@ Riot. What do you think about adding Tier 3 Runes as Shards from Hextech?

What do you think about adding tier 3 runes as shards?

You can collect them as a reward for using Blue Essence. That way, blue essence wont go to waste for some people, and newer players have a way to collect both champions for IP and runes for essence at the same time!

I would ease newer players into getting some nice tier 3 runes for the pages they need eventually instead of just dumping all their IP into pages and having none left for new champions.

It would also give players who just haven't bought all the runes a way of collecting all of them.

Maybe include legacy runes as well!

I don't think anyone wants them to add even more items in there to be "filler" for the chests. Unless the runes are treated like essence where you can get that + a champion/skin shard, then sure since I see no reason not to. Remember that they'res a lot of bad and useless runes in the game, and even more situational runes AND you would get duplicates of them as well.

This would be terrible for people who have all the champions in the game because we already get champion shards which is basically useless for us anyways and then if they did this, we'll get even more useless stuff from hextech. Considering not everyone has $$ to spend on buying chests/keys, and you only get like 4 per month if you don't buy, so people wouldn't want to end up having theirs go to waste.

Even for players who don't have all the champions and runes they wouldn't really want this. They probably would rather just get all their champions through the shards, and then they could just save the IP for the runes they want/need, unless they really want a certain champion which they could just use the IP for.

Plus people are still debating if it's even worth it to spend RP for more chests and keys, and if runes are added as shards that counted for your item then no one would really buy them.

You have good points, but I should have explained that I wanted the Runes to be an addition to the chests to make them more random and fun.

An example chest:

Tier 3 rune, rare gem, orange essence.

Or, Tier 3 rune, champion shard.

Runes aren't supposed to be available for RP.

So if you could get them only with chests and keys earned from playing it could work, but that seems pretty complicated to actually implement.

They would still be available for IP in the store in addition to dropping in chests.

They would be additional loot that drops around 20% of the time.

EX: Skin shard + Tier 3 quintessence.

EX: Champion shard + Tier 3 yellow rune.

EX: Rare Gem + Essence + Tier 3 Blue.

That way, it adds an extra element to crafting and gives players an extra incentive to play the chests for free.

Besides, runes will never be available for just straight RP, you just have a shot at them if you buy chests.

That's interesting, however consider this: Nothing you recieve from a Hextech chest is mandatory to play. It's almost entirely cosmetic, and given the time you invest towards unlocking a champion through the Champion shards you can just grind ip and purchase them in the store, often for less time it would take to craft the Champ shard into a champion.

I like the idea of a player having access to Tier3 Runes without having to purchase them, but if we inlucde Runes in the Hextech Chest we create space and % chance of drops for other items to be reduced. And when people are really trying to gun for a certain champ or skin, and trying to get more essence, picking up a Tier 3 Rune they may or may not already own would be frustrating. Good concept, but maybe a different manner of execution?

Maybe Riot can present a series of challenges that are unlocked and made available to players at lvl25. If you want some Tier 3 AD Runes, you need to reach "X" AD in a game , either through item builds or ally spells, or something like if you want movement speed quints, you need to reach 1k MS in a game (which is possible IIRC for anyone to do with proper items or ally set ups)

Who knows.

Runes could be Rerolled with 3 others to combine a new rune that the player does not yet own.

It sounds.........reasonable. All this post needs now is more views and feedback to see how the idea really stands with more of the community.
