League Ads are false advertisement

As a collegiate league player, the ads riot puts out are not a good representation of league. I think they are trying to oversell and overhype. League is only a team game at the pro level(College, LCS).

I think before anyone plays league they need to know that it requires time to become proficient at a basic level and a lot more time to even get good.

The community is toxic and nothing will change that. Games will be trolled, inted, afk, rq everything and in between. You will find yourself playing well but losing games. Players that feel they are more important will choose whatever champion they want regardless of meta or role. Your cries for help from reports to boards fall on deaf ears. Riot buffs champions to sell skins instead of striving for balance. The matchmaking is a joke, the game feels like a coin flip till diamond 4 and only 1% of players make it to fair matches. Smurfs will always be a problem no matter how many times anyone says anything about them.

Even after 4 years of playing this game, it has done nothing but got worse instead of getting better. Every patch is a step in a new but wrong direction and they never take a step back. Besides the ranked revert as everyone knew that was awful from the beginning. The stats prove what is busted and what isn't but somehow the hidden deep data that riot has trumps what's in front of their eyes. Damage has been atrociously high since runes reworked and they just left it. Games are faster than they have ever been.

The balance team is not made of entirely high elo players.

Skill is at an all-time low when it takes two keys to kill people these days. Fights are over in a second instead of carefully fought team fights. CC and damage win games.

Even pro play still is boring as a couple of skirmishes and one team fight decide everything.

The death Recap is useless as it doesn't even show all the damage you took and every source that dealt it.

How Do You Meta3/26/2019, 10:18:17 PM40 votes

When I say I play League of Legends, people look at me confused and say "what's that? I never heard of that game." I have yet to see someone say "oh you play league!? Let's play together and become best friends!" They kinda grumble and say "add me in game" and then I rarely see them play or they rage too much when I do play with them. Also let's not forget that the grind to level 30 is terrible and full of recently banned smurfs and bots with long queue times. This game is not noob friendly.

Some of Riot's champion spotlight videos are false advertising, as it shows information from features that have been removed(Aatrox E healing from minions/monsters, Irelia passive bonus damage to shields, Akali stealth in turrets etc)

wonder what would happen if riot made an ad that was true, even 50% true?

Kenneky3/27/2019, 8:03:59 AM5 votes

Imagine if they advertised the game as what is it - toxic, frustrating at times, enjoyable at other, no one would want to start playing a game advertised like that. I could say the same about Overwatch, those cinematic trailers are advertising OW as a single player story game, but in reality the game is multiplayer PvP game. False advertising exist everywhere, not only in gaming.

I started playing league with friends, thinking it would be fun to collaborate in team strategies. I went into support and utilities... And I discovered the only way you climb is by rolling your head on the keyboard with a noob champ and get banned because you insult an inter. This game really made me hate people and the tech industry.

I'm not going to lie, that's impressive, being Gold 2 and playing on a collegiate team. Well done!

League is only a team game at the pro level(College, LCS).

Nothing stops you from playing Flex with other 4 friends, I sometimes do it, and even when we play Flex as a 3 premade it already feels as a full comp game.

And no, we are far from being high elo.

DrippyBrownHole3/27/2019, 4:33:37 AM3 votes

Here's the thing, if you do premades with 4 people like the game was truly designed for, the experience is generally better since you're working as a team. But, they also made it so you can join random people alone because most people who play games don't have close friends or social skills...

Flawless Fetus3/27/2019, 2:02:12 AM3 votes

Lol. They reason you dominate and lose is because it's a team game at all levels. Even in bronze solo queue it is a team game.

I think they are trying to oversell and overhype.

no really? it's almost as if that's the point of a goddamn advertisement.

and honestly when you consider people playing what they wanna play instead of what the meta dictates toxic you ain't deserving of anything better anyway. Pretty hypocrite when your most played champ is anivia too.

I stopped reading when u said above d4 isnt coinflip anymore, u got no fcking idea lmao, its even worse than in low elo cause being 4v5 its much harder against people that are decent at the game

Whenever my friends show interest in this game, I actively advise them against it.

DEDManWonderLand3/27/2019, 3:24:59 PM2 votes

I find it funny how my friends pretty much introduced me to this game and i fell in love with it instantly. This was season 6 by season 8 i've had enough. I used to be like "oh you play league? Wow me too lets add each other" and now im like "you play league? How? That game is so bad"

I literally gave up on this game because it wasnt fun anymore all my fav champs stopped being viable and the ones that are meta are just lame cuz they hard stomp everyone. I remember in season 6 everyone complained about teemo in the boards. I literally haven't seen a single teemo post since runes reforged let alone anyone who plays him. This game is a joke, how can you take something so amazing and do this to it.

