@riot why is ekko getting another skin so soon

Yo Ecodeath!

So yes, ever since we moved from two lower scope launch skins per champion to one higher scope skin we have waited a bit to release new skins for new champs. In this situation our decision making was two fold: first off we loved this theme for Ekko and we didn't want his newness to keep the skin from being made, and secondly this is kind of a test for us. Do you guys like getting a new skin for a new champ sooner than later? We want your feedback!

I'm not saying that this is going to be something that happens normally now, but it is a test case for us. So yeah if the community hates it, or loves it we want to hear your opinions.

There are far too many champions, they cant please everyone. For every skin that comes out, many champions dont get skins.

My general reaction was 'Ekko gets another skin already? It took over a year for Diana/Lissandra/so many others to get their second skin since they decided to release only one skin on release, and Ekko gets his in two months. There had better be a good Diana/Liss skin in the works, Riot!'

So, we have tons of skins in various stages of production at all times. I can't speak on what skins are currently slotted but there any many and many of them are for champions who are in desperate need of a new skin.

We try and cover champions as evenly as possible in terms of skin cadence, but you have to understand that as the amount of champions total increases the time between each champions new skin will go up as well, this isn't a 50 champion game any more. I do agree that this should give us more incentive to prioritize champions who need some skin love.

As skins has communicated in the past unexpected issues, VU blockers, and in game events can also extend the times between champion skins.

I understand that you have 120ish champions to deal with, considering there are roughly 6 or so that aren't getting any skins in the foreseeable future because their rigs suck. I understand that these are relatively quick 750 skins; making Academy Ekko and Academy Ahri probably didn't take all that long as compared to a 975+ skin. I understand that I really shouldn't be getting annoyed that Ekko is getting a skin so soon; it should be a good thing!

But then I look at the terrible face on Lunar Goddess Diana, Dark Valkyrie Diana losing her headgear because people are stupid, and Lissandra's terrible skins, and I just get kinda upset.

I love idea to prioritize champions who have gone a long time without a skin (ignoring bot champions who are undergoing VU like Poppy/Taric, and "skins" that come from the winning team at Worlds) should be at worst number two deciding factor. Nothing worse than seeing a champion passed over who went a LONG time without a skin (Zac/Zed/Shen/Fiora [who didn't need a VU at all compared to the other old champions]), in favour of a new champion. I can see that causing a lot of friction with the player base. (Chromas should never be used as an example of a champion getting a new "skin" either)

So focus on the ones that need them more, and get them out sooner! Don't give excuses like that and then pump out yet another round of skins for champs that don't yet need them; that's just showing everyone that you're focusing efforts you could be using toward the ones that need it in directions that don't need it at all for quite some time to come. If you have "so many" in development as you claim,then get them done FIRST. Don't insult your community like this.

I am not angry at riot. One of my favourite champs Shen hasn't gotten a skin since 2012 whereas others like GP have 8-9. But I'm ok with it. Shen skins are still nice.. Especially after the TU and I don't want to discourage Riot from making an awesome skin simply because players who want their champ have a new skin rage. Where there's someone angry about not having a skin... There's another person elated about a new skin. The rager who desires a skin will have their's in time.

One champ who I love immemsely, that I can play with just the base skin forever is Malzahar and that's because I love everything about him (playstyle/lore/design) and also because he was the first champ I carried hard with :)

I think that most community would like get new skins sooner than later. However, many of the players (and defintely not only mains) would get salty if newer champions like Ekko, Tahm and Ao Shin got their second skin before others like Azir and Kalista.

So many older champs need skins so bad right now. As a Malz main I'm left with palette swaps and a really ugly overlord skin. And there are a ton of other champs in a similar position. So personally, no, I don't like it.

I think sooner better than later might be a good idea. Let's be honest, some champs are pretty old and are lacking in skins. IMO you guys might want to consider one high concept, one low concept per launch.

Frankly, it is a huge middle finger to a very large number of people waiting for skins for their champions. Where, for instance, is the Dragonmaster Swain skin that was promised three years ago? What about Zed, Bard, Azir, Yorick, Taric, or any of about a dozen others still waiting? C'mon, you were just starting to catch up by giving the likes of Zac and Quinn some love, don't blow it like this.

As someone who owns nearly 400 skins, I do have a few words on this.

