I doubt it won't be popular.
Think about how many League players probably go to DoTA oto play AChess.
Now think about if they didn't have to. There are a ton of people who run off convenience and even more that have never even heard of this before.

I'd say it'll last no more than 6 months.
Between bots and China, I doubt it will appeal enough to the rest of the player base.
i can only assume that it will end like dominion and nexus blitz and rotating gamemodes. with riot basically saying "we're too lazy to keep this shit up2date so fuck you all its gone now"
league autochess will just kill league like how dota autochess killed dota.
It'll stay for multiple reasons.
- Once finished, they'll probably have a team of 1 dude running it, so it costs nothing.
- They already said that competitive will be <5 players (because it lowers tournament overhead and increases profits).
- It won't take away from their profits from the main player base as it's a different game.
In short: Profit driven model designed for minimal overhead. It's here to stay, guaranteed.
Only REAL gamers play actual chess vs Indian/Russian guys on chess.com.
Next big gacha game l0l. Looks absolute garbage. I play league so I can play a fkn moba. Before they think about making a new shit mode that's going to be cancelled like blitz they should just use their resources to fix this dogshit client
My guess is it'll be here for 6 weeks/3 patches; just enough for it to get an actual following and generate some fond feelings, and then it'll be canned.
You know it'll be time when Boards posts with titles like 'I'm actually really enjoying TFT now that I've played it a bit!' start appearing...

- Attracts an entirely different group of players.
- Easy to make addons for (140+ champs to pull from.)
- Unique revenue that can't be gained from normal League except MAYBE aram.
- Low effort to play but with good strategy.
I assume this "Auto chess" game mode will be around for 3 weeks, during which Riot will try to addict us to it by adding special missions tied to the mode, with each mission promising glittering prizes, including tokens, summoner icons, ward skins, borders, and yet another "Prestigeous skin". It's just how events work.
After the event is over and people have nothing left to grind, Riot will put the game mode on the shelf next to Dominion, Invasion, Overdrive and Extraction, never to be touched again. Riot is becoming predictable. Abd at this point, working as a new game mode designer for them seems like an ungrateful job, considering the fact that a team's hard work can just be hidden away after 3 weeks of life.

I'm guessing it'll have two betas, then it'll die with the avatars becoming vaporware pets.
(Why would they ever make an Auto Chess when they could make a Legion/Squadron TD instead?)

depending on how engaging it is i might try it out. still need to see some gameplay
they'll probably get our hopes up by constantly improving it over the course of a few months and then just cut it
