromise" reached...when no one has any record of this happening.

Whyzerman3 votes

For those of you who say changes are "pathetically tiny" - you should probably check out Riot's Tech blog and see what a "small change" takes. Here is a prime example of a "small change" they made:

http://engineering.riotgames.com/news/behind-leagues-new-missile-system

Those "pathetically tiny changes" sometimes lead to catastrophic failure of the game.

Vistha Kai3 votes

We're speaking about the visible side of the game here.

What they do to the coding of abilities... we can't really tell unless they fail big time releasing a change like this.

KetiaX2 votes

Meanwhile, Dota2 is working on a completely new engine for the game.

See the difference? I like LoL and all, but Riot is retardedly slow at working on things. Not only that, but they claim that they listen to the community when most of the changes they make don't reflect what the community wants. Everyone wanted Riot to move on from PVP.net since years ago, yet only they have mentioned anything about it (didn't even make a long post about it, just a short sentence)

Long story short I think everyone wants a job at Riot in the balance department. You get paid for doing next to nothing of importance and get to mess with people for fun.

I've actually been going back and forth with FeralPony (original graves designer, along side other things I don't know off the top of my head) about Karma for a couple days. If you contact them directly instead of posting on boards (they don't seem to look unless its a thread they made, its a major non-champion balance issue they don't know about (hence the lack of comments on rengar threads. they know.), or if its a for funzies thread).

Trust me, look for the champ designers/balancers twitters/ask.fms/etc. and contact them directly in a clean, professional, coherent fashion and they will more than likely respond.

Troiann33 votes

The problem is not that people aren't presenting clear, organized arguments. It's that Riot is not going to nerf a champion because people hate them.

Fizz is not OP. Leblanc's not OP. Yasuo's not OP. Rengar's not OP. Zed's not OP, although he is strong atm. Talon's not OP. Lee Sin's not OP.

People just hate the champs and spam the entire board with them. Doesn't matter how civilized you are, their stats don't show they're broken. Competitive play does not show they're broken. Nothing shows their broken, only players who don't comprehend the game and just want everything that they think is anti fun to be gutted.

fractalfantasies15 votes

This is the complete truth of the matter.

Many of the posters on this board are unable to separate them not understanding their weakness/them disliking the fact they can't play them like the pros with them being OP.

Supreme Senpai6914 votes

That doesn't make their arguments any less valid though, y'know? Fizz and Riven aren't OP. Ill even go so far as to say Rengar isn't even OP. But they are unfun to play against, and most would agree. Their kits are toxic to a game that's played to have fun; while not OP, that doesn't really mean change isn't needed. If people calmed down they'd realize they don't want nerfs, just re-works. Take away LeBlanc's 20 second CD ult, her insane mobility, or her ability to 100-0 you instantly by increasing cooldowns or decreasing ranges. Then give power back somewhere else. Increase Fizz's E cooldown late game and add something else back in.

Balance aside, people just wanna stop seeing the same annoyance every game.

fractalfantasies4 votes

I can sympathise with this on some level, a champ can be annoying to play against even if they're not OP

At the same time, this board seems to hate the most fun champs, Lee Sin is so fun to play, I don't play Zed, but it must be the same story for him as well as champs like LB, rengar and Riven who have all kinds of cool features to their gameplay. For me though, the most annoying champs are champs like Kayle, if Zed pulls off an amazing combo and kills me, I accept I was outplayed, if I am about to kill an enemy only to see Kayle save her using her ulti (zero mechanical skill) I feel it was a cheap way to lose that fight. Lots of people hate the fact they lack the mechanical skill to use these high skill ceiling champs to their full ability.

If Riot did get rid of the Zeds/Lee Sins/LB's/Rivens less people would play overall because honestly this is why I prefer League to DOTA2, League champs are so much more fun to play, I want to play a fun action game not an RTS where I only control one character (which is what DOTA2 feels like to me).

