[Champion Concept] Alvira: The Nanite Collective

Hello again everybody!

I must admit... Lutzburg's champion generator is really damn fun. I decided to give Roh'zix a small break, for I felt people were a bit displeased when I sent two iterations of the same champ out within a 24 hour period. So I thought; "You know what, why not try a new champ?" Roh still needs some work done to him, though, and thus, I will come back to him at a future point.

If any of you have happened to read up on one of Lutzburg's champion concepts, which you can find here, you'll know that he also has created a random champion generator. This generator is to help any aspiring champion concept come to life. It gives you the sex of the champion, what species they are, what role they fill, what kind of damage they deal, and the mechanics of a single ability.

My second try with the random champion generator (again, after trying it a few times to get something that worked) eventually gave me a mechanical AP female tank, that had a global ability that stuns your enemies, but also gives a stat buff to your allies. Since every global ability in the game is an ultimate, I really had no choice but to make this ability an ultimate. And slowly, but surely, Alvira: The Nanite Collective was born.

Before I go on, I would like to state one thing that the champion generator gave me before the Alvira concept just to show you guys how crazy this thing can get; a mixed damage male yordle fighter with a skillshot AOE true damage suppression ability................yeah. Hideously overpowered, am I right? I almost made that champion......almost.

Alvira: The Nanite Collective

Role AP tank/support

Inspiration I wanted to make a champion that uses nanobots as a resource. However, not only would these nanobots act like mana for this champion, but also act as a means to soak up damage.

Design Alvira is a nanobot factory, continuously cranking out nanobots like a beehive to not only power her abilities, but protect her and her allies from harm. Even her name is derived from the Latin word alveare meaning hive.

Her design tends to step out of the realm of conventional tanks, where she simply doesn't survive an onslaught of damage, but more so absorbs the damage. I know that this could be difficult to understand, which is why you'll have to read her passive in order to understand what I truly mean.

Risk Moderate. Alvira is relatively easy to play, despite being fairly complex at her core. She is tank, and thus can take one hell of a beating, however, she has some difficulty in returning any noticeable damage.

Appearance A younger girl, somewhere in her teens that, evidently, looks like she is made out of sand. If she has no nanobots to control, she is simply a small, floating device that looks fairly similar to Oriana's ball.

Lore Missing

Strengths Good engage, can absorb alot of damage, can be a very useful utility to her entire team, can isolate a single target from the enemy team

Weaknesses Very low damage, requires odd resource management, horrible duelist

Plays most like:Maokai Mordekaiser Gangplank Janna

Auto attack: Alvira's hands transform into several different melee weapons, each having their own autoattack animation.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/8/icons_7176_btn.jpg Passive - Nanobot Factory: Alvira continuously creates nanobots, which are used to power her abilities, and protect her and her allies from harm.

Each of Alvira's abilities cost a certain percentage of her current nanobot reserves. The more nanobots she has in store, the more powerful her abilities are.

The nanobots also make it much more difficult to damage Alvira. The more nanobots she has in reserves, the less overall damage she takes from enemies, turrets, minions, and neutral monsters. If Alvira's reserves are full, the next source of damage is blocked entirely. Each source of damage consumes a certain number of nanobots, and the less nanobots she has, the more damage she will receive. If Alvira's nanobot reserves run out, she is actually dealt true damage from any damaging source, due to her fragile core being exposed.

If Alvira is ever to fill her reserves with nanobots, she starts to overflow. This overflow grants a very slow regenerating shield to her and her allies up to a max of a certain percentage of her max health. The more allies that are within range of Alvira, the less effective the shield will be, due to the overflow having to be shared among all of the allies. If an ally is to step outside of range of Alvira, their shield slowly degenerates, and is then applied to any remaining active shields. All active shields immediately start to degenerate if some of Alvira's nanobot reserves are consumed. although Alvira's own shield is immediately broken.

Design: Yes, I know, this is an EXTREMELY complex ability. But, it is what makes Alvira....well....Alvira.

You can think of this ability as a combination of normal mana (used on many champions), and Mordekaiser's passive (a shield that is granted when damaging enemies). Her nanobots are her mana, but also her shield. I expect managing this resource will certainly be the most complex, and difficult thing to learn about her. As for the overflow, I simply thought it would be a cool way to explain what happens to the nanobots that she can't fit into her reserves.

It is quite difficult to explain this ability without simply restating stuff that is in the ability description. Do not hesitate to ask questions if you're confused.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/8/icons_7445_btn.jpg Q - Nanite Lance: Alvira transforms her arm into a lance, and lunges forward in a target direction, damaging the first enemy unit she comes in contact with.

Design: Just a simple, damaging engage tool. You see this EVERYWHERE in the game.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/14/icons_13218_btn.jpg W - Nanite Swarm: Alvira unleashes a swarm of nanobots onto a target champion.

Allied Cast: The swarm increases the ally's armor and magic resistance for a short duration.

Enemy Cast: The swarm surrounds the enemy champion, slowing them down more and more over time. Eventually, the swarm is able to stop the champion all together, snaring them for a short duration. This ability gets better as the ability ranks up, transitioning from more of a slow, to a full snare.

