Desruc - Fate Beserker | New Champion Idea

Desruc - Fate Berserker

Idea/theme: A true berserker champion is something I feel has been/is missing from league. An argument could be made that Tryndamere fills that fantasy I suppose, but honestly it feels rather weak to me, and he more so fills the barbarian fantasy. On top of that, League's list of anti-heroes rather minuscule, consisting of basically just Varus, and maybe Yasuo, so another would help colour the roster.

With that out of the way here's my idea for a new champion.

Lore

Prologue: Desruc was once the pride of the Noxian infantry, and renowned for his incredible ability despite his youth, and his camaraderie and trust, unusual traits among Noxians. A short few years in his service however, he learned that his wife had had a child, and abandoned the infantry to care for and raise his family. The Noxian officials were disgusted with Desruc's actions, and some called for his execution, but Jericho Swain suggested finding a way to 'encourage' Desruc to return to service.

Looking Too Closely: Over the next seven years, Desruc, served Noxus as a blacksmith on the edges of the city's borders, watching over his family, and turning down every request to return to service, but that all changed on the day of his son's eighth birthday. As Desruc was closing the forge for the evening and preparing to return home, he was approached by a man with a cane and a raven on his shoulder. "If you are here for a purchase, I am sorry but I'm closing early today."Desruc said. "I have no interest in blades, Desruc. You refuse to return to your duties." The man replied. Desruc was beginning to feel unsettled by the stranger, he was too impassive, and talked too softly. "You must be Swain..." "And you refuse to return to your duties." "My family are my duty." "I see..." "My apologies, but my time as a soldier ended almost eight years ago." "So it would seem." There was a silence for a few seconds, and Desruc quickly made up his mind that this was not a man he would like to continue talking to, but before he could say something- "In that case we will bother you no longer. Farewell Desruc." Swain said. "I... Thank you, sir..." Desruc quickly gathered his things and left for home, eager to get away from Swain as fast as he could. "Make sure to take care of your family." murmured Swain.

Truth is Like Blood: Desruc was very nervous. Jericho Swain was not the kind of man that should be wasting his time trying to convince a retired soldier to rejoin the infantry. It made him sick to think it, but Desruc was beginning to mistrust the country he grew up in. As he exited the city and began to follow the road to the fields, he saw two figures in the distance. Getting closer, Desruc realised they were what looked to be a masked Lamb walking on her hind legs carrying a bow, and shadowy Wolf's head with a similar mask. The Lamb looked up at Desruc and spoke: "Not yet.". Desruc was very confused. "Not yet? Not yet for what?" he asked. "Your time has not come yet." the Lamb responded. Now being face-to-face with the creatures, Desruc noticed blood around the Wolf's mouth and on the tip of the Lamb's arrows. "Have you been hunting?" Desruc questioned. "Yes yes! The small one ran, so I chased him down!" the Wolf exclaimed, laughing wildly. Desruc's unease returned. "The woman accepted it, but she was also regretful." added the Lamb. "Where did you come from?" Desruc wanted to be sick. "A house over the hill! The soldiers weren't happy too see me either!" the Wolf shrieked. Desruc put his hand on the hilt of his sword, and opened his mouth to speak, but the Lamb spoke first. "Please don't, human. I have already told you it is not your time.". The Wolf had stopped laughing now and had moved closer between Desruc and the Lamb. "We will see you again, Desruc. And when we do it will be your choice to make. We will leave you now, so you can continue on your path.". And before Desruc could object they vanished, leaving him alone in the road, with a hollow feeling in his heart.