Not exactly.

What most of these champions have in common,is that under certain matchups(and if they aren't in those matchups, their own players don't like them either),it's up to them to mess up to lose(lee sin is a prime example for this, yasuo in the right matchups),or the game lacks tools to deal with them if they reach a certain scenario which isn't very hard to reach(riven getting a kill in lane and becoming unstoppable, rengar getting an early lead/etc).

These champion take control from their opponents(unless counter picked or shut down hard) making them feel like npcs,so naturally people love playing them for that(everyone wants to be able to decide a game by being mechanically good at a champion) and everyone hates playing against them for that(nobody likes to auto-lose matchups because their opponent isn't bad at his champ).

No,you just described exactly what I've said just from the perspective of zed into his counterpicks. Nobody cares about the mechanical skill much, when you lose a fight becaue your opponent isn't bad at his champ(kayle failing to use her ult/yasuo failing to dash/windwall/lee sin somehow managing to get killed with all his insane mobility and disengage,or when he screws up half of his kit then kills you anyway because his kit is ridiculously overloaded) it feels cheap, hence they are hated.

*Difference between kayle and zed though is that zed shits on A LOT more champions than kayle does,so don't expect me to have much sympathy for him there.

I would play this game a lot more if these guys were deleted, and have friends who stopped playing due to their existence.

Hell, speaking of dota2,the reason I started playing it was due to the original cancerssasin quartet of season 3(kassadin,ahri,fizz,zed),not really sure why the fact dota2 has a slightly different interface makes it so different from lol either.

This is it exactly. Champions who take away the other player's agency are the biggest cause of frustration in League.

This is it exactly. Champions who take away the other player's agency are the biggest cause of frustration in League.

I honestly hate the term "agency",it's just used as an equivalent of "a counter pick when the champion is played properly" or "flat out overpowered when played properly",riot is basically trying to rename strength into agency and winrate into strength, and I'm just not fine with it.

I remember a red post saying sona can't be buffed because she is too hard of counter for things without hard engage, yet personally I would rather play nami against sona than against yasuo, and he isn't even in my lane.

I mean take kayle vs zed for example,it's a counterpick for zed,but pre 6 zed can still win lane against her, post 6 he can still poke her down(though getting a kill is unlikely, and she starts healing herself more),it's still feasible to gank her and he can roam,he has issues teamfighting but he can still splitpush, she's still a good counter, but she only goes so far as such.

Now take yasuo vs brand: pre level 6 if the yasuo is any good there's no reason for him to get hit by anything(well aside from e) due to it being telegraphed,he can even prevent retaliation with q at closer range with his windwall, after 6+ teamfights he can block most of brands kit with windwall while himself being unlikely to be affected by it,and due to brand being a mage he can't really effectively try to roam or splitpush, and even if he does yasuo will just melt his tower due to him being an ad champion, and to top all of that yasuo is harder to gank than brand(*do note that this, like everything, can vary based on numbers, and countermechanics can be turned inside-out if tuning is off enough).

Now even how bad kayle is for zed is a bit dubious, but it's not too horrible and it's rather specific between them(due to the nature of zed's ult,for the most part kayle doesn't mess with champions as hard as she does with zed),and then you have yasuo, being way more obnoxious to much more champions, why is he even allowed to exist?

Honestly "agency" here is used as a fancy word for "once mastered becomes a super hard counter to a lot of champions but since it's a flashy champ you can all go fuck yourselves".

EXACTLY!

While i love-hate Nasus as much as the next guy, i understand something that rito clearly forgot. Hard counters give the game depth. You just don't blind pick and AA reliant champ in top lane, when you don't know that your junger plans to pick an early powerhouse (even more so if you do know they don't), couse odds are someone will pick nasus into you, and survives the first ten minutes. Then he starts to tear down towers, and if you dare to get close to him, tears you a new butthole, just for good measure. While nasus is the farthest possible from a flashy champion, he is a reasonable one (beats aa reliant champs, gets beaten by casters).

