Petition Riot!: Annual Community Creation!

During a Boards discussion with a friend, we came up with an amazing idea that'd benefit Riot, as well as its customers immensely.

To keep it short and simple:

Riot once a year, holds a vote featuring 5 community supported creations, which the community votes on, and then Riot begins to implement.

Longer and more details:

With so many great ideas going to waste in the "concept and creations" tab of Boards, I vented my frustrations on how all that content goes to waste, even ideas that are supported by a ton of people. With that post, started a discussion bringing up the idea to hold an annual vote for community created content. This could be anything from champions, Items, Maps. Riot's creation team picks Five of the top community ideas, and we hold a vote to have riot create that content. The community is already inspired to create designs, full ability kits, and even a general attempt to balance damage numbers out. Riot introducing this idea will allow the community to feel valued in it's opinions, the program itself would be cheap (as any poll would work, and monitoring it for a month wouldnt take very much man power.)

In order to support this idea, please respond to this thread, even if it's an "I agree!" it will keep this post at the top of the Boards, and become more likely to receive Riot comments.

SIncerely,

Tripod Fay

This would great although I feel that it will won't happen.

I think the issue is that it would create an overly competitive atmosphere from the imaginative/creative one there is right now.

In my opinion, it would be nice to have like a "Rioter's Pick" every month. A couple Rioter's could go around picking concepts they loved reading and talk about a few ways to improve or a few reasons as to why they loved it.

Competition is GREAT for creation. it forces people to go bigger and better than their current idea. however, your idea on Rioters pick is a good first block stepping stone.

Unfortunately, on a forum such as this currently is, the outcome I'd predict most likely is people constantly bumping their own threads while downvoting most of the others into oblivion. We don't really have a supportive and design-conscious enough community to reliably drive traffic to the high-quality, well-balanced material, and we'd have to build that before something like this would really be feasible.

The RIOTER'S PICK idea would be nice, as it shows Riot is interested in community creations, but doesn't create false expectations or disappointment. Having Riot select community creations, however, has a number of downsides, not the least of which is that the final concept, after it has gone through Riot's design balancing, art process, lore editting, etc, might not even resemble the original creation.

Remember: ideas supported by a ton of people aren't necessarily good.

The PROGRAM might be cheap, but the process isn't. Creating a champion from scratch takes about 6 months of development time. Creating one from an initially suggested kit might cut a month or two off of that, tops. You're still taking a lot of development time from a lot of different teams to properly polish even the best community creations for actual release, and that's expensive.
