Champion: Saje, the Energy Thief.

Primary Role: Mage Secondary Role: Assassin

Overview:

Saje is an agile mystic assasin, a prodigy in sacred teachings of magic as well as martial arts passed down over generations. Being a jack of all trades Saje is able to go toe to toe with any opponent. He keeps champs at bay with his powerful arcane arsenal and flawlessly evades their efforts at attack. He is so illusive and cunning he can stray your attention eslwhere as he goes in for the kill denying you any chance of escape. They'll never see it coming... I gurantee it it! - Saje

Instead of energy/mana Saje has an Orb Gauge which holds dark matter. He generates 1 Orb of matter every 10 seconds. Minions and small monsters have a 50% chance to drop orbs whereas cannon minions, seige minions and large monsters always drops 1 Orb upon death. Champion kills drops 1 Greater Orb which is equal to 5 regular orbs. His Orb Gauge has a max cap of 25 Orbs (regular).

ABILITIES

[Passive] Cryptic Rogue- Switching between range and melee stance grants Saje stealth for 4/7/10 seconds, stealth applies 1 second after his last spell cast. (The ability Masquerade does not trigger this passive). This passive has a static cooldown of 10/8/6 seconds at lvls 1/7/13. While stealthed Saje's next basic attack will Inflict fear onto his enemy for 1.75 seconds. (Inflicting fear only applies to stealth given from this passive and not other forms like BRUSH). (Dealing or taking damage removes stealth.)

[Q] Ki ju Blast/ Zen Runner- (Toggle). Saje can switch between a range and melee stance applying on hit effects after each switch. Cooldown 0.5 seconds.

[Q] Ki ju Blast- Range 550. Costs 2 Orbs of Matter. While in this stance Saje's basic attacks deal (2x lvl) +20% Ability Power as bonus magic damage and Marks them with the "Leeching" stealing 2.5% of the target's Ability Power stacking up to 5 times, after 3 seconds of not attack the target he loses all stacks. Switching to this stance will cause Saje's first basic attack in this stance to deal 30/60/90/120/150 +50% Ability Power as bonus magic damage.

[Q] Zen Runner- Range 125. No Cost. Grants 25 bonus mov speed and 15/20/25/30/35% bonus attack speed. if Saje attempts to auto attack an enemy unit marked with Leeching in the Zen Runner stance he will instead dash to the target consuming the mark dealing 50% total attack damage +1 every 5% missing health as bonus attack damage.

[W] Apparition Gate- Cooldown 15 seconds. Will summon a Spirit that lasts for 35 seconds, revealing the area around it. The spirit does no damage on it's own but Saje can recast the ability to detonate the spirit dealing 80/125/170/215/260 +80% Ability Power as magic damage. The Spirit has no armor or magic resist yet has 300/425/550/675/800 hp. Ally's near the spirit gain 50% increase healing from all sources and are granted 5/10/15/20/25 bonus Armor and Magic Resist. The spirit points in the direction of the closest target visible or stealth, it cannot detect targets further than 800 units.

(Zen Runner Mode) ** Stasis Screen** Saje creates a dome of energy blocking enemy champions and projectiles from entering. Dome has a 600 unit diameter. Saje can use this dome to shield himself and allies or capture enemies. Lasts 2.5 seconds + 1 every 200 ability power Saje has.

|E] Masquerade/ Spectral Mist- >Cooldown 8/7.5/7/6.5/6 seconds.

(First Cast) Masquerade- Casting this ability makes Saje's health appear below 25%. Last for 4 seconds. No Cost. (This spell does not trigger passive).

(Second Cast) Spectral Mist- Cost 3 Orbs of Matter +5% current health. Saje turns into smoke becoming untargetable Dealing 5/10/15/20/25 +2.5% of the targets max health as magic damage per second for 5 seconds. When as smoke form Saje can pass through small terrain.

[R] Matter Infusion- Cooldown 160/130/100 seconds. Costs 4 Orbs of Matter. Lasts for 10 seconds.

