Avon the Transcendent [REBORN] The Dragon Knight of the Rift
All right welcome back to anyone that followed my first concept for Avon. I took a break for a while when I got an email from ZenonTheStoic. To anyone who does not know, he is a champ designer who brought us our beloved
. He told me what he liked anout my champ and what didn't work while encouraging me to keep working on it. He said the following :
"...Your character is a two-part concept, rider and mount. This is a cool thing we've never been able to pull off, but it's clearly a concept that we want to have in our game. Sejuani and Bristle are basically one thing, Quinn and Valor feels more like a form swap than a "I call my animal companion".
I was very happy to hear a Rioter reflect my thoughts as well. We don't really have a true two concept champion that feels that both are dependent on each other to be successful. I won't explain the whole email but basically my original concept didn't bring anything new to League in the sense that all the abilities were very familiar. So I worked. researched how articles on mythology define a dragon and how that compares to the definition in today's society. I concluded that we missed some things. A lot of things to be frank. Taking this info I worked on making a kit that fits the role. There is a reason why our current two concept champs are more for animation and visual flare rather than contributing together because it is extremely hard to pin point how a two concept champ would work and harder to make it balanced.
Trial and Error became my best friend as you could imagine.
so without further delay let us begin.
WHO IS AVON?
In a sentence, Avon is the rider while Kosomic is his dragon. There here in the rift after Avons city was abolished and him and Kosomic were left seeking adventure and fighting so no one will have to face chaos like what happened at Calvenon (the city). If you want to know more lore's below.
Here's the full lore if your up for it. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E9aKxM59UJuQopomFqEz0eXf5J4Sbl9hdOtkbu6xfW4/edit?usp=sharing
HOW IS HE UNIQUE? Avon's primary role is as a top laner and secondarily a jungler. He is the first champion to have two resource systems for each Avon and Kosomic. This was necessary as both required their own set of abilities for the two concept champion to feel successful (will go into greater detail about this in the end. There is a dismount system in place where your dragon hunts down a target and your left as the rider to travel on foot separately. He will also be the first champion to have two ultimate's and before you scream OP in the comments, read the passive to get a better idea.
First we have to go through the passive before you can get a grip on how the champion will work
Passive - Eternal Ties : Avon and his abilities cost mana while Kosomic's cost rage. Rage is generated by Avon on every auto attack and spell cast that successfully hits an enemy. Once a certain amount of rage is reached, Avon's abilities will be replaced by Kosomic's. Once one of Kosomic's abilities is used, all rage is reset back to zero. Avon and Kosomic share the same cool downs. Based on the ability Kosomic used, they get a small buff for the next few seconds.
- Torrent - Avon's lance is ignited by the fire, making his next auto attack in the next few seconds to deal bonus magic damage based on his level.
- Untold Power - Avon generates a spell shield to absorb the next enemy ability that lasts for a very brief amount of time.
- Pursuit - Avon gains bonus movement speed when moving towards the target Kosomic is attacking.
- Transcendence - Avon gains a small increase in tenacity until out of combat.
**WHAT THE FLIP DOES THIS ALL MEAN? ** Basically it means you have to be VERY careful in which of Kosomic's abilities you use when they become available. For example, If you use Pursuit to try and finish off your opponent and the enemy jungler is ganking, YOU HAVE NO ESCAPE as you cannot use Velocity to get away because it's now on cool down. I really want to emphasize, using one of Kosomic's abilities puts Avon's corresponding ability on cool down. You use Kosomic's ultimate, you then cannot use Avon's ultimate until the cool down is done. In other words CHOOSE WISELY. But you do get rewarded from passive if you pull off the right move at the right time gaining short buffs from the passive.
Now that that's all out of the way it's time for abilities.
**ABILITIES **
Note - to make the reading easier
represents Kosomic's abilities
Q – Soul Seekers Fury : Avon empowers his soul seeker lance, increasing attack range slightly and steals armor from the target hit with each attack for the next five attacks. If all five strikes hit the same target, the lance bursts with light dealing true damage based on the amount of armor stolen.
Torrent : Kosomic fires several fire balls in front of him, engulfing enemies hit dealing a flat amount of magic damage then magic damage over time. Enemies hit by more than one fire ball are charred, taking bonus magic damage. Enemies cannot be charred more than once during the ability and the magic damage of this attack scales with ability power and magic resistance.
W - Mystic Embers : Avon release an orb of pure energy at the target location. allies near the orb are healed each second until the orb dissipates based on a percent of Avon's max health. Enemies near the orb cause it to explode into three embers dealing magic damage to near by enemies based on Avon's ability power. Enemies can be hit multiple times and all enemies hit are blinded briefly.
Untold Power : Kosomic's scales become as hard as iron gaining a massive boost in armor and health regeneration but has lowered movement speed for the duration
E - Velocity : Avon boosts Kosomic, granting a massive boost in movement speed for a few seconds, during this time Kosomic can fly over walls and can move through units but takes increased damage from ranged attacks
Pursuit : Dismounts Avon placing Kosomic in the world. Kosomic is uncontrollable but goes after the selected target. Kosomic is immune to CC but has a health bar similar to a ward where spells and auto attacks lower his health by one each time. At any point when Kosomic's health bar reaches zero or if the enemy becomes untargetable, he retreats back to Avon. Avon's ultimate is disabled at this time but Avon can use E again to call Kosomic back early
R – We are Legion : Creates a wall of energy and charges forward. The wall absorbs the first few abilities hit and reflects a part of the damage back to the attackers as a projectile. The projectile is homing but can be blocked by other units. At the end of the charge, the wall rushes forward as a shock wave doing increased magic damage the closer the targets are. Avon is immune to disables during the charge and damage scales by max health and ability power.