Design: Since Alvira is a somewhat of a support, I needed to give her some quick crowd control. Essentially, the allied cast is just like Mordekaiser's W, but it doesn't deal damage. It just lets her ally soak up a bit of damage.

The enemy cast is very similar to Nasus' W, a slow that gets more potent over time. However, unlike Nasus, Alvira's slow eventually snares the target. I figured the nanobots had to think of how to actually stop the target, and thus, couldn't do it immediately.

When the ability is first unlocked, it is more of a slow, with a very short snare at the end. Once the ability is maxed, it is simply a snare. For example, if the entire ability lasts 2.5 seconds, then at rank 1, the slow would last 2 seconds, and the snare .5 seconds. Whereas at rank 4, the slow would last .5 seconds, and the snare 2 seconds. Once it is maxed, it is a 2.5 second snare.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/6/icons_5194_btn.jpg E - Nanite Burst: Alvira transforms into a quickly spinning ball, and then explodes, dealing damage to all enemies around her, and knocking them back a short distance.

Design: Since Alvira's Q can be used to engage, I thought it would be useful for her to have something in her disposal to separate the team. It can also be used as a small disengage tool. Essentially, this a very tuned down version of Janna's ultimate, except it deals minimal damage, doesn't heal, and knocks back enemies a far shorter distance.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/6/icons_5842_btn.jpg R - Nanite Pillar: Alvira sends out all of her nanobots left in her reserve to create a towering pillar that comes crashing down at a target location anywhere on the map, and lasting for a long period of time before dissolving. The farther away the target location, the longer it will take for the pillar to get there.

If enemies are caught in the landing zone, they are dealt moderate damage, and are stunned for a moderate duration.

Any allies that come within range of the pillar are granted damage reduction for however long they remain inside the range of the pillar, or until the pillar completely dissolves. If Alvira comes within range of the pillar, she is granted a massive bonus to health regen and nanobot regen, but does not receive the damage reduction bonus.

Once the pillar dissolves, allies that are within its range are granted the maximum shield amount they could receive from the overflow of Nanobot Factory.

Design: This is the ability that Lutz's champion generator gave me, however, I did throw in the shield at the end.

Think of how good Braum is at protecting his allies. You could say, that due to this ability, Alvira does his job better. However, when this ability is cast, Alvira becomes her most vulnerable, since she consumes all of her left over nanobot reserves. That being said, I simply couldn't make it to where she isn't affected at all positively by the ability. Soraka's ultimate heals herself, why can't Alvira's act in the same fashion?

But, I did notice, that when designing her passive, I was essentially giving her two sources of just straight damage reduction, which was a bit strong in my eyes. So, it was quite easy to have her unaffected by that part, but give her a massive bonus to health regen, since she would be inside a massive swarm of nanobots. Plus, it would be safe to assume that while inside the massive swarm, she happens to catch some and put them in her reserves, thus giving her quite a large boost to her nanobot regen.

Since this ability would fill up her reserves so quickly, I made it to where Alvira couldn't hold all of the nanobots swirling around her, thus, it would grant the maximum shield amount from the passive overflow when it finishes its duration.

And there you have it folks! My second champion concept that came from something that a random champion generator gave me. I would like to thank Lutzburg for making it, making his other champion concepts which helped inspire this, and giving his advice on my first concept. I would also like to thank anyone in advance who will lend their ideas to this champion.

Also, if you may have noticed, I did use Lutzburgs format for making this concept. His format is very well organized, and helps explain the champion very well. So, thanks again Lutz!

Feel free to tell me what you think!

Hey! Great champion concept! I'd love to see the interactions with Orianna and Blitzcrank

Passive (Nanobot Factory): This passive is fairly complex I'll give you that. Perhaps it may be a bit overloaded? But anyway, how fast does the resource regenerate? Is it like energy or mana? Flat value or scaling? I'm assuming purchasing bonus mana regen does not assist in recovering nanobots?

Q (Nanite Lance): As you said, standard engaging tool. Looks like she'll be building somewhat tanky with this move, her E, and her passive.

W (Nanite Swarm): I'd like to see something more tied to this ability on both ends. Perhaps on ally cast, it also gives the champ increased health regen from all sources? I know that sounds like Trundle's W but it seems like this move is lacking something, I just can't place my finger on it. I feel like the enemy cast is a little too similar to Wither. Perhaps instead have a slow coupled with grevious wounds and it deals magic damage over time? I imagine the nanobytes "nipping" at the enemy and burying through and disrupting the healing magics of summoners (know its not canon anymore but whatever)

E (Nanite Burst): Can Alvira use any of her other abilities in the ball mode? Are her movements adjusted in anyway. For some reason the first thing that came to my mind was Xin's ult not Janna's, I dunno why.

R (Nanite Pillar): I like the animation of seeing a bunch of metal bees (that's how I imagine the nanobots) fly off down river to assist bot lane. I don't get how the pillar can land on top of someone. Do you mean it displaces them?

I like her but i feel that her having a in game item to increase nanabot factory would be a good thing. i am not a huge fan of her E just exploding sounds bad make it more like old karma's boom shield that she can put on minions or allies or herself it (it fits she is offensively defensive already). I think she sounds fair for the most part for some reason i see her getting out classed by many yet to be created champions. with the way riot is going the next champion needs to be hugely op or its not gunna work
