Captain Marvel isn't interesting so I don't think it matters who played her, like Greenknigth said

To be honest, Captain Marvel is a character so forced in, that it wouldn't really matter who plays her.

Mar-Vell deserves better.
Carol Danvers? Brie was fine but she can't improve Carol Danvers, Carol is a dull character, has always been. She's not the star at Marvel and can't sell a book. That said Amber Heard but give her Binary's mohawk look or put her in Warbird's costume and it would have been 100 times better. I'd take Mar-Vell, Genis-Vell and/or Monica Rambeau films over Carol any day.
I don't think Brie is a bad Captain Marvel, she was just meph overall compared to all the others.
Nobody could have played that role better.
She represented perfectly what a failure of a character the glorious Captain is.
Just remembering how intelligent her dialogues were, supported by her full-of-expression mug to make the picture complete, fills me with the desire to commit brick-to-ear.
