How do you top laners deal with such one sided matchups in top?

This is the only lane where i feel like champion pick matters more than the rest.

I primarily play mid but moved to top to finish out a clash team and in my practices it almost feels like a death sentence first picking top lane before the opponent. Its also feels like the lane with the most cheese champs to play against. I honestly feel like most of the time its a losing lane if they picked something into your champ thats better.

Two big champs that are good right now darius and mordekaiser while I think morde is easier to play around Darius seems like such a power house.

My least favorite to play against are tryndamere and garen. Tryndamere enganges at full rage level 1 and proceeds to get a crit every time it feels like. Garen just silences and shreds with e then if he takes a bad engage just heals up and plays safe.

I am not good at top ill be the first to say it but what do the rest of you think about the matchups.

I faced karma last game and it felt like building mr was useless cause she rushed iceborne gauntlet.

It IS the only lane where first picking top is a death sentence. That's why you play casters with mobility/cc to gain a massive advantage early on. It's disgusting but if you're fp that's usually what you have to do. Top lane sucks in that aspect

Sometimes if you lose top lane, your only option is to miss out on farm and stay under tower. Leaving lane at 50 less farm than a Darius isn't so bad compared to him getting 6 kills in lane.

Die as little as possible and hope bot wins

I'm not joking

You don't know true suffering til you get to the rank where everyone plays ranged top laners

We've had to deal with it for years. We've all just grown to accept that sometimes we're just fucked and it's not really our fault.

The consistently fucked meta of having counterpicks like Viktor, Karma, Vayne, Teemo, Kennen has conditioned us for it.

Not only that, but sometimes you just had to face previously completely fucked melee matchups. Like if you picked something that could be hard countered by any of Renekton/Darius/Riven/Irelia/Akali and they picked it, you just had to sit back and accept that you aren't laning this game.

This preseason though, one-sided matchups aren't all too common as long as you aren't picking from the bottom of the barrel.

  1. Learn to farm Krugs
  2. Sit around and wait, discourage Tower taking, and try not to engage in any poke while conserving whatever gold you can.

Once lane is purely lost, roam. Keep coming back to lane, but roam and attempt to get back into game helping others.

  1. BE the lopsided advantaged matchup. I have friends who are traditionally Silver tier adcs who have transitioned to top lane, simply because they're good at Darius or Garen, etc, and can really punish top early and hard. This removes the other team's drake taking agency because a strong top is both a focus of a jungler and or of their team in general to control. If you are a runaway Top laner with Teleport, whose causing messages to pop up over and over of "teammate was slain" the last thing the other team is thinking about is drakes. And if they do drake, you teleport and ruin their day.

If you think Morde and Darius are bad in terms of being "unbeatable powerhouses", you're in for a treat when/if you get to a point, where people are able to play ranged champions with few fuckups - borderline unwinnable, and extremely unfun to play against... Better pray for jungle ganks.

Darius you beat by actually playing him, learning his weaknesses - he's a champion I never mind facing. If you're able to make short trades and escape or just poke well before all inning, you win. If you sludge it out and eat all his shit, you lose on just about anyone. :P On a sidenote, Darius worst enemy is a jungler who knows Darius can't do shit 1v2, if one of you have a reliable CC, or even just decent burst/dmg.

Morde is weak early, but scales fairly quickly like a motherfucker, so if you want to kill him, do it early - From the top of my head, Olaf, Fiora (and to some extent Kayle) are good picks vs Morde. Olaf/Fiora can really just run him down untill we get close to late midgame, and Kayle scales decently well, and has the tools to duel him at all points of the game after level 6 - it's all about the Kayle players skill here, really.

I can't think of a single juggernaut I would ever wanna first pick.

Edit. I retract my statement.Urgot

You don't. Pick something that can generally function in any MU, play it as well as you can and do your best. Take the right defensive shard in lane; it helps.

Or you can just pick FOTM OP Mordekaiser

I m picking champs that aren't obvious top picks.

xHeimtechZX12/17/2019, 4:15:26 AM2 votes

If I'm first pick, only thing to do is pick a safe champion. Darius might be really good in lane, but he can be bad to first pick due to enemy team comp. If I see a ton of cc and range, then its going to be a pretty rough game. I only first pick him if I am feeling like a Darius game, otherwise I don't lol. If the lane is rough, yeah...only thing to do is farm under turret and hope that your jungler does well with objectives. You can try gank other lanes or farm jungle camps as an option. Just kinda depends on your champion.

The only way to cope with one sided match ups as a top laner when you start getting solo killed by a hard counter is to scream in all chat: "gg jg difference."

Top lane is a lane about outsmarting your opponent, this is the THE lane where being smart about your wave management, vision control, trades etc... are the most important, you dont have a jungler to help you, you dont have a support to shield/heal you or help push/freeze the wave. Sometimes toplane isnt about getting fed and get a lot of kills but its more about getting small advantages through really small gaps that build up into a huge lead, every lane is "winnable" as long as you are able to UNDERSTAND what you are trying to get. For example I onetrick Riven my win condition against Renekton is NOT to die early since i will eventually out scale him, but giving him that single kill can completely shut down the lane for me, so you play around that, you concede some CS, you wait for trade windows where you will have advantage, maybe he used Q to clear the wave. you bait his W, maybe i will freeze the wave forcing him to be scared for my jgl etc... as long as i dont play into his condition(getting kills early) i have won the lane, even if im 10/20cs behind. LMK if you need some help with learning top, i can help you practice/recommend some videos for you to check out.

Guess I will start moving my mid lane mains like ahri and neeko top if ranged top is basically free win.

I play Soraka top. You can’t counterpick if you don’t know who the top laner is. [sg-ezreal]