(Passive) Whenever Saje's Orb Gauge reaches a max cap of 25 Orbs He gets a buff that reduces spell damage taken by 40%. Lasts for 1 minute. Cooldown 1 minute.

On cast Saje can empower his stances, turning them into semi-ultimate abilities with special effects.

(Matter Infused) Ki just Blast- Cost 4 Orbs of Matter. Saje channels for 1.5 seconds draining life from targets within the area dealing 25/75/125 +6/9/12% of the target's max health as true damage and healing himself for that same amount. After the brief channel he sends out a skillshot ray dealing 175/275/375 +85% Ability Power as magic damage.

(Matter Infused) **Zen Runner **- Turns Zen Runner into a single-target spell. An illusion of Saje made of matter dashes up to 4 targets Dealing 125/250/375 +60 Ability Power as magic damage per Target. Gaining an additional dash if the illusion kills a target [CANNOT EXCEED 6 DASHES]. Cost 1 Orb of matter per target. Cannot multi-dash if their is only one target in range, restoring orbs equal to the amount of dashes left.

Recommended Item Build Offensive: item 3001 item 3135 item 3089

Defensive: item 3116 item 3102 item 3157

Pros: Good poke

Can switch to melee stance to conserve matter.

Benefits greatly from the moment speed buff of Zen Runner at all levels, and in combination with the Fleet of Foot mastery buying movement speed items is not a priority for him, so he can focus on maximizing offensive and defensive power.

Can scout jungle camps with Apparition Gate. Preventing ganks and enemies from taking buffs.

In addition to protecting himself and allies from enemies and their attacks with Stasis Screen he can capture enemies and block their passage through narrow areas.

Has good wave clear with Spectral Mist and can lure enemies into a trap with Masquerade.

Cons: Can run very low on resource if he is unable to farm orbs, therefore limiting what he can do and his threat against the enemy.

Can be burst down very fast from enemy makes and assasins.

Getting the passive buff from Ult isn't possible if Saje cannot reach a max cap of 25 orbs.

Isn't that aggressive until he gets his ultimate.

[STATS] Defense: 4/10 Attack: 5/10 Magic: 8/10 Difficulty: 8/10

Health 566.2 (+90) Health Regen 6.373 (+0.55) Dark Matter 25 Matter Regen 1 Orb every 10 seconds Attack Damage 56.7 (+3.75) Attack Speed 0.687% (+2.5%) Armor 22.88 (+3.5) Magic Resist 32.1 (+1.25) Movement Speed 335

I think its a fabulous idea, I main assassins and overall I like the idea. I feel maybe the orb idea (while very original) is a bit excessive, he sounds like hed be a great ap jungler. so I really like the idea

Thanks a lot for your feedback can you please explain what you mean by excessive, im not sure i understand what your getting at.

I mean I think the cost of the ability's lke 30 orbs for 1 ability may be a little high like something like rengar sounds a little better

Precisely, his kit does fill the role of an ap jungler. He can use his W as a massive ward. Iniate ganks with his Q and escape them with his E. His ultimate will turn the tide of teamfights. It is similar Lux's but with a smaller range., something like Vel'koz Ult.

Not bad at all.

This is a really interesting champion, there's a lot to think about and consider, which might be my main problem with the kit. Every aspect of this kit has at least 2 parts and then there are interactions between the abilities and the passive. I could imagine this being very difficult to play as and against simply trying to keep track of it all.

You and your opponents have to keep track of variables like your health pool and the number of orbs you currently have to cast abilities. Then you stealth on ability cast and can fear from stealth so you/they have to keep track of positioning and what stance you are in. You can dash to opponents on one ability but only if they are debuffed from one part of the same ability. You can also summon a tank minion that either is taunter or a clone you can take place of but you have to be in the right stance to choose which one. Lie about your health on the next ability on the first cast, next become untargetable and deal true damage. The ultimate doesn't seem so bad except for you are not ever certain of when you'll have the ability off cooldown and how much damage it will deal. There are alot of gates and variable conditions that affect that one ability.

