@Riot Meddler - Why Karma's Fans are Better Option Than Mantle

Before season 2 if you asked any Karma main why they liked Karma so much it was because of her fans and Shield Bomb. Karma's fans were iconic and it was one of the most beloved things from her rework players missed. I will go into detail as to why the Mantle of Decorum is far worse than her fans, but I just want people to maybe be aware of how upset players were back then.

Long time Karma players are still extremely upset about the removal of her fans. This was a hard design choice the Developers made hoping Karma's Mantle of Decorum and Twin Dragons theme would be successful. It was not well received and the Developers back then had to rush and pay an "homage" to her fans with a dance.

Flash forward to today and we go to the Karma rework page and everyone is still talking about her fans and how iconic they were. This probably isn't going to happen and it is extremely doubtful Meddler will even entertain the idea of bringing back her fans. I would like to have community involvement and maybe an opinion about it. Feel free to give your own reasons why you think it should or shouldn't come back.

Reasons Why Mantle of Decorum/Twin Dragons Does Not Work:

  1. When Karma had her fans she at least had a reason to be wielding the fans. Karma was taught how to use her fans from Janna. The Mantle of Decorum, per new lore, has zero place and reason to be on Karma right now. Karma has not earned the Mantle of Decorum in new lore. Lee Sin has a connection with Twin Dragons in his lore.

  2. For the same reasons Irelia's Mantle was removed, it was just a horrible design choice where something else was better fitted. No surprise here but it was a weapon and it actually made sense for Irelia. The same can be done with Karma with the removal of her Mantle of Decorum. The fans could be a conduit for her abilities that make sure she doesn't unleash her full power (since she does have the power to take down an entire airship). The fans could be a weapon used by one of her past lives that she now uses to communicate with them better and channel her abilities from.

  3. It is extremely static and doesn't really move. Yeah, it's pretty and they have done some amazing things with it like a floating snowflake and flowers. Is it very interesting and fits her though? If she doesn't really interact with the Mantle of Decorum and it doesn't move with her, why is it there?

Reasons Why Fans are Better:

  1. It was something very iconic on her and everyone back in the day associated fans with Karma. No one says "Mantle of Decorum".

  2. Fans would be an instant hit in different parts of the world where it would be very appreciated.

  3. It wouldn't be static and the fans would actually move with Karma.

  4. So many intricate designs, themes and skin lines Karma could be part of with her fans. Half of the images below would fit a current Karma skin line and her basic model. Karma's fans could be her Star Guardian pets. Also, there could be much more interesting particle effects and attack animations done with fans.

  1. Trying to sell a dedicated fan-base the current thematic with her Mantle of Decorum fails in comparison to a fan wielding champion.

  2. Fans already exist on her model and even on Xeyah in a recall. It is possible to do something with Karma and fans without going all out.

Ideas for new particles for fans:

First example is auto attacks. Second example is normal Q. Final example is Mantra Q. She could also wave her fans to cast W, E, and Mantra versions of those. The same animations for waving her fans could be used, but the effects would be different with ability cast.

Completely scrap the idea of her Mantle of Decorum and Twin Dragons. Remove it from her model, splash art and the character period. There is absolutely no reason for Karma to have something so bulky and static that doesn't interact with her and isn't explained in her new lore.

I'm glad you posted that first quote. This is exactly what I meant when I said Karma was the sacrifice for all the successful VGUs that came after her.

That being said, I don't see why her mantle would need to be removed for her to have a fan - she's always had something floating behind her. There's no reason she couldn't have the mantle, twin dragons and a fan, all those things together would give her a solid, unique visual identity.

If Riot were to reintroduce the fan concept to Karma in her mini rework it would probably make more sense to give her a fan which isn't bladed, since blades clash with what Karma currently is. A more traditional Geisha style fan lends itself more to a female mage, especially a supportive mage. Also, I could think of many ways fan animations could be implemented into her current kit with exception of the tether (which would look best coming from her hand).

As for the visual effects... love them! So much more interesting than what we have at the moment. I think it would be nice to see her powers take the form of twin dragons with Soulfare and Shieldbomb, I can imagine it being somewhat similar to those effects.

I mean hell, Riot has pretty much been retiring the "mantles of decorum." Irelia was the only champion who had one other than Karma, and you can see that they removed it and replaced it with her arsenal of swords that she commands.

Karmas fans where part of her identity but they removed the very core of her being. When I first started league She is the only champion that stood out to me because of her iconic way of walking, taunts, and of course her fans. She was a strong black woman who needed no man.

But they messed her up and I have been on their balls about this since then. I went to play smite and I almost nutted when I saw the god called Change because I saw the glory karma ( or her slutty sister )
