What Shen Should Look Like :)

If Shen's model and animations looked like this he one be my go to main 99.9% of the time.... That 0.1% is only if my team instalocks everything and leaves me with like ADC D: I really love shen and think riot doesn't nearly enough thought and time into him like other well designed champs. I probably was the only one who cringed when I saw the texture update because I thought (oh with this riot will probably never give him the much needed Visual Update or Rework I was hoping for )

He looks so much tankier and is on par with Zed and Yasuo in design.

I personally want shen to look like he does in the new splash art he got. I sometimes wish shen was an assassin champ after looking at the new splash art.

if they made him look like his new splash, I would be even more thrilled. His splash update was probably the most impressive of them all so far.

Shen was the first champion I bought when I first came to League and he's been my main ever since. I can honestly say I've been wanting to rework him before I even knew what reworks were. Even two and half years ago he looked pretty old but now it's just ridiculous. Here are some ideas of what I think Shen needs.

Shen's Model

  • I think it's pretty obvious Shen's model should reflect how it is in his splash art.

  • We should know just by looking at him that he is a ninja and a tank. Shen's silhouette could use some beefing up along with more distinguishable swords. Maybe he should have more ninja gear on him.

  • Shen's animations should be disposed of. His walking animation is awkward and his sword slashes aren't only unrealistic and clunky but physically impossible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3vFO2nl8Og (I think his Warlord Skin handles his sword slashes pretty well)

  • Shen should be taller.

Shen's Theme

  • Shen needs a theme that he can call his own, separating him from all the other tanks and ninjas in the game.

  • Shen is the Eye of Twilight. What does that mean? He watches the stars. Why? To make tough decisions. For who? The Equilibrium. All of this lore is completely cast away in game. Shen's kit should reflect more on who he is.

  • Shen's lore is pretty shallow for today's standards. It should be added on to. (Also I thought is was kinda odd how Shen is described almost as an unfeeling sociopath bound to a seem but his efforts against Zed were "heroic".)

Shen's Kit

  • Shen's kit was made in an era that simply no longer exists. A time where tanks were given seemingly random AP stats. These stats even got buffed so AP items would become more useful if not core on him. They never did. If you search for some of the top Shen builds today few will use any AP if at all. No other champion has four scaling stats that are wasted as such. Shen needs new ratios that works with items he actually builds.

  • Back when Shen was made, a dash was a pretty rare thing and as we all know that's no longer true with champions such as Yasuo and Kalista. If a dash is the only thing that makes Shen ninja-like then Yasuo must be 10x the ninja he is. A dash does not make a ninja. Shen's kit needs to reflect a ninja-tank.

  • Although it's debatable, I find Shen's kit can be boring. After the laning phase your q(Vorpal Blade) and your w(Feint) can feel extremely useless, even if they're not, since in team fights vorpal blade seems to be doing minimal damage and feint, doing nothing more than faintly shielding yourself, feels like a waste of energy. You're rewarded for hitting multiple enemies with your e(Shadow Dash) but it has an extremely small hitbox and in most cases catching 3 or more for and engage is simply a bad idea since the taunt only lasts 1.5 seconds. After taunting 3 or more enemy team members they will simply ignore you and go after your team. At more than half his energy Shen gets punished for using his and missing. I think is is unfair due to how narrow his Shadow Dash hitbox is currently.

  • Shen's ult is extremely long. I saw that Rek'Sai's global ult originally used Shen's ult cooldown as a reference. It was very clear this was way too long for what it was worth. I feel the same is true to Shen to a lesser extent. At Rank 1 you have to wait more than 3 minutes to give someone a 250 health shield. That's 3 auto attacks for most champions or a non ultimate ability for some mid laners to break it. Not only that but there a lot of things that can go wrong with Shen using his ult: His channel can be cancelled, his ultee can die, his ultee could run away or get could get counter ganked. Not only that it can also feel like Shen is being punished for using his ult as he has to leave his lane open. If Shen's ult isn't successful he loses gold, xp, and possibly a tower and gains a 3 minute cool down to throw salt in his wounds. In our current meta it's common to see a toplaner take the summoner spell teleport almost making Shen obsolete. The question is "Why pick Shen who has a teleport for an ult instead of Renekton or Nasus who can take the summoner spell teleport and then ult when they get there?" have the larger team fight impact.

  • Shen thrives when he is ahead but when he isn't he's more useless than a LeBlanc that can't burst (A tank that can't tank.) Shen has no fallback pattern. He's just always building tanky. Since his items (Sunfirecape, Randuins, Warmogs, and Spirit Visage) have been nerfed. Falling behind with Shen is more common. I think Shen should be able to rely more on the contents of his kit and less item reliant.

P.S. Sorry for so much text. I thought it would be shorter.

Shen Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING! The shadows betray you, because they belong to me!

Zed I killed your dad

Chespin201312/29/2014, 6:46:50 AM2 votes

Barbwired Mind12/29/2014, 8:50:08 PM2 votes

Idk if it's just me or i'm the only one here who see's this as very very over rendered and his equipment is just TOO small.

BM Riven NA12/31/2014, 2:47:02 PM2 votes

Looking at your in game model makes me think so much diffrent than I did of shen but he is a tank I would love for shen to have bigger muscles it seems like that would help because tanks are huge

The Soulforged12/27/2014, 7:55:42 PM1 votes

Tbh his skin tone contrasts too much against his armor to be a ninja. You wouldn't want to be easy to see as a ninja.