The Devil's in the Details: Desruc was standing at the top of the hill overlooking what was left of his home. The cottage was blackened and ruined by fire, and Noxian soldiers littered the meadow leading into the forest. His son's body was lying at the base of the hill, his throat ripped out and, Desruc's wife was on the front step of the house, a single arrow in her chest. Desruc made his way down towards the house, stopping to pick up the body of his son, laying him down beside his mother. Going around to the back of the house, he took a shovel from the cellar. Upon his return however, there was a woman with silver hair and red eyes, sitting on the fence. "Who are you." demanded Desruc, pointing his sword at the woman. "Tch, how rude. How naive." she retorted. Desruc tried to remain calm but he couldn't stop himself. "Understand, woman, you are the fourth mysterious stranger to approach me today, and I am SICK of these games!" he roared. The woman shrugged, "I suppose that is fair. I am Nemynn, and I. I have all the answers you could want." "Forgive me, but I'm having trouble trusting you." Deruc snapped. "Naturally." Nemynn replied calmly. "You've been uneasy ever since Jericho Swain talked to you this evening haven't you?" "How do you kn-" "It is my business to know. And surely by now you know who is responsible for this." "It's because I denied them isn't it." Desruc whispered, lowering his sword. Nemynn stepped down off the fence, and walked closer to Desruc. "Yes." "And the Lamb and Wolf I met on the road. They are the Kindred aren't they..." "Correct. And this happened because you were, because you ARE. Weak.". Desruc knew what she said was the truth, but couldn't keep himself from falling to his knees. "However." The word caught his breath. "You can become stronger...". Desruc looked up, she wasn't smiling, but there was an aura of danger surrounding her. "You were ready to slay anything you could consider responsible here were you not, Desruc? I have the weapons that would give you the power to achieve this.". Desruc paused. His whole boyhood had been spent dreaming of a way to stop the fighting that plauged his country and Demacia, to stop the needless bloodshed. But right there was a choice between something that would not achieve anything towards his dream. And yet it was something that despite any moral reservations he may have had, Desruc couldn't bring himself to say no. "Do you have more." "For what purpose?" Nemynn asked eagerly. "I will bring an end to both Demacia and Noxus. This pathetic pointless fighting will end, at the end of a sword stained crimson if necessary. Once that is done, I will search for someone who can lead the world." Desruc stood back up. "Do you have that kind of power." he demanded. Nemynn paused. "That kind of power is not something for mortals. When used this power will feed off your life-energy. Is that something you are prepared to give up?". Desruc already knew his answer. "I have no life left to live, wherever this power feeds from does not concern me.". Nemynn betrayed her poise with a smirk. Holding her hand out in front of her, a glowing shape started to from in her palm. Light burst forward from the center, and when it cleared, she was holding two star-shaped swords. They were not quite as short as the standard short-swords the Noxian infantry used, but not as large as long-swords either. The blades were a spectacular silver that seemed to radiate, with a main blade that had two more on the sides about two-thirds down. Holding them in her left hand, she lifted her right and placed it on the middle of Desruc's chest. "Well then, let's make a pact shall we?"

Note: Nemynn is based off the Irish mythological goddess, Nemain, who "personifies the frenzied nature of war". Now moving on to his kit.

Sorry in advance if the "Latin" offends anyone knowledged in the language.

**Passive: Astrum-Blades ** Desruc's blades are divine weapons, and cause all his abilities to burn champions hit with Salvation. Salvation saps the resolve of those it affects, restoring 10% of Desruc's maximum mana on abilities that land on champions, and reducing their magic resistance by 5/10/15, stacking up to 3 times, lasting 4 seconds (No. is at levels 1, 10, and 18 respectively). Berserk effect: Mana restore increased by 10% and Magic Resistance shred from Salvation is increased to 10/15/20.

(Idea being divine weapons are easier to kill stuff with than earthly ones. Named Salvation due to general apocalyptic theme and cos poetic irony).

Q: Discindo Fidem

Desruc swing's his swords in front of him, and sends out a conal shockwave (500 range, cone shape similar to Syndra's standard 'Scatter the Weak') that deals large damage to the first 2 targets hit, and half damage to the rest.

Damage: 60/80/100/120/140 + 0.7 AP (first 2 hits) -> 30/40/50/60/80 + 0.35 AP. Cost: 70/75/80/95/100 Mana Cooldown: 11.75/9.75/7.75/5.75/3.75 Berserk effect: Desruc fires 3 additional shockwaves (1 on either side and 1 behind, for a total of 4 shockwaves), and cone size is also increased by 20%. Added cost of 5% of Desruc's maximum health.

