Season 9 ranked so far is not healthy.

I cant say I've enjoyed but a couple games of ranked this season. The tower plating has put to much gold into the early game along with the bounty system. Now more than ever I feel that games are more decided in champion select than they are by gameplay. Quality of matches are very low as well. Maybe it is just my games but I think that patch 9.3 is just the tip of the iceberg for a bad ranked season of league.

I have given a lot of thoughts on positional rankings as well. They only seem to make matchmaking worse. I don't ever feel that I am playing with team mates that are competent on the roles. It now makes people in secondary roles play with less intensity than if they had there main. While I like the idea of having a rank for each role. It now makes games less competitive do to the fact that an individual ranking instead of an overall doesn't hold a player responsible for how they play.

Lane matchups are not decided by skill of players its decided by how much damage a champion does. Sure they are still outplays to be made but only if your champion has the kit for it. (or if your champ was made by certainlyT you can outplay) cough

If your team is behind in the first fifteen minutes. your behind for probably the rest of the game do to the fact that there is more gold available in the early game than ever before in league thanks to plating and bounties. It is now near impossible to stall a game even with wave clear champs do to the fact that towers are very weak.

Now more than ever is the pace of league becoming to fast. While league has been becoming a faster paced game for years now. It is now so noticeable that the original style league is non existent. The tower plating was put into to elongate laning phase but has actually proven to only speed up the game. Laning phase in theory is to last till 14 minutes till towers plating fades but laning phase feels as if it only last ten minutes before the early game skirmishing starts. With the minion speed change as well, its clear to see that the pacing of game is made to be fast.

While decisive victories by good players with a few mistakes should be a fast game. On the other hand three deaths in the first 10 on your team shouldn't spell a loss.

I miss when nobody surrendered at 20 minutes and there was room for macro play.

I cannot STAND the shutdown system. I played a game last night with my friend going something like 15/2 on Kha'Zix. Both times he died to a nigh unkillable Vayne who even though only had decent KDA at the time, she had a Soraka Lulu stacked on top of her. Both times she killed him, she got 1000g off his bounty (he went from like 15/0 to 15/2, retaining his bounty after death), and bought almost an entire item. It just felt like his lead was turned to her lead. Great mechanic.

I don't think you can go from 15-0 to 15-2 and pick up back to back bounties off a champion... Regardless, I get your point.

I love it. Nothing I like more than a good comeback. Now we can go on and on about how it's unfair for the other side, but if you're ahead you should have a huge advantage, especially as an assassin like Khazis, to close the game as fast as you can. One slip up from the dominant force position and it's punishable by the opponent, that sounds fair to me.

When the game quality is good, players are serious and games are more competitive. Because the game itself seems meaningful.

When the game quality is poor, players are casual and games aren't taken seriously. Because the game itself seems worthless.

People play farming champions that have to CS under tower while being harassed and get told tower platings are healthy as they watch the enemy laner get a free 160+ gold just for being there.

People getting stressed out just because they play the game well and end up with a bounty. And then the stress is compounded by the fact that even though they're ahead, they can be blown up because damage is so high due to more sources of damage (Instead of items and runes affecting Kits, its now individual damage provided by Kits, Items, and Runes on top of items and runes affecting Kits for additional damage).

I mean if its play hard/well to lose it all, then why bother?

And these are just a couple examples before I head off to work :/

Quality of matches is worse than I've ever seen. Landslide one way or the other every game, not stimulating at all. This is what took 6 months of preseason to perfect? Tragic really. Glhf.

i feel this so much right now. my games are either like 20 something minutes or 40+ something

I chin in to disagree.

Turret plating was actually the best thing we could hope for, and it has upped the quality of our games quite noticeably.

Let's be very honest from the start: Riot wants to speed up the game. Be it Tencent, be it Korean cafe culture, be it the need to appeal to casuals/younglings, that is their corporate decision and they will never back down to it. They are slowly but deliberately doing it since 3 years. Systemic changes all lead to this very goal.