Compare that to yasuo. He's supposed to beat skill shot and/or projectile reliant champs. That's freakin every mid laner ever. But he looks cool, and his kit is cool, so he's there.

EXACTLY!

The thing is that lol isn't as much of a team game as dota, and the early laning phase lacks options, also unlike dota most champions pretty much have to go into a certain lane, that and the game has a much more casual attitude, which is why riot themselves openly stated they are against hard counters.

He doesn't really get beaten by casters,in fact his weaknesses are more aa champs like vayne.

What happens(against casters) is that his early game is weak(which his jungler should help him with if his opponent gets very aggressive) then he gets spectre's cowl and just ignores you(which is well,a pretty dubious interaction),his weaknesses are not so much his weak early(though it still is on the weak side) as much as how kitable he is,sending someone like vayne or quin into him actually makes some sense.

Compare that to yasuo. He's supposed to beat skill shot and/or projectile reliant champs. That's freakin every mid laner ever. But he looks cool, and his kit is cool, so he's there.

That's really not a fair comparison. Yasuo will shit on them in lane, while being harder to gank, nasus will instead be weaker in lane, and feasible to gank until later. Later in lane yasuo will still shit on them, nasus actually still won't be able to reach them, but probably won't care too much either(he will heal more than they will deal),but they are notably easier to gank at this point. In team fights yasuo will again shit on them, whereas if those adcs will get peel from their team(which adcs rely on anyway),they are your best chance at killing nasus. Depending on who the adc is,they can still roam or splitpush.

Yasuo is way,way worse,it REALLY isn't fair for nasus to compare him to yasuo.

Lao Fu the Tiger6 votes

To a very small extent, I agree with the general plea of, "this is not fun to play against."

As a whole, however, I do disagree. I believe that the reason people say certain champions aren't fun to lane against (aside from Leblanc, against whom your goal is to survive until late game) isn't due to frustrating kits, but failure and refusal to adapt to the situation.

People refuse to rush hourglass into Zed.

People refuse QSS against Fizz.

On a wider scale (champion select), people refuse to play glaringly strong counters to these champions like Annie or Swain or Malzahar.

People "don't wanna." People say, "I know my opponent has a very strong early game but I don't want to build against them." Or as a Yasuo said to me when we were both 0/0/0 8 minutes in, before he proceeded to feed the hell out of me, "I hate passive lanes. They're so boring. Screw that. "

His failure to adapt cost him the game.

Spitemaster4 votes

QSS against Fizz isn't the problem. I main support, and the only way I can think of to reliably peel Fizz is to take Janna or Annie and ult. Everything else has either a cast time, a travel time, or both. As Leona, I can't even Zenith Blade to him, because his troll pole causes the dash to fail. I get that he's a mobile assassin. But I just feel useless against a Fizz no matter what because it's never anything I do that kills him, it's him messing up which allows me to stun him.

Wyrmblade2 votes

I think the problem is that the champions force you to change your whole playstyle from a fun one to a boring one just to survive in the game, especially since champions like Fizz or Zed are picked incredibly often.

It's not fun to have to play incredibly safe every single match because of the other player's champion.

Lao Fu the Tiger1 votes

"force you to change your whole playstyle..."

Bingo. And people hate this. The fact of the matter, though, is that this is part of adaptation. Your playstyle ideally should be able to change fluidly; if you only have one playstyle, well, you have a lot to learn. Adaptability is key.

" ...from a fun one to a boring one...It's not fun to have to play incredibly safe because of the other player's champion."

This is entirely subjective, and this is why I get frustrated when people say that X is OP, or even X is "unfun" to lane against.

I, as a big picture person, love challenges and changing my playstyle to fit various matchups. I legitimately enjoy the "boring" safe lanes as much as the "fun" aggressive lanes, because I know in my head that the enemy is getting frustrated with me, and I'm playing mind games with him by not giving him what he wants.

