You should NOT need to be a premade to get chests for teammates S's

Teh Song··177 votes·4,979 views

Premade or not, you are part of the reason they got that S, and sometimes you can be considered directly responsibly for it (usually the support-adc relationship in that case), and you should be credited for your efforts the same regardless of if you queued in with them or not. This requirement to be in a premade with then is ridiculous.

I even had an ARAM match a while ago where I was Nunu, and the rest of my team were more damaging champs. I of course built and played in an ARAM style of support. Naturally, they got the kills where I got assists. We did very well in that match, and when we got to the post game lobby (victory)...................................... they all got S's and I got an A+.

They all got a chest, but I didn't. Which for that match, was complete and utter bogus bull---t.

Remove the premade requirement for teammate-chests.

This, of all things, isn't going to be one of those mistakes that has to be posted every day is it? Because I've seen issues get fixed from people doing that before, but I really don't want to spend my time posting this every single day when it's such a plain and obvious thing to address that nobody should have had to bring it up in the first place, because it should have worked without premades to begin with.

Riot isn't going to do this because they want to keep chests relatively scarce, and with your suggestion they'd be giving out roughly 5 times as many chests as they currently do.

The real solution is to tweak the ARAM grading parameters to better accommodate what a "good game" is on that map compared to Summoner's Rift. The most obvious change is to make your CS worth way less while kills/assists are worth more. Right now, if you're trying to get an S on ARAM, the best choice is to selfishly try and take every single CS for yourself because how much they count towards your end of game rank. Support type champions that start with a spellthiefs end up with A's instead of S's because they intentionally take less CS.

Currently, if you want an S play Summoners Rift or the featured game mode, as they're basically orders of magnitude easier to earn them on.

Riot isn't going to do this because...

Actually the reason they aren't going to do this isn't to keep them scarce but to promote dynamic queue which is a system that they have since admitted is flawed for Ranked play. They worked hard and spent a lot of money on Dynamic Queue and want to ensure players are using it.

But if each champ you own is still gated to only 1 chest it's not actually that much more. Maybe you get the chest while trying out a new champ, or a champ you might be ok on. Is that really such a horrible thing? How many Champs do most people actually own? 20? 30? Most people would pick up a few more chests a season. I'd guess about 5 more chests. Considering they are completely random drops, that's not that bad of a situation for rito.

Kynami2 votes

I've been picking up every chest as it becomes available within ~24 hours. I also own over 90 champions on my account. Granted I've been playing since S4, but still...

I flat out can't get enough keys to ever clear out those four initial chests I got within the first 24 hours of the hex-tech system release.

Fair enough. Even without DQ, I assume Riot wants to encourage premades because groups end up being better in the long run for them. Peer pressure makes it harder for people to quit when their friends keep asking them to play. Not to mention seeing a friend buy a cool skin makes others want to as well.

The moral of the story is that Riot clearly doesn't want people earning chests easily because of the ridiculous stipulations they've put on it (must own the champion, must earn S, can't earn more than 4 a month, can't earn more than one with a single champion). Coupled with the key fragments being damn near impossible to get during the tail-end of your reset period means Riot is clearly afraid of giving away too much without getting enough purchases in return. They're not going to make it trivially easy to get a chest on every champion.

I own exactly 100 champions apparently (just counted in the client) and I've earned 21 chests. I currently have 2 full keys but no chests, with one available to be earned. But I play ARAM almost exclusively nowadays, so chests can be difficult to get as opposed to key fragments.

Can you blame them? I've already unlocked over $40 worth of content for free through the chest program. At 1 chest per week that's 52 chests per year you can earn. Plus the extra 3 chests (cause 4 were given at the start) and other additional chests through the year (Augmented cache, free initial chest). They're giving a potential of 18 skins away. Now.. not everyone will unlock ALL chests, and not all chests will have skin shards so the number is probably closer to about 9 free skins at max per person. That's a lot of otherwise paid content. Why should they make it any easier? They are after all, a business.