(Idea being an attack that's got predominantly all of it's strength in the first 1/2 blows. Discindo Fidem is Latin for Divide/Cleave Belief/Faith according to the internets)

**W: Pactum Sors ** Desruc is ready stain his hands with any evil necessary to achieve true justice. Passive: Desruc's auto attacks are enhanced by starfire, dealing damage equal to 0.2 of his ability power instead of attack damage, and deals an additional 80 true damage to minions and monsters. Auto Attacks do not apply on hit or spell effects, but do apply Salvation.

Active: Desruc channels for up to 10 seconds, increasing his health by 10% of his ability power every second.

Cooldown: 50/45/40/35/30 seconds Cost: 5%/7.5%/10%/12.5%/15% of maximum mana every second. Berserk effect: 'Berserk Drive' is extended by 3 seconds when a nearby (within 1000 units) ally champion is slain.

(Idea being Desruc is ready to slay anything in his path if necessary, and will increase his power at the cost of his life willingly. Pactum Sors is Latin for Contracted Fate according to the internets)

**E: Diluvium ** Ranged Cast: Desruc propels himself forward a short distance (200 units) before teleporting further in the same direction (500 units). Upon arrival, Desruc explodes, creating 4 pillars of light (1 in front and behind, and 1 either side) that travel a short distance (500 units), dealing damage to targets in the way.

Close Cast: Close Cast: Desruc explodes, creating 4 pillars of light (1 in front and behind, and 1 either side) that travel a short distance (500 units), dealing damage to targets in the way.

Damage: 50/75/100/125/150 + 0.5 AP Cost: 80/85/90/95/100 Mana at all ranks Cooldown: 9 seconds at all ranks (Idea is to represent sudden fate. Diluvium is Latin for Cataclysm according to the internets [sorry j4])

R: Berserk Drive Desruc erupts, unleashing his full power, and entering his Berserk state. While Desruc is 'Berserk', his armour and magic resistance is set to 100 + 25 per 200 AP, the cooldown of Discindo Fidem, and Diluvium are set to 2 seconds, and he gains access to his 'Berserk' effects:

Upon exiting 'Berserk', Desruc takes an additional 25% damage from all sources for 8 seconds. Duration: 6/8/10 seconds Cost: 100 Mana at all ranks Cooldown: 110/100/90 seconds

Would synergise well with: -Zilean, Chronoshift would work as great deterrent and with the extra movespeed buff would give Desruc more time to carve the enemy team apart. Bonus bomb AoE is a bonus. -Bard, shrewd use of Bard's unique ways of pathing and the stasis from his ultimate could be used to set up the enemy to be right in the path of Desruc's rampage. -Kayle, see Zilean. -Kalista, put me in coach.

Struggles against: -Jhin, damage and range and snares oh my! Jhin has the range and damage to put an end to Desruc's shenanigans before they have even started. -Azir, as it turns out, Emperor's divide works really well on champions that have to run at you. -Nautilus, Desruc doesn't like hard CC, and Nautilus has all that in spades. -Soraka, heals and shrewd use of the silence will really blunt Desruc's advance

Special mention: Kindred. Use of Lamb's Respite from any Kindred (friend or foe) could make or break a fight for Desruc, potentially setting up an easy pentakill, or ruining all his hard work.

I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I've read through most of this page. The idea is good; I love that you attempted to do something with Latin in order to justify the abilities and their names. It's actually very well done. But the problem you're running into is that...Desruc doesn't really feel like a berserker.

Berserker's, at least to the extent of my fantastical knowledge, are warriors who drop into a blood-rage when they have sustained enough damage to themselves that their life is clearly on the line. Or, in some cases, they draw power from their wounds to increase their power as they are hurt more and more (i.e. Tryndamere or Olaf). Desruc, while cool in a few ways, doesn't fit the theme of "Berserker" you're trying to go for here.

