"We're increasing the burst windows for Assassins for counterplay"
but we decided that Vayne doing a whole assassin's combo in one Q + auto is fine xD
but we decided that Vayne doing a whole assassin's combo in one Q + auto is fine xD
Vayne is the epitome of burst damage as opposed to sustained damage with her recent q buff. It's ironic because, like most ADCs, she's really supposed to be more of a sustained damage output dealer.
Then again, Riot's latest freak ADC changes have been anything but sustained damage and more "I got this shot off on you for a 1k crit lul mechanics"

Or in Jhins case, he walks up ant 1 shots you with his 4th auto.
He wouldn't one shot you with his 4th auto, at least not any more than one of his normal autos critting. The only thing his 4th shot does is guarantee a crit and do bonus damage based on the target's missing hp. So the 4th shot will never one shot you from full hp, unless you would also be one shot by one of his basic autos on a crit.
If you had watched NightBlue3 from like 300000 subs, you'd realize how untrue that is :P
(He one shot a literally full HP Kindred with a red smite fourth auto)
Then that's just because he had enough AD that a crit shot would kill the Kindred from full HP. I am taking this from like 50,000-ish points of experience on Jhin (one more for level 7 but I suck at this game) as well as the LoL wiki; the only bonus dmg on his 4th shot comes from the missing HP of the target.
At least with Jhin it is easy to see when he has his 4th shot. The other two just have some faint glowly bullshit on their hands.
yeah late game in team fights good luck killing jhin. snares the assassin and one shots them,
it's easy as fuck for most assasins to kill Jhin late game. Unless he rng's hard most dmg comes from his 4th shot. specially with the penetration build that is meta currently. Best way to fk Jhin up is to pick a diver and stay on his ass coming from a wannabe Jhin main.
the problem is his 4th shot. i mean. his regular autos crit at 1+k damage. so he takes 2 autos to kill squishies
they need to fix theses armor pen builds
yuppp they are cancerous. specially on MF and Lucian. at least a lot of Jhin's dmg is dodgeable. You cant dodge lucian auto attack you to death with a perma 400+ mobility. Or miss fortune huge ass aoe ult that pretty much 3 ticks do 1k dmg
I wouldn't say the ult is why mf is so strong. I think it's because she just has so much damage and stats.
nh her ult alone makes her cancerous she doesnt even need the full duration mid/late game 3-4 ticks can shred everyone into retreat. And her Q dmg is fine since it has to excute a minnion 1st ( talking about lane phase )
MF's stats are actually pretty awful. Lowest AD in the game, yo. Her ult is her main 'thing'.
It's definitely the ult and Q second hit after killing the first target. During laning phase her Q can half health her opponents in one hit. Late game her ult alone can wipe out entire teams.
I have to be honest I am happy jhin is strong because unlike miss fortune, ashe and vayne he feels less frustrating to face as an assassin. Aside from his w.
this is true, unless Jhin builds attack/movement speed, in which case he's almost uncatchable without a root/stun (which many assassins lack) since he moves at the speed of light, has a long ranged root, and multiple traps that slow. Example (you should watch this, it's really fun): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_NhEhjkOy8
A good Jhin's burst doesn't typically come from the fourth shot anyway. Jhin can use animation cancelling to cram a fuckton of spells and an auto attack into a small window.
Yup seen that yesterday on Trick2Gs stream. The Jhin on his team was dia 1 or master and dayum he was a beast. First time i saw Jhin animation cancelling. I play him regularly myself but i didn't know this was possible. Have to train that.
Yeah let's give Caitlyn that Annie bar so we can look at her headshot counter.. would be nice.

It made a little more sense thematically, Considering that Cait is suppose to be a Sniper, and Jhin really is a sniper.
I really think Riot is trying to say that Sustain DPS is only a General guideline, and not a hard rule. If it was a hard rule, we would probably end up with fewer ADC, and they would be less unique.

Yes, and although there may be a little variation, it should never be to the point where something literally becomes a ranged assassin

Otherwise they would be assassins and not classified as ADCs, and should be dealt with accordingly.
Juggernauts aren't supposed to have mobility, garen has a speed boost, but that's moderate. The guidelines are still there for a reason.
Two ADC's already are classified as both Marksmen and Assassins:
,
.
Tristana needs a little help on that front right now though, she has slightly too much safety and slightly too little burst to pull off the assassin play style unless she's very fed.
Unless she goes AP of course, but that has far more bad matchups than not now.
They gutted AP Trist.
At least you can dodge Vayne's autoatta... oh nvm
:No. YOU can't dodge her autos
hi
Oh, whoops she had another one and my W is on CD now.
I have my ways
"ways"
Nice eyeballs you've got there, Vayne. It'd be a shame if anything happened to them.
You can't hit what you can't see
tell that to lee sin
brindness is not an impailment against a smerry enemy
Even if they finally realized Vayne becomes a huge problem in the future, all they can do is take away 5 AD.
Eventually last hitting in this game is gonna be hell for noobs. They keep shaving off AD and removing things that aide last hitting (RIP Spellsword/Arcane Blade).
Eyup. Vayne is frustrating as always.
Why her q interacts with crit I don't know. Its just bad design, and I think Riot is better than that. Buff her numbers if you have to riot, but get rid of that 425% ad crit. You can't possibly say a champ deserves that kind of one-shot potential.

