Fun vs Balance

I'm making this thread just to see which is more important to the community.

We're talking in general here, not specific examples.

So if there was a champion called "Killatron the overpowered" who's ult just executed the whole enemy team no matter what, this thread question would not include "is Killatron fun to play" vs "is Killatron a balanced champion"

Just in general, but specific to this game. Which is the more important focus to you. Would you be happier with this game being a lot less fun but more balanced, or a lot more fun but less balanced.

Before you answer there's a concept I think is important to consider. Fun to play as vs fun to play against.

Things being the former and not the latter is pretty much rule of thumb I think. Stealth is fun to use, but not fun to get surprised by. It's fun to use executions, but not fun to get executed. Fun to steal the jungle objectives, not fun to have them stolen. Before you evaluate something's fun factor, you have to consider both ends. Both ends matter, but I think the former is more important. Because if you put to much focus on avoiding things that aren't fun to play against, you'll run out of things that are fun to play as.

Most people want fun and confuse it as balance.

In my opinion, having good balance DOES make fun as long as we're talking about a competitive experience

For example, let's take Super Smash Bros. The items in that game are incredibely unbalanced, however in a casual setting can be very fun to goof off with. However, in more competitive events said items are disabled because they aren't balanced. Those items being disabled doesn't make the game unfun, it makes game more fair and competitive, which is fun in a different way.

Long story short, it depends on the game. In a competitive game like LoL, I'd say balance is more important, because balance is what MAKES it fun. If we're talking about seperate game modes like URF or something, those are places where unbalanced wackiness is totally fun and acceptable.

This is very clearly not the game for you. You seem more the type to enjoy solo games where there aren't any opponents.

Can I ask what does fun to play against mean? I’m having fun if I’m enjoying my champ, if I know playstyle and kit of my enemy, sure there are easier and harder matchups, but calling any of them fun to play against, idk.

Fun is just subjective matter and balance unfortunetely sometimes as well, for big part of community, it shouldn’t be tho. That might be problem, someone might hate Yasuo, but I, as Rumble player, enjoy that matchup.

So imo balance(unbiased one) > fun.