If I had to suggest a course of action, it would be to review Desruc and try to take him down a different path to better fit the Berserker theme you want. Look up some mythology and try to implement what you find into his kit, his lore, his everything. I wish you the best of luck on the Fields of Justice and, as always; Stay Frosty.

Hello there! As a fellow CCOS participant, I am here as a good neighbor to review and help your concept. Let's get started, shall we?

Now, regarding the lore, of course there is much to be done (and you know that), but aside from it's current state, it is quite alright. We didn't had a man yet really questioning both nations at the same time while also tying to destroy both, so... it's unique I'd say.

To the kit...

The passive is quite interesting, yet I'd like to say, that straight out denying him the bonuses of magic pen doesn't sound right. Sure, he has his own thing, but in the end certain Items just have way less value, because his passive says so. You want AP and MR in one item? Sucks to be you, Abyssal has magic pen, now it is totally overpriced for you. And while Vlad's and Gallio's passive generate more worth and Jhin's passive shifts it, you shouldn't just take it away. Give him something in return.

Q is alright I guess. Nothing special, nothing out of the blue. Though I would personally cut the scaling a bit. Even late game Gyarados Kassadin has solid 0.7 to 0.6 scalings, so 0.9 may be a little overwhelming. Also, numbers. I only know that Talons rake has a 900 range because I googled it, but that was only me being curious. Other people may not be as considerate, so better add the numbers needed. And since we're at it: 900 might also be a little too long, tone it down a bit :P Also, since you named it "I devide peace" or your intended Findo Fidem (I cleave peace) it would be better fitting for an On hit effect, don't you think?

W again, denying items. I mean I could be wrong and they are still applied to the targeted enemy, but as your text suggests now, it just doesn't. Wonder how he feels about shopping. Besides, full attack damage on an AoE attack? Not even hydra does that. Be careful, this will be hard to balance. For the active, I am not sold. You actually have to pay mana to convert? Don't you pay already when you give up one for the other? With those ratios? On the other hand, this champ sure could need some healing, but mana? His costs pretty much explode, yes, but we have no information to what we should compare that mana pool. Maybe he has a lot of it. Maybe he decides to go for tear or catalyst. For all we know, he can regen mana for health, which seems... not that useful, really. Being a bruiser he is and without any missing health scaling, he clings to every life point he has.

What to say about the E? It is quite solid as far as I recon, good follow up after some good innitiation or for fights in general, but again, the numbers. We established now that Talons rake is 900 but compare that to the normal ranged attack range, 500. it seems quite overkill if you just wanted it to be a normal sized AoE, even Gallio's Ult sits at a range of 600. better adjust that. What istn't really a problem, but what I personally would see as a nuisance is the compass direction thing. I think it would be pretty easy to sidestep those, maybe not on the blink, but on the melee cast. Also I don't quite get what the additional dash is for, if you're gonna blink anyways.

Your ult is... concerning. While I can get behind the "Full power phase" thing, I really, really dislike the hurt your own mates part. That is just not something you should do. Now, I get it. This is supposed to be a trade of for the immense power he is supposed to get when he chooses to unleash himself. But damaging your allies is a big no no, for a good reason. Trolling and collateral damage. While the first one is obvious, the second one applies to all team fighting ever. You can't ever join a team fight with full power, unless you want to kill everyone. Which will get you 9x reports. You will feel bad not being able to jump right in, not helping with all you have, sitting on your Ult and thinking "I could, but I shouldn't". That also only makes him somewhat strong in a 1v5, but for that he also lacks the needed CC. That is why this shouldn't work that way. This is why in fact there is in fact no ability that damages your allies. In general, damaging them is the last thing you want to do.

Whoo... That took a while. I hop I haven't been to harsh on it, so always remember: I may not be able to see the hidden genius behind your decision, or I was just tired. If you want to take a look at my current concept go see Zurel & Sec, The Unlikely Kin. Maybe you can tear some holes there too :P

Anyways, have a good one!