Each ability is going to take up a lot of mindshare and the ability descriptions in game are going to be a bit ridiculously to read. I don't think this champ would ever see a free week rotation past the first. Not to say that complicated champs are bad but this one is a little much. If you could simplify one or two abilities or perhaps the passive, I think it would go a long way to making the champ more accessible.

Ya still a workin progress, thanks for your feedback. I know that each ability completely different, broken down will all these effects and conditions as well as everything you have to consider and monitor while playing him will make Saje too difficult for a summoner to control him. Me however like abilities where trick and knock enemies off their guard as oppose to doing just raw damage. Everyone complains about the ult because I guess it's too simple and not original since tbe have Lux and Vel'koz.

turkeyBACON2 votes

I guess I liked the ult mostly because it was so simple in comparison to the rest of the kit. Perhaps if you had one or two abilities that the rest of the kit revolved around it might help you define the character and what the ult should do and how it interacts with the rest of the kit. Right now, I would say his passive and his minion summoning is the most iconic parts of his kit. You might want to consider how his ult can play off those abilities? Just a thought.

Or perhaps if you came up with the lore, that might help has well. Right now he seems like he would be placed in Ionia or perhaps kumungu jungle. What happened in his past to make him an assassin? Why would Ionia or the Kumungu need an assassin? Or with a few tweaks he could be more tech based and be from Zaun or Piltover. Or perhaps he's like Malzahar/Kassadin and becomes void corrupted. Where he comes from and his goals can influence how you want his ult to feel.

Thanks for the advice, I am getting a lot of good feedback initially I wanted to make him from Noxus. In a family of assassins, him being the first one of his clan to master magic. With some good and bad scenarios. I want to make it interesting and captivating putting the reader in Saje's shoes. Not sure how to, I also want him have interactions with riven, all ninjas, yasuo, Lee sin and malzahar. I'm sure you've realise he bares some likeness to mal this was unintentional.

Help is appreciated, also please like the discussion by increasing the page number :)

Would this be Saje as in Sage or Saje as is Saje (sajay, like with an accent).

I don't see why that passive is needed with his ults base damage and scaling it should be more focused on higher health targets rather than low health maybe over 70% instead of below 30%. His ult,if you go full ap would be at least 3k damage alone at max level and full build

The reason it is at 30% percent health is to stop enemies who fall low hp from getting away, thus securing the kill. It also make for thrilling plays when you and an enemy champ are battling it out with low hp and you only win because of your passive making for an awesome turnaround. Believe me it will matter more at 30% because champs won't stop challenging you until their health runs low and this is good because they don't that once they reach a certain mark, they wont be able to escape. Plus it's just pure logic. Your not gonna run away if your healthy, your gonna run when your on the brink of death, thus experiencing fear. I hope i've made my point

Great concept, a lot of unique interactions and ideas brewing here, but if I may suggest a few things:

The passive is overloaded, it's really hard to fit both of those abilities on a single passive and not break a few things along the way. Stealth is very powerful, and combined with the execute passive (which I think needs some more prerequisites, as in an attack from behind or stealth) it can be lethal and easy to pull off.

I would shift the stealth to his E, that way you don't invisible Saje dealing true damage to you that you can't avoid. Adding on that, make the execute fear only happen if Saje attacks from stealth, adds more to the fear factor.

Here is a list of smaller changes:

  • W: Saje clone switch is too similar to Zed, and you'll need a variation. Instead of switching places, have Saje conjoin with the clone, destroying the clone but allowing Saje to move to its location.

  • E: Make the bonus gold kill only, or make it scale by level (10/20/30/40/50 gold on kill/assist).

  • Ultimate: You can do better here, and you know it. Think in terms of your passive, perhaps what happens at 25 orbs? Maybe keep the ability, but have an orb cost (though this is a weaker option). Think in terms of his theme: he's an energy thief. Maybe have him switch two opponents health? Crush an enemy with orbs? There are sooo many options, I encourage you to explore them!

OMG, you are so right thanks for your feedback. Alot of the things you said came to mind while makng. Like the passive being overloaded and the idea of what happens when his orb gauge is full. I these are areas that puzzeled me while making it but I now I now how to even out the passive.