Some champs have waited over four years for new skins (Yorick, Kassadin, Sion and Taric), yet Ekko gets one announced two months after release? Seems suspect at the very least, especially considering that this tier is regarded as the lowest in quality.
The other champs in the "Academy" line aren't starved for skin love, are they? Darius and Vladimir already have legendary level skins and their last ones were released less than a year ago. Ahri's going to be on her 7th skin (including Classic) and she already had a skin released this year!
With these skins, it seems that Riot's only interested in creating skins for popular champions (thus justifying their salaries as players make RP purchases) more than delivering high quality skins for champions that haven't been touched in years. (Blood Moon Zilean, King of Clubs Mordekaiser and Safecracker Eve being the worst examples of this.) I'm sure this isn't true, but in a year when a champion sees their 10th skin (Annie) released without apology, it doesn't feel false.

I'm all for allowing every department within Riot the freedom to release content as they want to, but I would hope that the focus is more towards correcting and filling their backlog of unloved champs.

it's a good idea, but porbably it would be better to please "older champ in need of skin" first before enforcing that vision.

The fact some champ get multiple skin per year is already seeing bad for these champ player, not putting them in front of the list when they have good rig (sion, tristana) just give this feeling of "favorite champ" thing. I know you guys aren't like that, you just do cool stuff if the champ fit well, but maybe it will be better some time that don't have a skin at all to not disturb the community (if we don't know we can't be mad^^)

I think we would prefer champions that are a year removed from getting a skin to be the one to receive something cool, and not the champ 2 months removed from being new.

Don't mean to sound rude, but I thought this was obvious when Yasuo got his new skins not long after he had come out as well and people were throwing a fit about it.

@Riot Galetta; The community loves skins on newer champions because new champions mean (As the receiver) Not much variety outside of game-play kit experience will be added. So to finally invite at least 3 new skins within several months time since release no matter how small, i personally see it as worth it. But as an artist, i know better. Good art takes time, and the people working at riot should cherish it as much as possible before nearing possible deadlines. I really would love it for y'all to keep taking your time to make these wonderful works of art, but we all know people are impatient and the community can be very picky.

Personally the Ekko skin is bad simply because in my opinion the theme doesn't fit him as well as others. But you know what? Y'all made a release skin and with that to compare to, i have something to fall back on and enjoy regardless, still throwing money at the screen but because you made room for variety. Plz be sure to let the people who put the time and hard work into making these concepts come to life did an incredible job!

This sort of quick turnaround has happened before, by the way. When Vayne was released in May 2011, the skins team released the Dragonslayer Vayne around three months later. It didn't go over well, as far as I remember, given how it felt like a cynical money grab by the company back then.

This just sounds like more of the same, and that the new team is trying to forget every lesson the company learned over the past 4 years.

Ekko and Ahri are fan favorites right now, so I'm not at all surprised that they're getting skins so recently after the release of their last one. The Ekko skin release makes less sense because he was just released this summer. At least Ahri's was a legacy skin released back in January.

I'm a little disappointed by all of this. A lot of us have to wait years to get a skin. Irelia had to wait a long time before they gave her a 750 RP skin recently. I'm sure this is great for the majority of people who main those champions that do get frequent skin releases, but just know that the rest of us don't appreciate it that much Riot.

Im like many others who Complain that some champs "need" skins because they have few of them or are "due to get one since its been awhile. I think that if riot could produce these many skins for any champions then i dont see a problem. Much like Mr/Miss GALETTA said they have many skins ongoing, i think that if you rush a skin and release it, because of the gamers are complaining, we wont get anywhere since 1) it would be shitty and/or 2) the theme would not fit. With that saying, i feel like some champions would need a VU or some sort of skin Texture change before they would receive a skin. Personally Diana classic and Dark Valkyrie Diana needs a texture polish or just an overall Update (game and visual), her texturing and coloring like a smashed palette that has been mixed. Maybe we should not complain about New Skins for X champ and look at which champs need some remodeling or texture refining. Just a thought.

We really need some Ekko skins... Sure the two skins we have are alright but not that great. Pool Party Ekko, I would go buy RP the second it came out. I have a skin for all the champions i really like, but Ekko, being my favorite, i don't have a skin for, because they are kind of lame skins. Although Pool Party would be my favorite option, i would buy Project or Arcade as well.
