Emo former support rant incoming:
Since i started playing at the end of season 1, i've gone through maining many different roles - from support http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/e/e6/SorakaSquare_old.png/revision/latest?cb=20130216213655, to adc
, to

, to jungle
, alternatingly. I've experienced every single side there is in league - the flamer, the one trying to patch a team back together, the one muting everyone, the one laughing as the enemy team rips each other to shreds, the one consoling that one opponent that just wanted a casual first game of the day while his team tries to maul each other to death verbally, that awful loss where you do everything in your power to change the course of the battle with seemingly no effect, that game that lasted 70 minutes, that game that lasted 12 minutes, that game where the entire enemy team ragequit - you get the idea.
Out of all these situations, the only one that really gets to me is when a bot lane duo falls apart. When the adc flames the support over something as pointless as who gets a kill - it makes me feel so terribly sad, every time it happens.
Supports are treated like the cleaners/janitors of league - like servants. Its gotten to a point where i almost tear up when a particularly friendly support apologizes after getting a kill.
You are my partner, not my slave. Partners share, period! What would i be without you?
Every adc main should play top lane as their favourite adcs a couple times. They should play support as well, so they will know exactly what it's like.
That'll make them realize just how important their support is to them - and hopefully that they are a valid player just as much as the mid laner or top laner is. Play your favourite adc in a solo lane - you wont notice just how much work the supports do, and how much comfort they bring with their presence, until they're gone.
Who keeps the enemy bot lane duo off you? Who grants vision of that roaming Ahri, or pulls that
off you mid-jump
? And in return, who kills or scares off that
once he gives up trying to reach you
? Bot lane is THE duolane past Season 2 - when the other lanes start flaming you, he or she will often be the only pillar of encouragement and support for you to cling on to in the oncoming storm of salt and fire.
They're the last player you should think of as an enemy, thus you shouldnt create needless tension by fussing over kills. After all, that first blood your
got might net him an early sight stone or face of the mountain, which translates to a much stronger tank that will take on every single other player in the rift to protect you. Damage is nice and all, but its sort of pointless if you dont live long enough to unleash it, isnt it?
Personally, i feel acknowledging supports is the reason i ended up in Platinum. Even as a top laner, due to my time as a support main i notice just how much the supports on both teams do - and very few players, even around diamond rank, seem to realize all the work they do. That pentakill
pulled off with a sliver of health remaining? Did you notice that blind hook
landed on the fleeing Syndra? Did you notice the
shield combo
pulled off to block that bomb detonation from
? Did you notice how
pushed
off you not just once but TWICE in a row?
There are so many examples i can give. From the armor buff
provides to the subtle movement speed
gives, or
magic resist aura - there are so many tiny, unnoticeable things these people do for you that more often than you would believe decide the entire outcome of a game!
And this is the person you're going to harrass because they accidentally lasthit the opposing adc, even if you had less than 100 HP and they were fearing for your life?
/rant end.
People need to appreciate the supports more. I hope they will one day get the recognition they deserve. Great post. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