Glad I could help! The first step (as you've done) is to be asking the right questions, the answers usually come when you realize:

  • Possible recourse(s) to fix the problem, where else on the kit can the ability fit/synergize with?

  • Where your kit stands, what objectives do you want to accomplish?

  • What are thematics of the kit, what sets your concept apart from the rest of the roster?

These are some of the steps I go through, not consciously thinking about them, but rather just keeping them in mind.

Lol thanks, add me on league btw same name as acc. If you have any other ideas just let me know cause to me the passive and Q synergize as wll as a mouse and snake. My whole aim is to make him tricky and fun to play like shaco while give him great utility and burst with low def.

Any Lore Ideas for this champion, i'm falling in that area :(

Lore idea

Future's Past - perhaps he was trained by riven, all the ninjas, yasuo, Lee sin and given the dark matter orbs by malzahar then sent back in time by Zilean to help save Runeterra

I like his kit, just not sure if the AS loss will hurt the effectiveness of his kit or not

Lol thanks so much Tamur, I find writing a good lore extremely hard. I was just gonna make him from No us and have Swain kill his parents who were former assassins under order of the former general, Darius's father. I kinda Luke your idea better.

I really love the artwork on this concept. I also like where you were going with the whole "Stealthy-Assassin" theme. I think the moves are are a little "all over the place" though. I wouldn't reduce the AS on Handblast, building AP to get the extra damage would kind of ensure that you wont be attacking quickly anyway. And as far as Raven's Dirk goes, I'd make his AA on a Leeched target hit with Magic Pen properties. Also, consuming the mark should do a percentage of AP damage. I dont think your Mage/Assassin will do enough DPS to build hybrid.

I could change the Scaling of Raven's Dirk to AP, wanna change the name oc that stance too but can't think of anything clever enough. As for the Atk Spd on the HandBlast it is to balance him so he isn't too op much like varus movinv slower while charging up his Q.

I know what you were trying to do. But keep in mind that a lot of champs have gap closers, dashes and blinks. DE buffing your AS would be a great hindrance, even with the bonus AP damage.

you see where the number 1 is in the top left hand corner between two arrows, can you guys upvote the page and not just the poll. It would be much appreciated because I am trying to get Riot to notice this.

ExecutorDill1 votes

If your worried about immobilizing enemy champs for an easy kill or avoiding damage. His W and E take cares of that, his passive just adds to the kill/escape potential with the fear and stealth.

I really love the idea, but if Rito does make this happen there's things they will change for sure.

I don't mind, just the thought of Rito deriving a champ from my main idea makes me feel happy and shows I have what it takes to be a champion designer. I just wish I could get some RP for it and a bit of shine on the pages and launcher for coming up with the idea.

I skipped straight to the abilities, read the passive and then closed the window.

ExecutorDill1 votes

Idk, I think a change is needed somewhere between the W and E.

ExecutorDill1 votes

Because Saje has movement speed buff on Q in Zen Runner stance, boots are not essential, allowing you for another offensive or defensive item :)

SpiceIsRight1 votes

Very interesting champion, here are a few of my thoughts kit-wise:

Passive- Neat idea, but I feel with such a long time and frequency of stealthing, there needs to be counterplay mechanics. Perhaps damage of equal to or greater to X% of Saje's max health causes him not to enter stealth after and ability and the passive still goes on the 7 second cool down.

Q- Fun concept, but a little too much going on here. I'd say make the Leeching Mark maintain it's interaction with Zen Runner, but remove the constant drain if autos in the ranged stance are going to deal bonus on-hit damage.

E- I don't think the smoke form is necessary. It's actually too powerful to give him this as well because of already having the stasis dome. I like the masquerade idea though. It would be cool to keep that as an active and modify the ability with a passive.

R- The passive is cool, but I think making the ultimate alter abilities is going to add far too much complexity to make playing the champion fun. This is especially true when consisting the burden of having the orbs as a resource (which is a fun idea but could really make him too dependent on what will be a rare resource).

If you had any suggestions for my champion, Maverick, let me know :)