Draven? Jinx?
Incorrect on Draven. The additional damage he gets from his spinning axes cannot crit. Not sure about jinx.
They made it so many adcs chunk you for absurd damage in one auto. Get right clicked scrublord.
I know OP was meant to be exaggerating, but at full build and without counting her ult, i.e. ~300 AD, a single Vayne Q crit can deal ~1275 damage, which is higher than the base damage of many assassin burst rotations. More generally, a 300 AD IE crit from any marksman deals 750 damage, which is in the neighborhood of a standard mage spell with a good amount of AP: Annie's Q, which deals 220 + 80% AP magic damage (which is a pretty high scaling for a basic ability), achieves the same damage at 662.5 AP.
There are, however, two major distinctions to this: the first is that there's generally a lot more armor around, which means marksmen autos tend to receive greater mitigation than most mage spells, even if you factor in Last Whisper, and the second is that casters can blow their entire rotation with little delay in-between separate abilities, whereas marksmen still have attack delays. This'll be slightly less true after the assassin update, but assassins still mostly get to throw out their abilities and move around a lot in-between, whereas marksmen need to spend more time in autoattack animations.
Overall, though, the very fact that the DPS of a marksman can be compared to the burst of a mage or assassin isn't a good sign. Vayne isn't supposed to kill squishies in three autoattacks, especially because her most iconic feature is supposed to make her a tankbuster first and foremost. Marksmen already have a ton of reliability through the safety of their range and their undodgeable autoattacks, and if they also get to have burst per second, it's not healthy for anyone involved. If marksmen need that much damage to not be considered weak, that is also a problem, and shows that we're either setting ourselves a different standard for power with marksmen than we are with other classes, or that the marksman class has serious flaws that have currently been papered over with excessive damage output and reliability.
Build HP but her W deals max HP damage Build armor but her W deals true damage Be squishy but her Q crits and murders you
How 2 win pls
The idea behind her max health true damage is that you're supposed to play, not build against it. That much is fine, but the larger issue is that she doesn't really have the counterplay to justify that advantage right now. Part of the intent behind her W is that she's meant to kill enemies through sustained DPS, but as you and OP mentioned, she's capable of killing squishier enemies in a single three-hit sequence. The other intent is that she's supposed to be putting herself at constant risk in combat, since she has no long-ranged abilities, but she has enough mobility, plus stealth during her ult, to dodge a lot of stuff and kite melee opponents, and chase them to the point where it's often too difficult to escape her.
In the end, she can be shut down, since she's pretty weak in lane (versus other marksmen, anyway), and she doesn't actually do that well in teamfights unless she has a ton of protection and/or the enemy team is too disorganized to focus her, but power curves aren't really moment-to-moment counterplay, and "team focus" can be cited as counterplay for literally any champion. It's okay for her to be a good duelist, but she of all marksmen should not be allowed to deal an assassin rotation's worth of damage in three hits or less.
Probably among the top few well reasoned posts I've seen here. Summed up OP's point any anything else relevant pretty nicely. Well done.

