The Hitch Hikers guide to Champion Concepts
Hello everyone, this is a sanctuary for anyone who is just starting to get into making champ concepts. This is here for a resource for people to understand what makes a concept stand out and any comments that can aid in the validity of this guide would be of the greatest benefit.
Why make one of these?
Yes posts like this have been made before but frankly the production of champion concepts by the community have grinded to a halt and I feel as though people need a bit of a push. Plus one of these hasn't been done for a bit.
I'm going to go over some of the common suggestions first then give some concepts that I feel have been an incredible benefit (NOTE : There are plenty of concepts out there yet these ones have appealed to me the most. I will make another post with the concepts at some point.)
#1 : Uniqueness
This should be your first ultimate goal before you even come up with a role for your champion let alone any abilities. Impress us. Catch our attention and make us want to go through your concept. If you are making another sword guy show us why he is different. League has plenty of those explain through game play (what makes playing this guy enjoyable? Skills, Role, etc) Variety (what makes him feel different from others?) This is what I would consider the most important aspect as you can have incredible game play but until it feels different from anything else in League it is going to fall short. If all your other parts of the concept work together then uniqueness will arrive with it.
#2 : Game play
Right behind uniqueness, game play will help a concept not only stand out, but makes a champion either a great benefit or a massive mess to Leagues champ pool. There is no one way to do this part of the concept and is entirely based on the authors imagination. Get creative. I can't tell you what to do for this, its all you however I can give a few pointers.
Do not have to much CC
Try and make all parts of the kit work together
Make sure it relates back to the lore.
Having to much CC will just make the champ feel unfair to play against and can lead to your champ being broken or OP. Like don't make a marksman have a passive that fears on each auto attack, that's just wrong. Change it to something like every 12 seconds the next auto fears.
Be fair.
Having a unified kit helps for clarity and makes the kit feel complete and not all over the place and bring it all back to the lore. If you have an ability that makes no sense to your lore it will be out of place.
#3 : Lore and Art
Who is your champion? This is how you tell us. Give him a story that is epic. Make it cause the reader to cry over how beautifully it is. Okay you don't have to do all that but the lore gives us an idea of what your trying to make and helps us see if your kit matches your image. Also art helps us get an idea of what your champ looks like. You don't have to be an artist just find something someone made to use as the best representation.
(NOTE : STATE YOU DID NOT MAKE IT AND GIVE CREDIT TO THE AUTHOR)
#4 : Formatting
Look at this page. Increased font for titles, boxes for key information and italics for lore. If you are writing a crazy long lore put it into a google docs then place it on your page. In general make your post neat and professional. It looks good and is easier to read.
#5 : The Feels
This is when a concept or any part of literature makes you smile and you think to your self " that was epic " this is simply the only I can describe what this is and by no means feel disheartened if you did not capture this feeling when you write your concept. Its incredible hard to do and I sure haven't done it yet. Its not a very important aspect of the concept really but what this does do is it makes your concept stand out more and anyone who does read will never forget it. Out of all the concepts I'll go over at some point, the only concept that has done this is Virgil the Story teller but we'll get to that later. If you can pull this part off I say good job and to anyone else wonder how to actually do this I say use your words sir, >use your words.
Examples
These are the concepts that have stood out to me as revolutionary and each would be a substantial addition to the game. (except Avon but I'll explain latter)
**NOTE : I did not make any of these except for Avon the Transcendent which is mine. **

#Why did you put your self in there?
I did so because its a good example for people to see what a google docs looks like on a board page and also shows you how to make a balanced concept in the sense that it will have its share of pro's and cons. I would never stoop so low as to compare my concept with any of the ones above as that is for not me to decide but you guys.
#Conclusion
I hope this helped out people who are struggling with concept design and I really hope we get more of them out there. I will be making a chapter 2 to this guide going in depth on what makes each one of the concepts above successful (or what i think makes then successful) Until then add any suggestions below.