It's already pretty scarce when it's also gated by time needing a week to recharge each box, on top of having to own that champ, and only 1 box per champ per year. Another gate on top really isnt necessary.

On top of that it's pure RNG for what reward you'll get and multiple boxes are needed to actually give a permanent reward.

Agreed. Getting S on support or game modes where you're not in a solo lane to farm feels rather arbitrary and too heavily focused on CS while you often intentionally give the CS to a team mate that makes better use of it. In OFA I got so many S games in a row simply because I tend to be the splitpusher in this mode (as everyone else keeps teamfighting while minions kill turrets in the sidelanes).

In ARAM, more points should be based on damage dealt to champions, damage dealt to minions (waveclear is important here) and champion-specific stats like healing, (effective) shielding, buffs given, duration of CC, allied damage during this duration, etc.

It doesn't matter if you can't get keys.

Replace the premade requirementt for teammate chests. Add a bonus enhancement based on how the rest of the team performs. 4 people get S+, you might go from B+ to A,+ or A+ to S (the effect lowers the higher your unadjusted score would be).

This would be way better. I will readily admit there were games cough recent OFA match as Gnar cough where I played like a complete moron, fed my ass off, but got hard carried by a teammate to victory anyway. I shouldn't get a chest from that; it totally removes the "skill reward" aspect and makes the system feel even more like a total crapshoot than it already does.

Ugh... Gnar. I've had to play him twice in OFA this weekend. I'd rather play more Tank Zed Support than have to play Gnar again.

I admit that I had many games where me, as a Jungler or Support, assisted every lane in every possible way, making them so fed that no one could beat them and then let the snowball begin. In most of those games, I got A/A+, and it just felt bad... In those games I really try my best, and I feel like I did all the work for nothing but a very easy win.

On the other hand, it would be too easy to get rewarded for nothing. I had a significant amount of games where my Allies literally won them by themselves. They worked a lot and did amazing plays, while I was a mediocre player. Should I be rewarded for literally not doing anything spectacular, just playing a game?

Now the last thing that most probably some people will ask me is if you are in a group of premades, and one of them is carrying you, how is it any different from the situation above? Well, from my perspective at least, I tend to Assist my premades a lot more than the other players. I feel that I worked with them and that we were like a Team. Even if I had bad games, I still tried to help with whatever I could to maintain their Snowball/Win Condition.

In conclusion, I think your idea destroys the enjoyment of getting a chest. They will be much easier to get, and sometimes they will feel totally random. The Hextech System is made to reward Great Individual Skills (Personal Grade) and Coordination/Teamwork (Premades sharing rewards/Key Drop increase).

I think if they did do this they would have to limit it to you have to get a A- or higher (or maybe only A+) to get a chest from you team. That being said, this probably wont happen

You need to be in a premade to get a chest for their S? I'm almost positive I got a chest when my team mate got an S+ 0-0

Battlecast Sona1 votes

it will give you the message "a teammate has gotten an S+!" or whatever, but sometimes it's you/sometimes it's a bug

It WOULD be cool on paper but it would result in many undeserving toxic players getting free loot and people that haven't done much won't need to work for an S which results in more lazy playstyles.

LatetotheRace3 votes

"toxic players getting free loot" so... if toxic players have better but still toxic friends... I don't see how this would effect anything tbh.

I'd argue that you shouldn't even need a premade or another player's S. That rank should be achieved individually.

I'm almost inclined to agree with this. Either give everyone on the team a box for someone getting an S, or limit it to the person individually. The team has a part in helping that person get an S, not just the other duo member in the premade so all should get it. However, if the other 3 don't get it, the duo member shouldn't either.

OR since most of the time especially in ranked, people are playing their comfort picks anyways which likely already has a box, it would have different parameters for ranked and non ranked games. Ranked you just have to help anyone in your team to get an S and you all get it. It encourages those scared to play ranked to give it a try, allow you to make plays that's for the betterment of the team at the cost of dying vs scared to initiate costing you the S rank and should reduce trolling from KS or CS taxing just for them to get the S.