To a certain degree, if this is the future they envision for the game, it is legit for them to pursue it. We might not like it, but that's fine. We can leave and cherish the good memories on lol, and move on. It is their game after all.

The issue with speeding up the game is not the idea of speeding up the game, it is how incompetently it has been implemented. I believe that the best talents at Riot were moved to legends of runeterra development a long time ago. The clueless were left behind in charge of lol with the order to make the game faster, year by year... And the brightest way they came up with was to:

  • remove "tanking" as a concept
  • increasing damage
  • tenfolding snowball The quality of the game plummeted so fucking hard in S6, S7, and S8 it's unreal. Games were decided solely by early advantages, macro play was non-existent, damage was the only thing that mattered and game were never won, but only lost by the worst player on either team.

They sped up the game by increasing every means of winning the game: turrets became paper, Baron became immense, lane phase shortened, midgame expanded, lategame disappeared, killing was frequent and rewarding. The game was utter shit, because it was standard league of legends, but with unbalanced and artificially bloated aspects.

They're not going back. Never. But they have finally started band-aid fixing the problems arose with those years of forced acceleration. Turret plating extends lane, albeit artificially, albeit adding even extra snowball if taken down. But snowball itself is mitigated by high bounties, allowing a comeback, albeit, again, artificially. The game is still getting faster, but now there are new mechanics that account for it, and the game is far more fair and interesting.

I like everything you said except "Turret plating was actually the best thing we could hope for, and it has upped the quality of our games quite noticeably." It has downgraded games imo as the early game gold from platings inflates early leads instead of cs leads and skillfull play.

I am thinking of taking a break from Ranked now due to the new system overhaul, they should have tested this in the preseason and then ruled if they should keep it in or not before S9 started. I started playing this game in Season 2, I have taken breaks here and there and stopped playing for almost a year and I came back before the season 8 ended. I have not felt more disconnect from ranked and these games like I do now. There is not much control some games, trying your best seems like an understatement.

Each loss is a slap in the face from Riot as you lose more LP than you gain, making it monumental for a win that you got with the skin of your teeth. Winning is a great feeling, losing sucks, losing when you have no control is worse.

No season has been healthy. We hear the same BS every season because whiny players whine about anything and everything and can't adapt. If you don't like it then go play something else. IT"S THAT SIMPLE.

Well i play this game collegiately so I do adapt and play what the meta dictates so dont tell me i can just quit when my scholarship is riding on me playing. The game is becoming more and more of a moblie moba instead of an actual rts by todays standards.

We hear it at the beginning of the season because Riot drastically changes the game every year. It got so bad last year that people just quit playing (hence their steep decline in revenue). Riot just doesn't get the fact that people do not like drastic change.. we don't like being the f'ing testers for 6 months of ranked just to get to a nice playable spot just in time for world finals.

Basically, this game is great to play in the fall. Then Riot changes everything and puts everybody through a living hell during the winter and spring.. and only until the summer do things start making sense. Right now is the worst time to play league.

They need to implement a system that gives passive gold income increases to losing teams to lessen the snowball.

It's also a problem that any melee match up that goes sideways immediately means that lane is over unless a jungler camps it back to life.

I'm sick of games revolving around winning bot lanes and junglers. If you get incompetence in either of those, the game is pretty much over for you now matter how well you do in top or mid lane.

When games are ending in the 1st 10 minutes, then I would say this game has slide way downhill since somewhere around season 3ish. But really the last 2 seasons have been so unfun because of the snowballing that I think a lot of people are about done with it. Take a lesson from the failure of Starcraft II, chasing after esports ruins a game. Starcraft II balanced the game around high competitive esports play and League of Legends is trying to balance it around make the game fun to watch. Well it may be fun to watch but it's not too fun to play right now.

In fact, people troll more often when they get the sub-roles now, I just got a mid sona that take kills and did nothing all game because she got placed mid instead of her main adc role.
