Why was the Dauntless Ahri skin renamed?

The newest PBE patch renamed the upcoming "Dauntless Ahri" skin to "Challenger Ahr".

Since I followed the discussions around the skin during the last weeks, I guess it was to better convey the "beginning of the season" look Riot is going for with the skin, but was it really necessary to change the name to accomplish that? When the skin was announced I really liked "Dauntless" as a name. It has a nice ring and sounds really powerful. "Challenger" just doesn't do the same, along with already being a pretty laden word in lol.

It doesn't really break the skin, I just think it makes it... less awesome :c

I agree with you, the skin is already not going to sell well, and now they've changed the name to make it worse too

These posts about changing Ahri's name get downvotes for no good reason :c to me challenger Ahri feels like it's meant for challenger players & that tier. Dauntless actually sounded better & classy. I liked it. This change was so unnecessary & bad. Why cant they listen to our actual complaints about the skin itself. That head piece

Because "Challenger" makes more sense, as in it's a new challenger at the beginning of the season.

"Dauntless" is just silly.

The name change does make it "less awesome" in my opinion as you put it. Challenger makes it sound... quite lame as a skin because there's the Challenger tier already having that word used for it. Fearless or some other descriptive word like that would make it cool again. As much as I love Ahri , I probably will be discouraged from using this skin if it continues to have the name change.

I personally prefer "Undaunted" or "Valiant". Dauntless seems weird for a skin title, and Challenger seems weird because this isn't Super Smash Brothers.

The Challenger exploded shortly after launch. Not the best name for a begin-of-season launch skin?