Normals people can play to practice new champs and would have to earn the S themselves or with premade. Norms tend to be much easier anyways so a slightly lesser reward

Hello I am Bird1 votes

I think the only exeption to this is Supp -> ADC

If the ADC gets an S it's almost certain that the supp is responsible in some way.

Ztoka1 votes

While this would allow more chests, unless they increase the key frag drop rate, it won't matter. Sitting on 4-5 chests each account as you can't get enough keys in a given period in relation to chests. So there is still that bottleneck. I agree though, it feels bad to help a temmate get an S only to get an A or something for helping. I think right now when you start a match, you have to decide if you are going to be a team player and do what will benefit the team the most (while hurting your final grade) or try to be selfish and get yourself that S. One shouldn't have to make that choice.. Not in a "team" game..

EpikFeeder1 votes

They really just need to get rid of cs being so important to your grade. Funny how you can go 3/0/15 as a support surrender at 20 and get an A. Like......thats S+, how could it be played better Rito?

Battlecast Sona1 votes

to be fair, the system compares you to other players. so really people just need to stop taking cs on supports in S rank games, lol

Kynami1 votes

Not my fault I can arrange for a ZZ and Banner push in an offlane if the game goes past 30 minutes. And yes, it gets me plenty of CS in the long run. Not mention more tower kills to my credit. Objectives are big points towards your grade.

Battlecast Sona1 votes

Yes, I'm aware. It's not that I am incapable of getting S ranks (I don't know why every time I post in these people give me tips for S ranks, I have a couple of mastery 6s and I don't even play that much SR...)

I have thought for a long time though that the mastery system (specifically for supports) needs tuning just because some supports are way more equipped for things like taking towers/creeps/kills than others, that's all. Like, you may feel that you can take a ZZ and Banner and push, but I shouldn't get an A rank because I chose instead to make Locket and group with my team - it should be about how effective my actual attempts to support my team were, not about whether I got more of a quantifiable resource than other people (creeps/objectives/kills/etc). It really needs to take into account things like damage prevented, imo.

Kynami1 votes

The ZZ and Banner are more something you can drop into a lane after a fresh back and then go back to grouping with your team. Trying to solo push as most supports is a quick ticket to suicide. But dropping that pair off into a lane provides pressure and assuming both teams spend a few minutes dancing around mid the occasional tower going down or somebody splitting to deal with the push leaving them down a man... allowing for objectives taken elsewhere.

Battlecast Sona1 votes

...I'm aware. My point was that a locket purchase is a more teamfight-focused purchase and you generally don't want both Banner and Locket since they're both Aegis-base items.

dunkeroni1 votes

If you're the reason people are getting S rank as a support, then you should already have an S anyway. If you don't then you're dying too much, not placing enough wards, or not getting enough assists (which would imply that you're NOT the reason they have an S rank).

Battlecast Sona2 votes

inb4 you can be like 1/2/30 with Janna and get an A- because you have 1 cs

dunkeroni1 votes

As a mastery 7 Soraka player, I can attest to the fact that an A- on that score means you aren't warding enough.

you've spent your time on the forums clamoring for our characters to have less CC, less mobility, less damage (because "we don't need it), less waveclear, less objective taking power, and higher mana costs...

rito has listened, and therefore we've all switched roles and became Yasuo OTPs.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Me? Nah. I've asked for damage reduction across the board, with reduced CC on marksmen/assassins to make them more team reliant while also asking for tanks to do their jobs and NOT deal tons of burst damage. I've also asked for less minion blocking and more defense on turrets in the early game, with stronger scaling nexus/inhib turrets with actual damage pen to prevent tanks from juggling the aggro for more than 10 seconds. (Mana costs are fine, even though these new changes to mana as a whole were weird they were also semi-successful so I won't touch it for the most part.) Very interesting position I got there, I guess I'm to "new age" for the boards.

This is stupid. It works like this: If your premade carries your team, they get an S and you get a chest. If they are dead weight, and you guys get carried by a random, you SHOULD NOT get a chest. Maybe you're not getting chests because you can't get an S by yourself.