Ok the whole concept I will say is.... interesting. I feel like you're going for some sort of AP brusier/ juggernaut, which overall I actually have tried coming up with one myself ironically, but I feel some things are a bit off

Passive: I like the feel of it overall but I'm just a bit confused. Does this Salvation apply when he hits any champion with an ability or does he first need to attack the champion first and then use abilities to proc it? Also I'm not ever really too pleased when people try to make champions can't but certain items. If this is because of balancing the passive magic pen. you may want to consider adding a cooldown on target for it. Like, whenever you proc it on an enemy champion there is a short cooldown before you can apply salvation to the target again.

Q: Not a bad ability overall but personally I feel the AP ratio of the first two targets hit may be a bit high. May want to consider lowering it to say .8 or even .75

W: Again, the passive of this denies you items which again, I don't really like. Also as much as I love cleave effects having a full 360 degree attack is a little much. As for the active I'm very confused by the wording. So the lowest % of health is converted into mana which has a higher %? Why would you want to convert your low health into more mana? I may be reading it wrong but, not trying to be rude, you might want to word this a bit better. Ok I reread it and from what I can tell it just makes every thing equal but I really don't think this is that great of an ability. Say you have like 5% of your health left after a huge fight and you have 10% of your mana left. If you do channel you'll still either have say 10% health or 7.5% health if again I'm reading this right. I feel like you could come up with something a bit more interesting.

E: Nothing too wrong with this besides maybe some distance numbers and the compass projectiles

R: Uhhhh.... wow. I really don't know what to say. First having your Armor and MR preset and then added on for every AP you have isn't that bad of an idea but the 2 second cooldown on two of his abilities and becoming immune to slows like an ulted Yi really put me off a bit. But what really makes me not like this are the additional effects. Dealing damage to all enemies is one thing, but dealing damage to everyone including your own team I feel is way too far and would never fly. I also don't like the fact that your Q gains so much more range now and also shoots out cones like your base E and your E now is almost the same thing along with the blink range being doubled. But now having your attack range set at 500, even though you're suppose to be a berserker with melee weapons and you also slow with your attacks.... I'm sorry but this is really just the worst part of the kit. It just adds way to when you activate it. Plus how long does he take this addition 25% extra damage for?

Overall I feel this guy has some potential but there really is still a lot you could do with this guy. The ult I feel just needs to be completely reworked or at the very least toned down a bit if you're going to make it a combat steriod, add some more numbers in for actual ranges, and just polish up some of your other abilities.

I thought I'd drop by since your name intrigued me. I would like to say a few things.

Desruc is ready stain his hands with any evil necessary to achieve true justice.

First things first, I believe what you want to say is, "Dealing additional/extra damage equal to 0.2 of his ability power and dealing an additional 80 true damage to minions and monsters." That is assuming I understand the ability as extra damage on auto-attacks- which may not be the case. Instead, if you truly want it to replace his AA damage with this new effect then instead I think this is a bad idea for an ability- no AP champion outright just ditches their basic attack damage. This ability would mean a Desruc that is put behind is then going to stay behind since he'll have a very hard time CSing without gaining AP via items- which require the gold from CSing. Also, minions don't have resistances- all damage is True Damage to them.

Secondly, is there a limit to how long this health lasts? Because if it's permanent like Thresh/Nasus/Veigar/Sion then you have a problem here- those champions all require interaction with the enemy laner to gain their stacks. Desruc doesn't. It makes for a very lackluster enemy experience.

For another ability- I'm not sure I like how your ult hard-resets his numbers for Armor and MR. It makes him outright penalized for building tank stats since it can take them away when he ults. I get that he's meant to build AP, but the possibility of this backlashing on someone is fairly high.

However, all of that aside, I unfortunately do not get a real Berserker-vibe from this champion. So much of his kit and abilities are based around flashes of light and power- he honestly comes across more as an ally of Kayle perhaps. Tryndamere fits because he refuses to die, battling forwards through sheer fury and continuing to fight after he should be dead, and screaming at cowards too craven to fight. Olaf fits because he wants to die, he just wants to die fighting his best and most furious against a powerful foe, he'll happily give his own life to beat up something. By contrast, Descruc doesn't evoke the same feeling to me. He feels more like a divine force than a berserker.