Transcendence : Kosomic dives forward, snatching the first enemy champion off the ground. Kosomic rises in the air before plummeting down to the ground. The impact releases a shock wave dealing moderate magic damage and knocking all enemies a far distance back. The original enemy taken is stunned and takes massive physical damage. The damage is based on Avon and Kosomic's armor, magic resistance and attack damage.
SO WHATS GOING ON HERE?
Well I'll start by explaining them in order.
Q - Mainly the Q is offensive, its cool little ability similar to a wits end for armor. You get some range as you should for a lance and a true damage reward if they actually let you smack them.... five times in a row... basically the true damage is not going to happen very much and was more made if you play him jungle where the extra armor lets you last in the jungle early and the true damage for clearing.
Torrent - One reoccurring theme with dragons is to possess some sort of power and fire was the most common. You knew it was going to happen with this champ and I did not disappoint. I would like it to function similar to a
Q but with successive burts for each fire ball. This is your ranged poke.
W - This is your defensive ability when you need an edge in dueling. Throw this behind you to heal up a bit or on an ally while throwing it at an enemy blind them saving you from taking an auto attack to the face.
Untold Power - Dragons are well known for there resilience especially in mythology where they are treated almost like gods if you go way back. This suits that role well gaining armor and regen, people are going to have a hard time hurting you at the cost of moving slower. Pop this when you know your enemy is committed to fighting you to surprise them when their burst doesn't leave much of a dent.
E - This is where it gets fun. Your a dragon knight. Chances are your going to have good mobility and fly ( except
who I don't understand why they didn't animate her dragon form flying....) use it to engage, escape or chase people who flash over walls it does wonders for a bit of time.
Pursuit - This is the defining move of the build. This is what makes it feel like your working together and makes the two concept champ work. You split up from your duo and Kosomic jumps in on the enemy as a simple point and click ability. While their pinned, you can control Avon on foot to beat them down too. I just want to clarify that when Kosomic retreats from the enemy being untargetable, I'm talking about things like a
,
or NO LONGER HAVING VISION. ex they walk into a bush. There needs to be some counter play to this.
R - Push that charging
aside, this is the engage Avon's personality fits as he's more defensive. it protects your team from a few hits and does some decent damage to anyone a head for the battle. Enough said.
Transcendence - Want to completely tear your enemy in half? Want them dead in style? Look no further, his ult makes sure their not going anywhere. Nothing is more satisfying then dragging a stunned enemy through the ground with an explosion knocking all back. Dragons are known for there unmatched strength and this delivers them on a silver platter.
Really these ultimate's define two play styles, help the team or get your self fed. Will you do good for the many or needs for the few?
**TOO STRONG NERF
**
Relax, for a tanky bruiser he has his share of weaknesses.
- No reliable CC Oh you do have some but its all on Kosomic's kit where you only get to use his abilities occasionally once you get enough rage. Rage is a precious resource that takes time to build up which can and will break a team fight if you use the wrong move at the time. You got a blind which helps a bit but then gain
already is...
- No guaranteed escape Your E is good but it doesn't last long and CC can easily get you.
- Low damage Your early game will be pitiful with few items and not enough resistance to out last people in duels where your damage gets higher over longer duels. Late game this is a lot easier but until you get items, farm all day long.
- Shared cool downs This is a weakness made into the champ deliberately. You are not
where you mash your face into the keyboard to win fights. Each move needs to be planned for. I can't stress this enough.
- A lot of the damage is avoidable His Torrent and both ults are linear attacks similar to how a
ult goes straight in the direction it was cast. Its not that hard to move a little to the left
For pros he has his share of those as well.
- ** Great team fights** Your made to take hits and deal more damage the longer battles and your ultimate's can really mess with the enemy.
- Good duelist Once you do have some items your dueling is great and will surprise enemies with your damage output. Send them running then let your friend hunt them down.
- Great sustain As long as you have mana you are set like stone in lane. Not quite
kind of stuff but pretty good
- ** A tank with wings** You have strong mobility for a tank. Use it to your advantage.
- ** Gain damage by being tanky** This was done because frankly not enough champs scale with resistances. It fits your role as a dragon knight for being durable with damage
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE KOSOMIC? Like CO - SAUM - MIC
DOES THE RAGE MEAN FURY BAR?
No, rage will appear like any effect on you like the
Q stack counter, It will stay constant letting you know how much rage you currently have.
WHAT DO YOU PROPOSE HE LOOKS LIKE? Something like the dragon in the preview. Note that I did not produce this work and is for representation purposes only. Click it as the artist did an incredible job :http://www.deviantart.com/art/Dragon-Arethus-86673279
Well that's a wrap. If you have any questions/ concerns I'll answer them below.

already is...

kind of stuff but pretty good
in my opinion and most bronzes too very op. You gave this champion clear balances, if you were to make more champions which I hope you do I would definitely without a doubt check them out
:D