Wat.
Any champion who gets full items can 3 hit a squishy. ADC, Mage or likewise they can blow up in 1-2-3 shots some times with a FULL build.
The way you counter it is NOT LET THE GAME GO TO FULL BUILD TIME. You should be finishing the game before it gets to 35 min mark, or focus the ADC in teamfights.
People act like ADC is the most powerful role in the game. No. It is the most vital role mainly due to their ability to pop a tower quickly and without being directly on the tower when doing so mitigating the risk of being locked down in a fight under tower.
So all you need to do is focus that ADC in a fight or have ONE assassin focus it in a fight and you win. If i remember correctly the max hp and armor a ADC will have with GA will be around 90 or more with runes. And max HP will be around 2K-2.4k. The average Assassin burst at 18 with items is well over that amount of mitigation and health. So all you need to do is use that burst which at some times is in a span of 3 seconds (some times quicker than most peoples reaction time to flash) and nuke the ADC before he/she can offload their DPS in a fight.
I have been playing a ton of ADC on this account since season 6 launch. I use to think ADC was the most OP class too, thinking they were too strong and easy to apply their damage. But what i learned is if you just gank them once or twice in lane phase it can put SUCH a huge gap between them and your team it takes them close to 8-10 minutes to catch up to their normalized state for post lane phase.
YET MID AND JUNGLE Still don't jump on ADC before team fight phase... it really bugs me how oblivious mid lane is to applying pressure on alternate lanes. "I SHOULD BE JUST FARMING MID" ... NO you should be applying your huge pressure across the map and ganking. Certainly if you are Zed, Leblanc, Akali, Vel, Annie, Ahri, Orri, Liss... to name a few. EVEN A FAILED GANK (meaning no kill or loss on your side) can screw over the enemy adc, they lose out on CS and have to back losing EXP and more CS.
Marksmen already have a ton of reliability through the safety of their range and their undodgeable autoattacks, and if they also get to have burst per second, it's not healthy for anyone involved.
What?
Sure they are somewhat undodge-able but they have to be in the right position. No other class has so much positioning they need to do constantly to maintain DPS or survive-ability. Even burst ADC take insane skill to output max damage. Take Lucian for instance, he is the easiest of burst ADC to use and master. But even he can screw up his burst by activating a skill too early, as his damage for his burst comes from utilizing his auto attack. The reason people use the ArP build for him is due to this fact, it lets him rely more on his abilities over his AA.
Ez is another burst that takes high skill to use at a high level. Refreshing autos with his abilitys and just overall trying to land the abilities can be a chore and while doing all this you will most likely be out of position. I have struggled to master this champ and i doubt i ever will be at the levels i have seen pro's at, i would need years of practise. But even Ez has his weaknesses.
The only thing not healthy about the ADC class is its NEED for peel, its NEED for hard CC, its NEED for total protection. The only time i ever see ADC dominate on a level people like you think they dominate on is if they are playing a PROTECT THE ADC team build, or the enemy of that ADC are so special in the head it isn't funny.
If you don't believe me watch some twitch streams from ADC mains. Just observe how easy it is to tilt them or just mess up their game. How the support role is VITAL to winning the lane EVERY TIME.
The way you counter it is NOT LET THE GAME GO TO FULL BUILD TIME. You should be finishing the game before it gets to 35 min mark, or focus the ADC in teamfights.
I mention both of these arguments. As said before, power curves do not represent moment-to-moment counterplay, and "focusing X in teamfights" is counterplay that can be applied to literally anyone, no matter what counterplay they actually have. It's alright for champions to be particularly strong at a certain stage of the game, but not to the point where they offer no outplay options.
So all you need to do is focus that ADC in a fight or have ONE assassin focus it in a fight and you win.
You are defining the win condition of a fight as killing the enemy marksman. That in itself is an indicator that the game might revolve a little too much around marksmen.
Sure they are somewhat undodge-able but they have to be in the right position. No other class has so much positioning they need to do constantly to maintain DPS or survive-ability.
Every class needs to be "in the right position". In fact, arguably the majority of champions have to worry more about positioning than marksmen, because whereas marksmen have the safety of range, most melee champions have to deal with incoming attacks and abilities the moment they are being launched at point-blank range. Assassins are even getting a new item specifically designed to let them avoid getting chunked from random incoming fire once they position themselves in the middle of the enemy team. The only factor that would make marksmen more reliant on positioning is that everyone on the enemy team tries to focus them... which then again begs the question as to why they would go out of their way just to kill a member of one particular class as fast as possible.
The only thing not healthy about the ADC class is its NEED for peel, its NEED for hard CC, its NEED for total protection.
So... you want marksmen to have more self-sufficiency on top of the top-tier damage they have now? Don't you think that would be a little overkill?
I mean, in other circumstances, it would probably be a very good idea to give some marksmen more tools to survive attacks, but not when they can output the damage they possess right now. It's also worth noting that several marksmen absolutely do not need any more self-peel. Kindred and Kalista are both excellent examples of marksmen who had all of the self-peel they could ask for, and the end result is that they had (and still have, in Kalista's case), very little counterplay in matchups versus melee champions, and in some cases gave those champions literally no opportunity to fight back. Again, many other champions have damage that is a) weaker, b) less reliable and c) not accompanied by any major form of safety, as is the case for most mages or assassins, classes also meant to specialize in damage, yet the only time they're criticized for their lack of self-sufficiency is when compared with marksmen, who typically already fare much better.
No worries, one can just pink war-...oh wait.
Oh dear...
frustrates me to no end, I have seen the champion solo carry so many games even when she gets behind early. I ban her as much as I can because I just cannot stand dying within 2 seconds of her appearing on my screen. I played a normal as
yesterday actually and the enemy Vayne was killing me with 1 auto. My team still won but it is not fun to suddenly see a Vayne pop out of invisibilty right next to you and 1-shot you with no counterplay......... >:(
I feel you.
Riot loves pandering to the whiniest and most toxic players this community has to offer.
Now that assassins are gutted, enjoy having ADC's mowing down your team since there won't be anybody on your team able to get close enough to shutting them down..
What happened to balance Riot? why so much favoritism?
I seem to have missed a circle jerk somewhere.
When did Vayne go back to being a problem. Or ADC's start being burst assassins? Because I certainly don't notice any of those things outside of forumite's imaginations.