The state of the game is bad and people keep leaving i dont see how riot can look at this game and be satisfied. What really killed this game for me was when i stopped playing summoners cuz i was tired of being snowballed to death by an outrageous comp. I go to ARAM and somehow the BS problems from summs end up there too. 6 minute ARAM match LITERALLY THEY WERE AT OUR NEXUS AT 6 MINUTES i cant make this shit up. Just the morale of my team being hard stomped made me uninstall. No one even cared or was surprised.

everytime i "quit" league and play csgo and stuff in the steam web browser i will get a ton of league ads like they cookie up my pc and then see i am not playing it and spam ads at me to play again

Too much has changed in the game since the early seasons. Kits are now regularly overloaded and certain champions like Talon are kept meta for literally no reason even after having multiple seasons of dominance. Runes have significantly changed laning and imo are still completely imbalanced across champ classes. Jungling has been utterly shat on multiple times in the last few seasons and now practically requires you to be Gold+ to even farm successfully (scuttles broke this game). It's just so damn obvious what the motive is when you see these top tier champs getting back to back skins while they're sitting on ridiculous winrates and sport no counterplay.

I think OP's #1 point is that league is truly not a team game. It never has been, but that used to be okay. There used to be much less chance of one champion getting super-fed and 1v5ing. Now, it's almost regular. I won't lie, I'm a top bruiser main and even though we have exceptions like Yorick last season, our class is underpriveleged vs the likes of adcs and mages who both simultaneously counter our play style. Adcs got an entire item revert when legit only a few members of the class dropped below 50% winrates. Go check the stats, Ez/lucy/kai/mf all stayed completely relevant during the non-crit period, lucian had one of the highest playrates in the game during last season. Now, after all those target buffs to the entire class, they got their old op crit builds back and some are stronger than ever while being one of the safest classes on the rift. Not only do they have an entire role designed to peel them, ward for them, and setup kills; most adcs do have a form of mobility while being designed largely around kite play. In addition to this, they have options like fleet footwork for some serious sustain and pta/conq/lethaltempo/hailoblades as damage options. Mages are even broader and have much wider rune choices, build paths, and playstyles.

Bruisers? Ok so its grasp or conq... and grasp is legit a joke and taken on almost no one as it provides minimal damage. Conq is barely relevant after its meh rework into double nerfs and only ideal on a handful of champions who can abuse it.

The worst part is, riot has always buffed adcs and mages up since everyone wants to be the damage carry. They always strive to keep these 2 positional playrates the highest and they always sell the most skins for these 2 positions. Rarely is it considered how mcuh it shafts the rest of the roster. But hey, as soon as Jax is even remotely op the adc mains will surely hit the boards.

On my phone,, despite seeing ads all the time and watching League related stuff, they never even think about giving me a League ad. So idk what they're like, lol.

Rustypug3/27/2019, 2:34:30 PM1 votes

league ads have the same quality as those "play fortnite free" ads that you see on every website

TwitchInMyPants3/27/2019, 3:03:18 AM1 votes

The advertising isn't false as it is a game thats designed around team play and its clearly balanced with 5v5 pro play in mind. Just because the solo q experience is dogshit and the game is difficult doesn't mean you can't find your own strategies and pick up friends to play with.

I'm very critical of the current gamestate and all its damage and snowballing but make a more compelling argument than "people are toxic", even in DotA Auto Chess where its a silly casual community playing an RNG game people are still shit talking. Overwatch when it was huge was far worse than League and plenty of unmoderated CS:GO severs and shit exist. League might be pushing up there but I can think of more toxic communities and tons of similarly toxic ones. People get salty over all competitive games.

League is an ok game. It has good patches, bad patches. The champions are good. Gamestate is currently in the gutter IMO compared to older patches but I can still have fun with the game occasionally with or without friends. I think your energy is better spent pointing out game problems rather than "people are toxic".

Eleshakai3/27/2019, 5:30:25 PM1 votes

Experience is subjective. The experience you have may not match the ads, but that doesn't mean that experience doesn't exist.

yeah but if it only takes 2 keys to kill someone then you use more skill to avoid that what are u talking about