That IS fun to me. Maybe not to everyone, but it's part of strategizing, which is part of League, which is what I love about RTS games.

MEMEME6702 votes

This is entirely subjective

I beg to differ on this.

The situation you're talking about boils down to this: One player has to change their playstyle to deal with the inherent advantage the other player has, and then even after doing so they're on equal or unfavoured ground. That's always going to feel a bit silly, and it's much different than being able to change your play style to gain an advantage.

Nameless Voice2 votes

This is my entire problem with Riot, and why I haven't really felt like playing League for months. After year after year of nothing changing, I just had enough. Riot repeatedly say that it's okay if a champion is frustrating and no fun to play against if the numbers mean that they are balanced and the person playing them is having fun. I strongly disagree with this.

Even while playing ranked and trying to climb the ladder, we're still all playing this game to have fun. When the game stops being fun and the developers explicitly state that this is a state of affairs that they are happy to support, then something has gone very wrong.

It certainly doesn't help when the reasons that we find certain champions frustrating and antifun is because they break Riot's own stated design goals, generally by having moves that negate another player's agency and make the game more about picks and hard-counters then actual skill. Plus, on top of that, they like to cite those same design goals when making changes to other champions who are far less disruptive (and often nerfing them into unviability), while refusing to acknowledge the problems in the worst offending cases.

Let's be honest here, for the champs who are obvious examples(like the ones you've mentioned),the reasons for why they are hated are already widespread and well known,if I were to say "fuck rengar and soraka, they are cancer",do you REALLY think riot needs to hear the same explanation over and over again?

and give reasonable ways to improve it. Give ideas on this to change this or that to make someone more balanced. Be helpful.

Isn't too much sense in it really,if riot wants to improve something they are unlikely to pay much attention to this, they will instead focus on what are the problems the players see,and what problems do they see.

As much as people love to circlejerk about circlejerking,it would be stupid of you to believe that riot is just unaware of why these champions are so deeply hated,I mean we are all aware of it,and there's actually been threads detailing what is stupid about them,it just that these problems keep getting ignored,so the point of things like "so why is le blanc getting buffed?" statements,is to remind riot that these problems were not addressed, there's no sense to repeat things that were already said 457398475983 times before, hell, the whole purpose of that thread was based on people still remembering what is wrong with that champion.

Do NOT threaten CertainlyT with putting him inside of a blender, turning it on high, then feeding it to rabid pigs which are then killed with flamethrowers and devoured by H.P. Lovecraft's Eldritch Horror monsters.

This board is totally hypocritical, right now MF and Lucian are OP ADC's and a few months ago Amumu and Sejuani were disgustingly OP, this board did not care and instead continued moaning and whinging about LB, Zed, Vayne and Lee Sin. They put themselves into it by not nerfing him properly 2 seasons ago. DrProfVibeCheck1 votes

I personally hate going against him. I get that his early game is good, but even then, Zed can snow hard enough from one kill.

Once Zed gets that early kill (by poking you down with his hella safe range and all-ining you at 6), you can't really stop him unless A: he sucks, B: your team has hella ton of CC (and reflexes), or C: you get zhonyas or Qss

This is from a low Elo perspective, mind you. I get in high elo, Zed is a lot easier to shut down, but keep in mind: a majority of players are bronze or silver. That means many of us have this problem.

Now, I don't know exactly how to "fix" Zed. For one, i don't think he's even broken. I just find him very annoying to play against. Its like how everyone hates fizz for being annoying as hell, but fizz isn't the strongest pick right now.

Spizzle90002 votes

I don't blame you tbh. He can be very irksome if he gets ahead and he has really strong, safe poke. His snowballing potential is ridiculous and his 1v1s are insane. But I still love playing as and against him. It's an acquired taste, I think.
