Shouldn't Riot be trying to discourage people playing the game?

In an ideal scenario, people would make accounts, buy RP, and then not play any matches. Matches mean more stress on the server, which costs money. To increase profit, Riot should try finding ways to get people to play less, since Riot doesn't make money when you're in-game.

I do not think you know how this works.

What.

Riot profits from people playing the game. Making people not play the game means they dont make money.

Oh, wait.. this is a troll post. The bar is so low..

Riot primarily profits off cosmetic purchases and competitive play.

a) Who's going to buy cosmetic stuff in a game they won't play? b) How are they going to profit off competitive play on a game that isn't played?

Both of their main sources of revenue relies on a large and dedicated player base, and benefits off any increase to either the size and/or dedication of players.

when people stop playing the game, they stop caring. They move on

It is very one-side focused logic. Just take a look at long-term business and marketing (promotion) side.
